Best way to send a file?

Post by Sinzar »

Maybe someone could help me out :D

I need to know the best way to send files to a friend. For most people I just use the ICQ file transfer thing to trade files, but for whatever reason I simply can't get our computers to send/receive files over ICQ. I don't want to buy an FTP program, nor do I want to risk using a cracked one. Email is about the only thing that I know of.

What I want to know is if there is any way to just direct connect our computers over the internet for trading files, kind of like Hyperterminal? (but for DSL)

Thanks!

edit: btw, I have Windows XP Home

WS_FTP has a free edition of their software.

Use DCC in IRC, or just d/l a free ftp daemon and set it up and load it only when you want to transfer with your friend.

How big is the file?

You might try DC++ and both get on the same server. That would work unless you were both in passive mode.

You could also post the file to a newsgroup using powerpost and tell your pal which binary newsgroup you posted it to and the name of the file.

It really depends on the size of the file and the content (nude pics of yourself require a little more security!)

rofl Winnow! It's more like MP3's and amusing video clips we find and want to send to each other, not porn!

I'm going to look into the free FTP programs that were mentioned, thanks for the help !
