In honor of Memorial Day

Post by Midnyte_Ragebringer »

I know it was last week, but I just got this in an email from a military friend of mine. I love it.
It is the VETERAN, not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the VETERAN, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the VETERAN, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the VETERAN, not the politician,
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the VETERAN,
who salutes the Flag,

Yea, btw, Memorial Day isn't about Veterans, moron. It's for those who died in service. You have to survive the war to be a Veteran.

Aside from that, it's a crock of shit. Veterans/KIAs are not solely responsible for the freedoms we enjoy.

And, no, I'm not detracting from their contribution.
War pickles men in a brine of disgust and dread.

Like I said I just received the email. I thought it appropriate being Memorial Day had just passed. They both recognize their contributions. I fully understand their distinct differences, but they also share many similarities. It's get's the point across.

That doesn't make a bit of sense. Not one fucking bit. Since when has a preacher been for freedom of religion? Isn't that like, sacreligous or something?

We still don't have freedom of press...

Howard Stern can attest to having free speech.

The only reason we have freedom to assemble is the ACLU, but that is another multi-derailed thread.

If the lawyer had his/her way, the trial would not be fair. It would be lopsided so he/she could win.

Umm, actually it was the politicians who gave us the right to vote.

I don't even need to dignify that last statement as it reaks bullshit so strong you can smell it in Iraq.

It is the VETERAN, not the teacher, (or anyone else for that matter)
who taught me everything I know.

I think that is the part they cut off.
