WTF is up with Sopranos Season 5

Post by Dups. »

Is it just me or did they REALLY! lose the wow factor in this season. Things are not as unpredictable anymore. I never catch myself saying "oh yeeeaahh" out loud when a good scene comes around. Or "I never saw that coming" or "as if they did that".

The first few episodes I was giving it time to build. Most of the new seasons require a couple of episodes or so for story telling and building up to something great.

So far I have been very disappointed. Seems to be more mob politics and mouth running then action and violence. Nudity is still there but I do not care for that. Nudity is just a bonus :P

Anyhow, my wife and I both loved the Sopranos and could not wait to watch another episode. Now I am kinda just watching it in hopes that it somehow becomes like the previous seasons.

I realize that a show does become repetitive the longer it is on the air but sheeesh :!:

The latest "dream" episode sucked. There's only two episodes left and i'm hoping they don't try to squeeze the entire 5 year cast, dead or alive, into dream sequences over the next two episodes.

I've only seen season 5 episodes personally and have enjoyed them all (except for the last one). That episode was a definate alarm signalling that the show is about to take a serious dive soon. Hopefully they'll finish off the final two episodes with class and wrap up an excellent 5 year series.

I think Tony is going to die of a heart attack, maybe it will be a drive by coronary. I still liked this season, tho I do agree its not as exciting as previous seasons.

They've announced a 6th season, it will be a shorter season (10 episodes), filming starts in early 2005.

Ack! That may be pushing it unless this dream episode was a fluke.

Deadwood has been extended for 12 more episodes next season. Woo!

Woot, yay.
They need to do away with these crappy "cable" seasons, imo.
If network TV can do an episode a week with special fx and crap, then HBO can too. =\

Well, HBO doesn't advertise, and I have no idea what kind of money they bring in from subscriptions, but I can say that shows like the Sopranos and Deadwood have to cost more money to produce than your run-of-the-mill drama on one of the networks. Couple that with the fact that each episode has approximately 1/3 more content than an hour-long show that has commercials, and I disagree that there is anything "crappy" about a cable season.

I also disagree that the Sopranos hasn't been good this year. The dream sequence was definitely a departure from the norm, but it was interesting in a weird way. I think they just did it to show Tony's inner struggle with having to whack Buscemi, as well as reminding us of all the other people on the show who have been whacked as a means of justifying why Buscemi needs to get whacked. Just about everyone that Tony had any part in killing has deserved it.

I can live with 10-12 episodes of Sopranos and Deadwood. As mentioned its not like they have comercials so that right there is an extra couple of episodes per season. Add to that its the only night of TV I actually watch regularly so if it was a longer season I would probably opt to not watch as it would take up a bit to much life for me. I like rest breaks, gets me ramped up and rested for the next season

*spoiler* (wink sylvus)

The next two episodes of the Sopranos involve a mob war between NY and NJ (Sack vs Soprano) of which a few key people die in. The previews hint to this (then again, they always hint to something bad happening), but if you paid attention to the news you can probably take a good guess at who dies. :)

I thought the last episode was rather bizarre... there are also many loose ends to tie up in the final 2 episodes.. Even if the show careens to a tragic poorly-written end(which I doubt), I still think it has been one of the best series ever made.

It seems only one person on this thread is questioning this year's entire season although a few thought the last single episode may have been a little off.

Aye. Last Sunday's episode was pretty questionable. It could have been just as compelling if the dream was only 10 minutes and not 35. Seriously, all that was needed to advance the story was thfirst 10 and last 10 minutes.

I can't wait until this season is over though, be good to finally cancel hbo

Indeed that was a great episode, the best of the season so far. Johnny Ballsacks is such a prick now!

How they killed off <bleep!> was so very evil.

I was actually moved about that killing, it was shot effectively and really made to want to spit at him.

But never mind that shit, NJ and NY are going to WAR wuwu!
