OK, explain Slipknot to me.

My only exposure to the band was seeing them perform "wait and bleed" live on Conan. I noticed a number of fascinating occurences, including the fact that the dude in the clown suit (who is apparently some sort of drummer) spent the vast majority of his time running around and slapping the floor. I don't recall every member's actions, but it sure seemed like a lot of wasted manpower.

Of course, my amusement turned to shocked hilarity when I watched their obviously rehearsed, synchronized "dancing," which was really just jumping up and down in unison. Poor though it was, I was more impressed by their dancing than their musicianship. I keep a copy of this video on my computer and show it to my friends when we all need to laugh at something.

Now I'm not trying to bash you or your taste in music. I readily admit that I know next to nothing about the band, aside from the performance I just described. Is that all they do? If not, what do they do that's worthwhile? If so, what makes you enjoy it?

I've always like aggresive music... and once you actually see these guys live (IE a show). You might be a little more impressed. Try DL'ing some live shows (Conan is too staged). Im not into the costumes/dancing/image thing, I love their music. It's balls out and agressive.

Slipknot is mostly a gimmick metal band...and their gimmick is that they have like 8 people on stage.

Of course, this post will be followed by 5 slipknot fans telling me that slipknot is not a gimmick band.

The first slipknot album was pretty good, nice senseless fun, the second one was just dumb. Maybe a song or two was standable. So far I have only heard one song from the new one when they were on leno. It sounded better then iowa but it just seemed like they were desperatly trying to get an ok sounding line going.
