That is the thing.. I did a quick search on a couple of car sites for fun with a max range of 100 miles.. and it actually brought up a few possible hits. The good thing about living here in Ohio is that the people who still have those cars take REALLY good care of them due to weather etc. And since they are so close to me it wouldn't cost me much time to go have a look.

Woot now I actually got something to do this summer!

Reading this thread brought back all the love I have for the 300ZX and the RX7.. might just have to call up and drive out to take a look at the two I found in the area..
Red is the only way to go on a sports car, imo. :)

If you are interested in getting one, I'd check autotrader.com - they seem to have a good selection of Z's in this area at least.

hehe, that's Raistin's old car - doesn't run anymore. He sold it to someone who is going to use the body for a racecar I think - they are supposed to pick it up today I believe!

I only like old mustangs... the 60's models. New ones are suck.

Yeah I checked Autotrader, which was where I found one possible one.. I was thinking about it a few years ago but couldn't really pull it off then. Much better chance now!

And nah.. red is very situational for a car imho. Some cars can pull it off, others can not. Plus you get way too much attention from the local cops with a red car!

Well I picked her up yesterday and drove her home last night from NY.

Damn that car feels good....

There are quite a few Honda owners and one Cavalier owner between Buffalo, NY and Hampton, VA that are "reevaluating" the true potentials of their cars.

I'm just going to get flamed again but...
2004 Dodge SRT-4

Image
That picture is from Dodges site..mine is black.

Just installed a Stage 2 Turbo Upgrade from Mopar last weekend, that's my biggest mod so far. And yes I installed it myself, I'm trying to learn.

Current stats...a friend with the same mods ran the 1/4 at 13.6 on street tires and 12.7 on slicks. I haven't launched much so I don't think I could hit the same numbers, but that's what I should be capable of.

Oh and just to beat a couple people to the punch...yes it is just a neon.

To the original poster...I used to have a 1996 Sunfire with the 2.4l Twin Cam, 5 speed. It was not that bad of a car actually...had it 7.5 years...O2 sensor and battery failed that's it.

Oooo...a persion aspiring to buy a 1996 Nissan...aka japanese car...called my Dodge rice.

Man what should I ever do?

What makes it rice?

Usually rice refers to a combination of several things.
1. Stickers
2. Flashing lights
3. Fart cans
4. Japanese make
5. Still a slow car.

My car is Dodge, it had a sticker stating the % parts made in america, the figure was over 80% if I remember correctly, the bulk of the rest coming from Mexico, it is a turbo from Mitsubishi though. The car was assembled in Indiana.

My car has zero stickers and zero flashing lights.

My car is not slow. Name a stock 2003 or 2004 model year car under 30k that can beat my car's 1/4 mile time (13.7 stock w/good driver)....I can think of one...but not many. And my car cost substantially less than 30k...21k. You get around 32k and I see a few more entries...but damn I'd say the little Neon holds his ground well on a budget...power wise.

Before you say power is not everything....your absolutely right. But for every american muscle car you name, I can name 10 rice burners that can outhandle it. My car of course excluded. My handling is fine but the car was more focused on acceleration. Spec V and MazdaSpeed will outhandle my car.

Calling a car rice simply because it utilizes a higher level of technology than what your used to is simply...ignorant.

Take a 1996 Mustang Cobra vs my car....my car is faster, handles better...and way more practical (cheaper to build, 4-doors, better MPG, cheaper insurance). Sure some people will make fun of my car...but who cares? I don't. I'll breifly try to reason with them or educate them, everyone deserves a fair chance before you judge them as ignorant...but I don't care if they like my car. Why would I want to win the respect of someone like that?

Truth of the matter is I like my car. I like it a lot. And I'm not the only one....I get people at gas stations and parking lots giving me compliments and asking about the car on an almost daily basis. The only ones who have the nerve to disrespect the car remain hiding behind the curtain we call the internet.

Your in Ohio correct? Come to Edgewater Race Park on the 16th in the morning....bring your car...I'll hook you up with an SRT-4 to go against. Someone who has some track experience (I don't). I can't promise you will race against a stock SRT-4, but I can promise it will have less money spent in mods than my car.

It would be a wise idea to leave your attitude at home though, because if you act like you do here, I predict an ass beating. That's not a threat...it's just helpful advice. Beer and Testosterone will be in abundance...all they want is someone like you to give them a reason.

14.2 stock with a pro driver not 13.7 five tenths is a life time in the 1/4.
A lancer Evo does it in 13.4 for under 30k.

The fact you even consider a '96 stock 300ZX anything remotely close to rice shows how ignorant you are.
Usually rice refers to a combination of several things.
1. Stickers
2. Flashing lights
3. Fart cans
4. Japanese make
5. Still a slow car.
Uh no, in the area here a majority of the rice burners are now domestics. Granted, that might be because of the redneck town down the street, but still a truth. I know they originally were Asian cars, but times have changed a lot. You should try to keep up with it! We can call the SRT-4 a wanna-be rice burner instead if that makes you feel better. So that scratches out 4. Slow? Hardly a requirement for a rice burner, never was. So weeeh there goes 5.

Special exhaust? For sure, and the SRT-4 sounds the part perfectly. Have a few running around town here and I laugh every time I see it because I expect something else. Granted, you don't have the stickers on it, but you do live up to the general look (hugeass spoiler and general design).

As for 1/4-mile.. never cared for it. We have argued this before, red-light racing isn't racing. It's as stupid as the idiot in a truck who tried to mess with me on my bike, when I didn't even have to shift down to dust him. Your fantastic red-light skills don't impress me one bit.

And believe me, I have laughed at SRT-4s and ricers to their face, I'd have no problem doing it to you. And wtf.. comparing it to a Mustang? Why compare it to a rolling piece of junk like that? I've driven them and I wouldn't buy it if I got it thrown after me.
It would be a wise idea to leave your attitude at home though, because if you act like you do here, I predict an ass beating. That's not a threat...it's just helpful advice. Beer and Testosterone will be in abundance...all they want is someone like you to give them a reason.

You are incorrect regarding our 1/4 mile time. Trust me I have read a lot about this car and have talked to a good 30-50 people who have run 13.9 down to 13.7. And even one guy who ran a 13.6...all stock. Magazines aren't always right....and whatever magazine you got 14.2 from...well thier "professional driver" needs a new career. You can easily find many sources that state we are a 13.9 in the 1/4. I've never seen higher than a 14.1 and that was on the 2003 which was missing 15hp, 5 torque, and LSD.

The problem is a magazine might have a professional driver, but that doesn't mean that professional driver is good. Nor does it mean they practiced over and over until they mastered the launch on a specifc car to get the best time. Automatics are easy to master. AWD is easy to master. RWD is easier than FWD also. The more rubber you have the easier it is.

All cars generally do poorer in magazines. But a FWD turbo with 205 tires will do a few tenths off....SRT-4's are not easy to launch. Wheel hop, easy to burn out, and the driver probably doesn't know much about the "boost-hold" feature on the '04's. If you WOT shift on an '04 (or an 03 with stage 1 or better turbo upgrade) it will hold your boost pressure rather than dropping it down to 0 and having to build back up.

You were correct about the Evo though. When I looked at it last year it was 32k at the dealership (yes I looked at buying one)...but I just checked thie web site and it says 29k base now. You won't get an argument from me on the Evo being a better car....it is. It's 8k more too...but if you have the money it's worth it.

If the Evo had been 29k when I looked, and if I had known my Chrysler family discount didn't apply to the SRT-4 (or Crossfire/Viper/Sprinter) nor did the neon sales promotion for 3k cash back or 2% financing. I would have looked much harder at it. But initially the cars were quoted to me with appropriate discounts and financing of Evo 32k @ 7% VS SRT-4 18k @ 2%...Still 21k @ 4.9% was still a good deal and I don't regret it.

I don't consider it rice. I just think if my car is rice then we would have to examine your choice of cars as well.

It's like if you were to call me a loser, I'd laugh my ass off. Because I have a good idea of the type of person you are and I know you have no right to throw stones.
Kelshara wrote:Yeah you and your redneck friends are so tough!
I said I wasn't going to likely be the one to do it. I also doubt my friends would do it. But when your as big of a asshole as you are....I can not guarantee your safety.

However I did pass the invite....feel free to show up and see the SRT-4 in person. Do not expect me to be buddy buddy with you though. I will likely ackowledge your existance, find someone for you to race and show us how much better your car is than mine since you talk so much crap...and then I will ignore you for the remainder of the day.

Or don't show up but it will say something about your personality and your posts.

P.S. A bike and a car are not meant to be raced vs eachother. They are completely different vehicle types. Might as well compare jet skis to boats. Or planes to helicopters.

And sad to say, I'll be out of town visitting some Norwegian friends celebrating May 17th (our national holiday.. aka your 4th of july), and I have no doubt I would be beat. I've never drag raced, it shows extremely little about the driver.

Btw reading comprehension is a nice skill, I called it stupid when the truck tried to race my bike. I just called red-light racing that you whack off to just as lame.

'98 4-door civic ex. Good crash test results, good gas mileage, excellent reliability(only untimely item was the exhaust system which is the only item in consumer reports ratings that didn't get a very good or higher), good resale value, comfortable enough to sit in Jersey traffic, fast enough to merge, and spoilerless. Next car may be the civic hybrid in another 2 years, all depends on how the accord hybrid turns out.

Hahahahaha, what the fuck? Kelshara never even said what sort of car he drove, let alone claimed that it was fast, let alone claimed that it was faster than yours. So you challenged him to race against someone else (ie, not you) on a specific date in an inconvenient location in an event that he has repeatedly stated his remarkable disdain for. Furthermore, you will behave rudely toward him, and your friends might assault him. Plus he's already busy. But somehow, his refusal to participate "says something about his personality?" What does it say exactly? That he's not a fucking idiot?

Pils, I'm the one with the 96 Nissan...not sure what your talking about.
I never said your SRT-4 was rice. Actually IMO anything with a FI setup stock is good shit.
I really like the look on the FMIC stock too.
Only thing I dont like about those is the stock ride height. Looks like it got kicked in the ass and stuck to me but thats an easy fix.

Damn I guess I'll go read the rest of the posts now.

edit:
Skogen nice pick, I love those STi's. Personally my choice would be for the slightly slower EVO but thats just b/c I like the look a little better.
Gonna mod it?

Oh and as said before:
Rice = All show no go
Tuned= All go and maybe a little show

Call mine rice or call it anything else you want. I couldnt care less. I love it.

One more thing, newest pictures here at my house after cleaning from the road trip.

Kelshara has bashed me several times in the past, unprovoked. This thread is not even the first thread in which he bashed my car. His attack on my car came before my attack on him. Who was rude? Well I guess it all depends on how long your attention span is.

Kelshara feels he/she is in a position to disrespect my ride. In order to be in that position.....possession of a superior car is required. I highly doubt he has said superior car in his possession. Which is the reason for the challenge.

Also I never threatened him. I was warning him to control his behavior in public, for his own safety. Yes that is normally understood...but I consider him a dumbass.

----------------------
Sendarie

I like your car, Kelshara also likes your car and I believe stated he was looking to get one. My comment was directed at Kelshara only due to the fact he called my car "rice" and I believe it is no more rice than the car he desired...I consider neither rice...you saw my definition of rice, the only requirement you met was it's made in Japan.

And I full heartedly agree with you, my car needs to be lowered, especially in the rear. It's near the top of my to-do list...but to do it correctly (Mopar Stage 3 Coilovers) it will cost me $1,700 or so (I'd address some bushings and end-links while I was at it). Cheap fix (lowering springs) is like $200....but I'd like to do it right.

Your Nissan is in fact a superior car in almost every aspect....but I wanted something new. I can only afford one car atm. Older cars, especially one discontinued 8 yrs ago(harder to find parts I assume), would put me in a bad position. Because at 8 yrs old stuff begins to fail...and I'm not a good mechanic yet.

I personally never found dodge cars or trucks appealing. I am sorry but you avg driver on the road is not gonna run a sub 14 sec 1/4 mile in an srt-4. Taking a car to the track and making several runs doesn't count in my book because you have time to perfect your lauch and get your shift points right. something thats not possible with a single run. The numbers you see for cars are taken from 1 or 2 runs not several.

Oh and for you to say those pro drivers must suck is retarded but then again thats not the first retarded statment you have made. Going out for the first time in a specific car/truck and getting those types of numbers is far from sucking. I would love to see these people you say run high 13s and put them in a diff car let them make two run I am willing to bet they don't get near the stated performance numbers that must make them sucky ass drivers too huh?

I could careless about how fast your car is really though. I can run high 14s low 15s with a NA 5500ib truck who cares. Its all about resale and looks to me.

Far from it. As I said, your car IS a piece of shit. I don't race anymore, in fact I am not even in the same country I USED to race. But it wouldn't surprise me if I had a normal car I'd make you pee your pants on a nice curvy road. You see, pissants like you who brag so much about your racing skillz (YO!) while driving straight ahead for a few seconds make me laugh. You are pathetic.

Do I have a car right now that cold beat you on a 1/4 mile? Nope, and I don't give a shit since I wouldn't waste my time racing straight ahead for 14 seconds.
Also I never threatened him. I was warning him to control his behavior in public, for his own safety. Yes that is normally understood...but I consider him a dumbass.
Your redneck circlejerking buttbuddies don't exactly frighten me. If I wanted to waste my time coming down there I wouldn't be alone (fat fucks like you scare me... you could like.. sit on me!) and I wouldn't give a shit about calling the cops on your ass.

Claiming a 1/4 mile racer or car are the best racer/car is ridiculous, as stupid as when they claim Nascar drivers are the best drivers in the world. Get a clue, eh?

Oh and the 300 ZX would be a second car, one to drive on nice days.

I drive a 2004 PT Cruiser GT. She's black and chrome with the platnium package. I'll try and post pics but I need to find a page to host them. I use to drive a '98 Firebird till 2 months ago when it got totaled. Best car I've ever owned but maintinene was starting to get to get hefty.

We were never talking about my racing skills. We were talking about cars here. I even said I'd have to have someone else race you because I'm not much of a racer yet.

Do you have a car that could better mine on a skidpad test then? Slalom? Provided driven by a driver of equal skill? Doubt it. Quit making excuses.

Yes, I am incredibly fat. You got me....155 lbs, 5'10", 12% body fat. In case you don't know where that places me...I'm in good shape for a 30 yr old. Nat'l avg for body fat in 30yr olds is 19.7%. 10% an under puts you at a health risk.

Anyway whatever...I'm fat, I never get laid, my car runs on liquid rice. I don't give a shit..I was just trying to correct your erroneous statements but anyone who is stupid enough to listen to you deserves to be mislead.

I'm done here...we have sidetracked this guys thread long enough.

Yeah run away like the whiny little bitch you are.

I don't give a shit if you got the national dragrace champion to drive. My "you" included any moron you would get racing for you since you suck so badly you can't do it yourself. 1/4 mile "racing" is a waste of time and car wear. Never claimed to be a good 1/4 mile racer, never want to be a good one and never will "race" a 1/4 mile.
Do you have a car that could better mine on a skidpad test then? Slalom? Provided driven by a driver of equal skill? Doubt it. Quit making excuses.
I already told you dumbass, my racing was done on streets. And in past tense. I don't do it anymore, I grew up and luckily it was in time before I killed myself or someone else (even though we did everything we could to avoid dangers for others, the night I almost took someone out I quit cold turkey).

Well like I said before I kinda like the SRT-4. One of the major factors in me not getting one was the lack of quality aftermarket parts for them at the time I was looking to get one and I got impatient.

Pils post some pics including mods when you can.

I get the feeling that Kelshara doesn't like Pils. Appropriate title though after reading each of his weak flames.

Also, going with the weight insult was a stroke of genius!

Yeah the weight insult is lame, but that is all his weak-ass deserves. Plus I'm cleaning out old computer parts and crap so am in a bad mood!

Of course, you rank down there with Pils so insults from you are pretty much considered good things!

You can see dirt tends to pool where the trunk meets the bumper, and it's time to vaccum the floormats heh.

This last picture shows what it would look like with some vinyl.
**This one is not a pic of my car**

At this point in time the only vinyl I think I want is the eyelids.
The rest is just too much "Bling" and would get me pulled over a lot.
