NFL Draft First Pick
NFL Draft First Pick
Who do you think will go first. I think Robert Gallery will be the best long term deal. He can start right away and make an immediate impact. I don't think the Chargers would take him though so I think someone else will trade up to get him.
Deward
It wont be Fitz. He may go 2nd. Chargers will take Eli or trade the pick to someone that will take Eli or Gallery.
If Eli doesn't go 1st, he may slip to 4th as the Raiders and Cardinals will be going WR IMO. Roy Williams is rumored to even be higher then Fitz on the Raiders list now.
It has an outside chance of being:
1.Gallery
2.Roy Williams
3.Larry Fitzgerald
4.Eli Manning
So hard to predict with all the possible trades this year.

From what I know about Marty, he hasn't got a fucking clue how to develop an NFL QB. Eli definitely has the tools and the talent, but being thrust into the fire with expectations to win can ruin the best prospect.
If the Chargers are looking for a "right now" kinda guy, then Fitz or Gallery would be a better pick.

Is it me or is that fucked up?
Wah wah!
I think the only sure thing in this draft is that the Cardinals are taking Larry Fitzgerald if he's there at #3.
John Elway did the same thing back in 1983 when he refused to play for the colts. I don't blame Eli. I wouldn't want to play for Marty but there are a lot worse situations to play in (cincinnati?). At least San Diego has a good running back to take pressure off the QB. I am not sure where Eli thinks he would be better though. The good teams have QB's already. I would laugh if got stuck somewhere really bad.
In my opinion Rivers is a better QB and if Manning was named soemthing else he wouldn't be geting the response he is.

Eh Manning is a damn good QB, I'd dare say he is a more gifted athlete than Peyton, and will be a superstar. Willing to bet a lot on that. And if I was going to Chargers now I would sit out as well...
That said, I will still be surprised if Chargers actually pick him. They seriously need to trade down.

The Giants sure payed a lot in that trade. Next year's one and five, and a three this year: ouch!
So far, I think Detroit stands out: I like all of their first three picks, and they basically got the running back for free by using the second they got from Cleveland (by swapping only one spot) to maneuver a few picks back into the late first round.
I like what my team, the Pats, have done so far.
They got damn lucky with Wilfork falling to them. But as I also thought it would be nice if they moved up to the early teens to get Wilfork, I guess you could say they got great value with that pick by waiting. Amazingly, they could have had the RB, Jackson at that spot as well.
I can't say I know the TE, Watson, except that he is smart, big, and it may signal the end of Danial Graham with the team. He's been very inconsistant, and is starting to look like a bust as a first rounder from two years ago.
Marquise Hill, the second round pick, may also pay off for them down the road. I liked LSU's defense in general last year, but I can't say I remember Hill's play one way or another. In general, I like the positions they addressed.
I was kind of hoping they could snag Julius Jones out of ND, but Dallas grabbed him up very quickly early in the second. Kind of hoping for Chris Snee of BC as a guard, too, but he was taken even sooner by NYG. Ah well.

You made one of the better deals in the draft, he will be THAT good. The Chargers fucked up by not taking rothsberger, gratz Charges the next Drew Brees, ohhh wait, you already fucking have 1 Drew Brees, the giants screwed themselves out of a lot of damn talent for a quarterback that will get PUMMELED behind a horrific O line, you didn't want to go to SD, ok Eli, have fun!Zamtuk wrote:WHAT THE FUCK WERE THE BROWNS THINKING?!?!

The Giants line was really sacked w/ injuries more than anything else. They will be average at best if healthy and Snee probably isn't too bad. They really could have used more defense but there was a dearth of lb's this draft.
I'm really not thrilled about getting Eli to be honest, would have preferred if they traded down, got Roethlisberger and a free safety they need really bad.

Eli is going to get beat up pretty bad in NY. They have no o-line and I can't even name any of their receivers. I would rather have played for the Chargers.
I like Rivers but I think the Chargers could have done better. Brees isn't that bad and I think he has potential if the Chargers would get a decent wr or two for him to throw too. When you RB catches 100 balls a year then that is screaming that something is wrong.
Guess we will have to wait and see what happens. Roethlisberger looks like the winner to me right now. He can sit behind Tommy Maddox and red-shirt a year. The other guys are going to get burned right away.

I'm liking the Cardinal draft so far. You never know until after they play some but Denny seems to have a plan and is sticking to it.
I watched the entire first day on ESPN/ESPN2.
Detroit and the Cardinals are on the rise! an 8-8 season can't be far off for both teams! 8-8 is like the Superbowl for those teams and then we go back to 4-12 for awhile.

Chargers have no o-line either and a coach who doesn't know up and down on a Quarterback. No thanks, I'll take Giants any day!Eli is going to get beat up pretty bad in NY. They have no o-line and I can't even name any of their receivers. I would rather have played for the Chargers.
haha I knew somebody had to go back to the good ol' Navarre whining!I feel bad for you Winnow, you guys picked up John Navarre. Watch him come in after some injuries, and trick you guys into thinking he's a decent QB, only to lose the big game.
Canes are good individually, but too many of them are individuals. Add in a weak-ass QB (I never liked Dorsey either) and you got a team with good players, but not a good team.
nah, Miami had some great teams.
the point is that if a QB can't hit a wide open TE on a 4yd route in the end zone...it hurts.
the game of football is highly dependent on production from particular positions. If a RB has his knee explode, you have potential problems. If your QB cannot execute the offense, you lose. period.
one of those 4 years Dorsey blew the game up in Washington, but the Canes still should have been in the title game that year (OU beat FSU in the championship game), considering, they beat FSU before that game.
So 2 years Dorsey blows it, one year they win it, and last year Berlin was terrible, blowing a couple games.
i think it actually all falls on the QB's shoulders in the case of Miami as to why they didn't win 4 national titles.

I'd just like to say that the Cardinal draft was Cane free!
1 3 Cardinals Larry Fitzgerald WR 6-3 225 Pittsburgh
2 34 Cardinals Karlos Dansby LB 6-5 235 Auburn
3 65 Cardinals Darnell Dockett DT 6-4 280 Florida State
4 101 Cardinals Alex Stepanovich C 6-4 300 Ohio State
5 136 Cardinals Antonio Smith DE 6-4 260 Oklahoma State
6 168 Cardinals Nick Leckey OL 6-4 285 Kansas State
7 203 Cardinals John Navarre QB 6-6 228 Michigan
The worst pick was probably Navarre but that was in the 7th round with the last pick so I can forgive them.
We did get a Florida State DT with off the field troubles though!
There had been some criticism that the Cardinals took too many small school players in the past. It looks like we went all big school this year.

At least someone else was able to understand this. Sheesh, you'd think that the Giants didn't have the single best passing offense for the first seven weeks of last season before the injuries took them down by the way Dew came off.Kelshara wrote:Chargers have no o-line either and a coach who doesn't know up and down on a Quarterback. Oh wait, they did
Only bad part about it is that the Giants' fans knew solidifying the line was best in the short term with a DB or SS a close second. I'll just say this, and I know this will sound ridiculous however, the '03 Giants were, by far, the best 4-12 team you'll ever see. Now that doesn't really mean anything since East Rutherford is sold out for the next 15 years so Hewey, Dewey, and Louie could be playing for them from a money perspective, but, it is true. And New York Football doesn't have the stigma of "buying out" other teams because the cap is nice and tight. Shit, NYG aren't even playing a single Monday night game this year.

Kellen Winslow mastered the art of disappearing in big games. This "warrior" is a lot better at running his mouth than he is running routes, blocking, or, you know, CATCHING THE FUCKING FOOTBALL.
I'm sure the blue-collar fans in Cleveland are just going to LOVE him!

Should I consider Chad Johnson this year in Fantasy Football? I was comfortable with Kitna thowing to him but have no idea about Carson Palmer.
It's highly doubtful I'd be able to draft C.Johnson in the 4th round again this year. Last year my league laughed at me and said it was too early to draft him there. I had the best record the entire season, most total points scored and best power rating the entire year then lost in the playoffs. damnit! Hasselbeck and Koren Robinson let me down.
Anquan Bolden will be hard to rank as well with Larry Fitzgerald coming into the mix.
I've only got 4 months or so to get this sorted out!

personally i do not think the Giants payed that much for Manning.
while the Giants 1st round picking has gotten somewhat more reliable in recent years, i would trade any 2 of those players we have taken for Eli.
let us not forget how brokeass they have selected previously?
Dave Brown(bust) Derik Brown(bust) Ron Dayne(bust), Cedric Jones ( who ? ) Jarrod Bunch(bust) , then some more reliable picking , netting Will allen, luke pettigout, ike hilliard. Serviceable players, sure.
but equal to a man breeded to be a quarterback? i think not.
If Eli is 85% of his brother, then it was worth it.
Giants otherwise took 2 OL, an LB, a saftey and WR. addressing some needs ( granted these players are worth it )

...if they even make the team. The thing about losing a first round in next year's draft is that the Giants will be lucky to hit .500 with Eli this coming year which means we could be looking at a 5-11 or 6-10 season. Another top prospect down the drain unless Eli is significantly better than Roethlisberger and Rivers.
Game 1 AT Philly. Sheesh, welcome to the NFC East

the linebacker and the 2nd round OG should make it.
if Eli pans out, and personally i think he will, we will have the best QB in the NFC east. That is a huge advantage.
i am willing to suffer a season while he learns.
as disgusting as free agency hurts some teams, has hurt us quite a bit as well, it is a viable avenue for us to replace that 1st rnd pick.
that all coming from i am a future > right now kind of person

The Giants always seemed dull to me. They've sucked recently but even when they went to the Superbowl they had no flashy players.
They need some flash. Eli is the first offensive player, that's not a headcase like their TE, to have a chance to give the Giants some flare. I received more entertainment value watching Detroit lose with Barry Sanders than watching the Giants win.
The Giants are more than Eli away and they'll lose a high level pick next year that SD will waist. Unless I'm missing something, the Giants won't be finishing the upcoming season near the top of the NFC East. They needed that 1st rounder next year to grab one of the big time RBs coming out to pair along with the QB they should have taken without trading picks, Ben Roethlisberger. The 2006 season would have shaped up nicely.

If the Giants put Eli on the field this coming season, they are the dumbest bunch of fucks in football. There is no way that kid is ready to start in the NFL.
Unlike his brother, who came from a college that ran a NFL-esque offense, Eli was running an offense that could only work in college.

Appearently the Giants released Collins and are throwing Manning into the fire....LOL so much for sitting out the 1st season.

it's getting too sad to cheer for them even as an underdog. I just hate Marty's guts. The whole thing with Rodney and Junior last year and now boston this year is crap.

I agree 100%. Only if Manning is significantly better than Roeth will this make sense to me. That's not saying I don't think he can, I just know that Roeth would come in and learn from Collins (because both would be able to be on the payroll) while gaining respect from the club and take over when Collins, who'd be only 32 at that time, moved on for 3-5 more yearsThey needed that 1st rounder next year to grab one of the big time RBs coming out to pair along with the QB they should have taken without trading picks, Ben Roethlisberger.

I would just like to note that the Giant's horriffic O-line has turned Tiki Barber into one of the league's leading running backs.
And that Eli is sitting out his first NFL season.
Apparently, the Giants aren't as stupid as everyone thought.

I really wanted the Broncos to take Steve Jackson (RB-Oregon) in the first round but they took DC Williams (LB-Miami) instead. Once again, good damn call Broncos!!!
Williams is tough and FAST! I like this kid and think he has one hell of a career in front of him!
Besides, Broncos already have a damn good RB from Oregon...Reuben baby REUBEN!
