'Relatively Smooth Launch' or 'Cryptic are Geniuses'

Post by noel »

Ok so, yeah, it took an hour to get on Sunday morning, and yeah the login server still tells me I'm already logged in when I'm looking at... the login page... ><

But I have to say, once logged on, I had zero lag, zero bugs, zero problems. I know Drolgin had some latency issues, but I think those corrected themselves later in the day.

I have to say that this seems to me to be one of the best launches I've witnessed, and the truly genius thing is, it's not even the real launch. The real launch happens in two days time. On a weekday. When Cryptic can count on users logging in sporadically due to it being a weekday. Not only that, by selling the preorder CDs, they were able to get an idea for how many people would be playing.

Given the amount of people in beta, I'm thinking there's not going to be a huge influx of people on Wednesday, because most of the people that wanted to play got themselves a preorder CD.

At any rate, I think this is the smoothest launch I have yet to see, and I had a lot of fun all day yesterday.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

I might agree with you had my pre-order actually gotten here last week like it was supposed to. Much H8 for the USPS

All Danes have latency. Its women and chocolate. Bread and butter. Danes and latency. Or shall I say SWEDE!?

PS Drolgin has latency in bed! Harzasorusrex!

Anyway, ya I was pretty disapointed in the first hour but it cleared up nicely. I was only booted a couple times but that was because of my wonderfully shitty router. I noticed all servers reached medium loads which surprised me. I really thought that the populations would flock to two servers but they spread out nicely.

Im just happy I got 10 levels on Sunday :) Now I can finish through level 16 in Steel Canyon alone :P

I called around to all the stores around here and none say they'll have it in stock before Thursday, and then I have to beat the crowd (assuming there is one).

How is ordering a game like that online? If I placed an order with a site today, how soon can most sites get games out after they are released? Any recommendations on where to order it?

DO NOT USE AMAZON.

They have the ship date for the game itself listed as MAY FUCKING 3RD. It was the announced date until last Thursday, then they changed it. Fucking bastards.

Sylv,

This is the first time I'm going through an online retailer, and it's EBgames.com. I realize this won't help you at all now, but I'll let you know how it goes just the same. It's alledgedly supposed to be here next day air.

Hmm...so we are saying retailers aren't expecting to shelve it on Wednesday the 28th like we originally thought?

Strangely, Walmart has been a good spot to get new EQ expansion releases so maybe they will also come through for CoH.
