CBC is crap really. They have some good shows, but generally when you have a federally funded TV station, the people running it don't pay a lot, so you get marginally talented hacks and people who think or at least want people to think they are intellectuals trying to make inpsiring television. Canadians with a remote amount of talent just go south of the border where they will actually be paid properly.
Most of the good stuff on CBC is only there because it's wholly Canadian and the US market wouldn't like or understand it. Americans generally aren't entertained unless a huge breasted near-mongloid is speaking monosyllabically, watching some heavily edited "reality" TV, nodding to some fellow slack jaw pounding on his desk and ranting mindlessly about how liberals and Clinton are destroying America, or frantically dialing 1-800-JESUS so they can send off little junior's college fund to Oral "Fucking" Roberts before The Almighty finds out that they have been holding out on Him and sends terrorists to fly a jumbo jet into their sunroom while they are eating their low carb gimmick breakfast. So a comedian like Rick Mercer probably wouldn't be too popular there.

CBC is great. I don't know about the rest of the world, but in Michigan we get CBC. I'll tell you why it's great right now.
#1: In high school I saw some like French (Canadian?) prison movie where they actually showed some girl fellate a guy on CBC. Nothing like that on American TV.
#2: Don Cherry. But that really should probably be #1.

A lot of stuff shown on Canadian tv isn't censored. One example is your "E!" tv channel. In Canada we have something similar called "Star!" tv. They have a program on both E! and Star! called "Wild On..." and they don't censor it for us Canadians, but they do censor it on your E! channel.Sylvus wrote:CBC is great. Also, I think they beeped out all the swears on "The Osbournes" on U.S tv, yet on our CTV channel, nothing was censored. When I first saw those programs censored on U.S. tv, I was quite surprised.
I love Rick Mercer. And yes, Don Cherry should be #1!
Dallas has the best Canadians money can buy.Dregor Thule wrote:American entertainment is riddled with Canadians. You love us without even knowing it most of the time. In fact, I'm sure Shaerra has probably impaled herself on a hockey stick more than once dreaming about calling one of her Dallas Stars "Daddy" and it's been a Canadian.

I was in Edmonton, Canada for Fragapalooza last summer.
I started watching the TV, and every single TV show I saw was of "Knight Rider" quality. Welcome to the 80's in production value, Canada.
The thing that shocked me was the news in Canada. It was basically 10 minutes of hockey/sports news followed by some stalling and "amusing" stories for the next 50 minutes. It was kind of refreshing actually. No horrible scare tactics like American journalism. It was just "life's pretty quiet and we like it that way, back to you Bob."
Was rather nice.
