Did you pay more tax in 2003 than 2002?
First year being self employed and used H&R Block? Unless doing a simple 1040 and needing them to electronically filed for you was big mistake #1. Purchase Taxcut, Turbotax etc and do your own taxes if not filing any type of complicated return.
Hire an accountant when your taxes become more complicated, if unable to look up the information yourself, especially when you have a business, which will allow many more legitimate deductions. H&R block has some bozo who took thier few month course and works seasonally, those of thier employees with any potential at all go on to get real training and leave after a season or two.
Considering that the standard deduction for married-filing jointly raised to 9,500 (this would be deductions, not gross income) the vast majority of country not only has saved money, but found it easier to get back. Also, credit for each child raised to 1K, though only up to turning 17 in 2003 (got screwed out of 1K deduction there, personally).
You can file an amended return up to three years back, BTW, if you think you could have paid less after seeking out a better source of information than H&R Block, such as the IRS website.
