Mountain Dew Livewire is back on the shelves. They brought it back for summer 2004...for whatever reason it's already on the shelves here.

So get out and rejoice...and stock up before August ;)

Last year the Cruel Gods of Carbonated Beverages provided us with a sweet orange nectar known as Mountain Dew LiveWire. The masses heaped praise upon the Cruel Gods of Carbonated Beverages, for this was truely a beverage like no other. However, these were the Cruel Gods of Carbonated Beverages, and no gift from the Cruel Gods of Carbonated Beverages comes without a price. Indeed, the Cruel Gods of Carbonated Beverages had a plan.

Once the greatful masses became enamoured with this heavenly concoction, the Cruel Gods of Carbonated Beverages enacted their dastardly plan. In what will surely be known as the most heinous deed of our time, the Cruel Gods of Carbonated Beverages stopped shipping their most prized refreshment. Soon the supplies of LiveWire dwindled, soon to become a rare commodity.

Civilization was brought to the brink of war as countries fought tooth and nail to get their hands on the last remaining stores of orangey goodness. The Cruel Gods of Carbonated Beverages were pleased that their experiment in unfathomable horrors had gone so well; in fact it went so well that they decided to repeat the process the following year.

So, my fellow VV'ers, it is now almost summer, and the fabled LiveWire can be found returning to the market. Stock up while you can, for one day it will all be gone again!!!

Short version: Mt. Dew LiveWire is some REALLY tasty orange shit that was sold last summer, then removed from the market. I think it's better than the rest of the Mt. Dew lineup, and I'm glad it's back, even though I have to severely limit my intake.

Digressing a bit, has anyone else tried the Lo-Carb Monster Energy drink? I think it's even better than LiveWire, personally.

I went to two grocery stores in So. Cal. this morning. Neither had any.

Anyone from So. Cal. know which stores are carrying it? Ralph's and Albertson's didn't have any, and there were no empty shelf tags for it either.

...yeah, it tasted like ass.
...yeah, it was a shallow and cloying attempt to market to "gen-x."

...but there was still something ridiculously cool about having soda cans designed by Dan Clowes.

Man, I want one of those cans to set on my shelf. Maybe I'll find one on ebay sometime.

I was living in Austin when they did the test for it, and we were one of the test cities. OK vending machines all over UT.

lots of unopened OK Soda for sale on ebay; just do a search. They aren't worth a lot (few bucks).

I didn't know that Coke made it.

You are wrong.

Even if the beverage were the worst drink on the planet, the fact that it is responsible for that 'No Easy Buckets' basketball advertisement would make it worthwhile.

I love Code Red Mountain Dew. In fact, I'm going to go get one right now!

I have to agree that the "no easy buckets" commericial is great but after you see it at every single movie you go to it gets a little tired; much like those fucking movie tickets.com ads.

No they didn't. All along the packaging said "Available Summer 2003 only" or something like that. It wasn't retired (despite my using the word but in a different context) in the normal sense. I'm betting it sold much better than P.B. Crisps.

As far as "No easy buckets" or whatever... Never heard of it.

I tried this stuff yesterday after reading this thread and it wasn't half bad. It tasted better than regular Mt. Dew, of which I used to be the world's biggest fan until it practically made my teeth start falling out.

wow...

I guess a true benefit to living in the state of South Dakota where everything is years and years behind the rest of the world, I never ran out of LiveWire.

I have been getting it in 20 oz. bottles all winter... Since the store displays that introduced the product have been taken down for a year already, I was totally unaware that a) this was a limited production product for the summer of 2003 only and that b) the rest of the country was experiencing a shortage.

My only thought now is that I realize I have been drinking last years leftovers... well, the shit still tastes GOOD!

LiveWire is the ONLY non-diet soda that I drink, so that has to tell ya something...

Diet Coke (original) is the standard by which all others are judged
Diet Coke with Lime is excellent
Diet Coke with Lemon is acceptable
Diet Coke with Vanilla is disgusting... Tastes like Carmex
Diet Mt Dew is a most excellent non-cola
Diet Pepsi is a used only to remind myself how good Diet Coke really is.

I digress... To sum it up, LiveWire is good.
