Hmm just 3 concept art pictures. I read the FAQ and didn't see anything interesting about this game. What makes it stand out from the other offerings?

Yeah I like the look of it. It must be require some high end systems. Need to see some character models though, because EQ2 also has good graphics but the characters look like plastic dolls.

Those arent concept art pictures. Those are actual in-game shots without any touch-ups.

My bad.

Looks about the same level of graphics as Lineage 2.

But seriously, you have a major hardon for L2. It scares me.

I think his hardon is for the character models (which, btw I'd love to see for Vanguard).

What am I missing in those 3 screenshots that looks so cool? I give games honest reviews. Read my comments about Lineage on these forums.

The most important things to me are guild/party raids and UI/Chat communication in a game. UI/chat sucks in Lineage 2 and raidsgrouping I can't comment on yet.

What is better about those picts than Lineage 2's graphics?

looks better then L2 imo. L2 had wierd clipping plane issues when i was in the korena beta. For example. Climb up a tall mountain and look into the distance. You can see every building model sticking out like a score thumb through the clip plane fog.

I don't notice that with the current version of the game and an ATI Radeon 9700. Looks the same as L2 to me. No clue about clipping plane issues with 3 still picts from this new game.

If Im not mistaken, its most of EQ's original Verant design team building the game... McQuaid and them....

But I have to agree with Winnow... graphics dont impress me much more than L2...

And Janx.. as for those clip plane issues... its always nice to know hundreds of miles away if your heading towards the castle :p

Yawn.

Looks like the current crop of upcomers and they are all in or close to beta testing.

Only WoW truly stands out for me by doing something truly creative with it's in-game visuals.

How's the UI for WoW? Can you open multiple windows for chat channels and tells? Is the UI as customizable as EQ?

The UI is stupidly customizable. People are writing scripts to do autobuffing (rebuffs your whole group when buff runs out) using the interface customization. They are writing new windows to allow people to view one another quest pages when grouped, so you can work out which quests to collaborate on.

Actually, I am hoping that they trim it back a bit before release because they are making very easy to automate so much of the game through scripting.

Yeah, because nobody has ever copied Tolkien before!

I would be surprised if Kyoukan didn't like the LotR, so her comment is more of a backhanded compliment. Yes, the game is probably going to follow a tried and tested high fantasy design (artistic and game dynamics), but that does not necessarily negate the potential. I will reserve my right to judge for now.

that's not really the point. look at their troll creature design. it's quite literally identical to the one specific to Jackon's movie trolls, which were quite distinct looking compared to your average dungeons and dragons big green troll.

the architecture also heavily borrows from (steals) a great deal from Jackson's films, which was also quite distinct.

All of this could be a good thing if they manage to put a good game engine in that makes this game a treat to play, with eye-candy that is enjoyable for months and years afterwards. I don't mind that it is similar to/borrowed from/stolen from another art team if the resultant game is fun. We have a long time to deconstruct this game before we get a real sniff of what it will be like. Only time will tell.

p.s. yes, I would ideally prefer that they did their own thing and had an orignal fresh art design, but in deference to the game mechanics I am willing to allow a lot of leeway.
