MechWarrior

Post by Bubba Grizz »

If you haven't heard already, FASA and Microsoft are no longer going to make a MechWarrior 5. They have their reasons but I think one of the reasons was that Microsoft is making a new OS and it would just be prudent to wait until that is out before releasing a game like this. Supposedly this new OS is going to be a gamers wet dream. We shall see.

What I really wanted to post about is playing MechWarrior in a Multiplayer setting, like at a Lan party. I am looking for Missions that can be played as a group versus the computer. CoOp play is something we don't normally get to do in MW unless you are going in a Team vs Team mode. We want to actually do missions.

Please let me know if these are available anywhere.

After a bit of searching I think I have found something cool for the game.

http://www.newbattlefields.com/news.htm

They have a number of missions designed for multiplayer.

Next Question then is this: What is your favorite Mech and what configuration do you use?

No Mech5?
Damnit, that was the series that got me started on PC Gaming.

I loved all of the Mechwarrior games. Damn fine they are!

Though they really squeezed all the money they could out of that graphics engine. Seems like it survived 3 versions. Its probably a good idea that they wait on MW 5. They really do need to toss up a brand new engine.

mektek has put out a third-party mech pack for mercs.

features lots of new mechs (marauder!!) and weaponry. those heavy lasers are nasty!

very nicely done. this, combined with New Battlefields is quite fun.

It really got me started, too. I loved MW 4. I was really good with my MKII and ShadowCat (I think it had 2 gaus' and a medium laser)

Vulture, Madcat, WarHawk (The WarHawk was the inspiration behind my origional online name, and eventually, my sirname and then later on, part of my persona) and the Atlas.

Lance of those and you die. :)

Daishi, beyotch! I used to have a quad-Gauss layout that was my fave, but I'd only use it when playing with my friends, because they knew I couldn't handle a lot of close range enemies. Unless we played without ammo, then I could dump my TONS of ammo and strap on some lasers and shit.

I also used the Mad Cats when I wanted something a bit more maneuverable, or was going to be dueling. Much love for pulse lasers and autocannons!

I played MultiPlayer BattleTech back on AOL in 1996 when i was 12.. Played that until 2001 when it was scrapped for MPBT3025, then that was scrapped after beta and everyone moved to MW...

I'd pay like 500 bucks a month to go back to that game... god damn i miss it

Just think on how great it would be if they made a mmorpg for Mechwarrior.

Instead of Quests you would have missions.
Loot would be Salvage.
Player Skills would include Mechanics and Munitions.
Guilds would be Companies.
Groups would be Lances.
Arena would be ARENA!
High End loot would be not mechs themselves but the plans on how to make them. So if you lost your mech in a battle you could pay to have it rebuilt.
Mobs = Clan, Pirates, Mercs.
Faction = Steiner, Davion, Liao, Kurita, Marik.
Guild House = Drop Ship
Raids will actually mean Raid

A gamers wet dream.

You just described MultiPlayer Battletech:Solaris, and MultiPlayer Battletech:3025..

The game was about power struggle..

a "circle" divided up into 5 parts having equal ammount of planets that can be attacked and defended with up to date status 24/7..

5 houses = 5 Factions

Each house had their own guilds(clans)

Clans had their own mechs that were different than eachother.

Each house's planets were unique.. the atmosphere was incredible..

if you wanna have some fun and see what the game was like.. check out my old clan's site..

http://www.matrix3025.com

i went by the name of CHeERiO on the game... atm im checking out the old logs and like posts made by myself when i was like in 8th grade lol it's so funny looking back..

I made posts around like.. 11/22/1997... man i was playin when i was like 12/13..

it was an incredible game while it lasted.. Looking back at it now I can't see how we did it..

my clan had like 12 active players, and the lances were only 4 ppl..

you could only have 8 ppl in on a match, so the lance fights were 4 on 4, and it was awesome...

has anyone else played it? heard about it? :)

lol sorry for ramble.. check out the site..

Site looks cool. (side note: it never fails to amaze me that a site will still be up even though it hasn't been in use for years.)

Wish Microsoft would push for something like this instead of their failed AC games.

aye, the guy who ran the site, my "guild leader" was a great friend of mine for years... 6 years? I recently lost touch with em, and found all the e-mail addys and AIM names on the roster and am currently trying to get ahold of everyone :)

If that game came back, I'd drop EQ in a heart beat~
