You hope to being to see great things from the Iraqi government come 5 years time? Here's what I expect to see. Before being able to even begin to recover from the American invasion civil unrest will have escalated to the point of basically civil war. Different religious factions will be fighting a dirty, guerilla war between each other to try and become the dominant power in the country. Eventually yet more military action will be required, probably by the UN this time, to re-liberate the already liberated people of Iraq. This isn't even taking into account the rest of the Middle East which will be heading even further towards war.
Basically, it's going to be twice the shithole it is right now to be living there. Corruption will be rampant, unrest will be widespread, and Bush will be that cowboy people talk about with contempt around the world (wait, the last part is already true. SORRY!)

While I do think Dregor's secenario is definitely a possibility here is another...
The Sheite population, who have now signed and control most of the population, win control. Through the secular wishes of other Iraqi's the new Iraq is kept from becomming a Theoracy but still retains many of the deisred religious overtones, with one exception... a Free Market Economy. The new Iraqi police force begins to take control and looting, while still present in Bagdad is under control in most of the Country. Within 5 years the unemployment rate has dropped to a new all-time low and people are able to afford more luxuries than ever before. Seeing this the people of surrounding regions begin to desire the "freedoms" now present in Iraq. During this time Syria has become entrinched with Egypt and begins to soften their anti-western stance and Iran has opened it's boarders for free trade and contact with the West due to the "good things" it's brothers are able to now experience in Iraq. Sure it's people are still mad about the Shah but find the comforts worth forgiving... During this time Bin Laden has been caught, Pakistan and India lay down arms.... oh... wait...
Ok... so possibly, maybe some of that could happen. Yes, it's a Republican dream of the perfect scenario over there and being a democrat I don't really think it will all happen... but some of it just might. And that would be a good thing for the world... IMHO. Maybe it's the Half-Full / Half-Empty view, who knows...

I'm sure the clear thinking Iraqi's are appreciative. The animals are clearly not happy and will be sure to try and make this chance fail. We gave them a chance. If they fuck it up, then they prove to be the animals muslim haters and towel-head haters suspect they are in the first place. I'm hoping they work through all the utrmoil to come over the next many years or decades and make themselves a viable country.Arborealus wrote:Clearly the iraqi's lack your enthusiasm...
If they just become corrupt again and become a breeding ground for religious fanatics and freedom haters, then I hope we drop a few big bombs on them and crater the whole fucking country.

Mid.. props to you for preaching what you believe.
But as a moderate republican, I HAVE to ask you to please, please pull your foot out of your mouth.
Please, just.. for the sake of the other republicans that try and make a respectable point.. stop now.

Passion and conviction do not equal hate. I don't hate anything but people who do harm to others and who live their lives without thinking about how their actions affect the masses.Akaran_D wrote:Different thing, but the hate is the same, just aligned to match your own personal beliefs.

Well... coming from a very anti-Bush fellow, I see the Iraq situation as something that would have happened sooner or later, whenever Saddam fell from power.
At least there is not a huge power vacuum in the country at the moment, with the U.S. nominally in control. While it would have been far better to have the UN in control, at least the country wasn't immediately thrown to the wolves with an "untimely" death of Saddam and the resulting bloody power struggle between his sons and other elements of the Baath party.
In fact, I think that the rush to get out of Iraq by the end of June (and beginning of the election cycle) will probably result in civil war. Already we are seeing private "security forces" within Iraq which are reminiscent of Beirut before it exploded. We really need the UN here, but quite frankly they are of the mind "you made the bed, now you get to lay in it." Can you blame them?
The long and the short of it is, however, that it was foolish to invade Iraq without a strong committment from the UN to help stabilize the country after Saddam was removed. That is what the UN has proven itself good at doing, bringing countries back from the brink if all sides decide to cooperate. For now it seems as if all three sides want to do that, but whether the U.S. presence will be a catalyst for cooperation or a divisive force remains to be seen. While I hope for the former, I dreadfully fear the latter.

Hey, Mid.
Republican here, moderate / conservitive.
Don't bash ME for asking you to tone it down a notch. Zealousness goes hand in hand with passion, and passion can lead to hate. What you normally rant about comes across as extremely ignorantly hateful.
I think you need to pcik better words to describe your positions is all.
And frankly, I take offense to being called close minded.
Stubborn.. ok, that's somthing I'm guilty of.

You know, quite a few of those you look up to do harm to others. Want to win the war on terror? I'l give some advice right now...STOP FUCKING TAKING SIDES AGAINST THE NATIVE ARABS AND FUNDING ISRAEL.
How would you like it if the U.N. told you one day that your property belonged to Native Americans? Even though your family has lived on the same land for over 300 years, they were there 1st. So the UN tells you that you have 3 months to evacuate, would you not be pissed off?

I don't speak for a particular party. I'm registered republican because their mind set more closely relates to what I think is right. But, they have a lot of fucked up ideas just like the Dems. In europe, in which i have lived in for more then 1/3rd of my life, "society" is MUCH more liberal. In most of western europe at least there is much less religion, MANY more titties on TV, legalization or decriminalization of "light" drugs, and a totally uncensored media.Midnyte_Ragebringer wrote:I don't speak for a particular party. In europe there is also a lot less crime, a lot more maturity and respect regarding sexuality in all its forms, a higher quality of life, less drug abuse, and an overall more, at least socially free society.
In this bible beating border line nazi, hypocritical shithole of a society there is a lot more crime in almost all aspects that there can be.
We are closer to Iraq and Saudi Arabia as far as a "free society" goes then to europe, and tell me...what system works?

Shocking fact: Did you know that most Islamic extremists do not kill Americans?
Edit: Most also do not plot to kill Americans!
Edit 2: Actually, it could be argued that you do more to kill arabs than your average islamic extremist does to kill americans. You have the right of political participation, and have utilized that right to support a war that has resulted in the death of thousands of arabs. Many arabs (especially those in extremist countries) do not have the right of political participation, and thus most have not actively acted against America. There is more blood on your hands than theirs. Now I'm not saying that this is necessarily a bad thing: if you think that the end goal of our policy is more important than a few thousand dead arabs, then go ahead and keep banging that drum. Just don't try to take the high road here, that's hypocrisy.

I am far more frightened of Christains here in America than I am of Arabs in Iraq. The Arab fundies have managed to kill all of 3-5000 people in America during my lifetime and apart from those deaths, some property damage and some inconvenience during travel, the Arab fundies have had little impact on my life as a whole. Christians, on the other hand, and not only a tiny set of very radical ones, but really the mainstream middle of the road religious ones, have always been and continue to be, a far greater destructive force in my day to day life than the Arab terrorists could ever hope to be.

My first instinct was to challenge your position, but it occurred to me that this is likely to be a fairly true, and commonly held, belief. Probably IS true for many, many people.Aaeamdar wrote:I am far more frightened of Christains here in America than I am of Arabs in Iraq. And ultimately, I think that's sad, for many reasons.

Personal views on the justification for war aside, at least we stuck around this time to help rebuild the country and put a sovereign government in place after bombing them to hell and invading.
/thanks Clinton for not doing this 12 years ago.
Now if we could only keep our collective noses out of Haiti, Venezuela, the Koreas, China and Israel, I think we may be alright.

Re: FREEDOM !
I hope things work out in Iraq. I'd guess it is 50\50 right now. At least they showed some compromise on the temp constitution (I also feel much better about it now that it has been stated to be a temporary constitution).Midnyte_Ragebringer wrote:http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,113521,00.html
I sure am proud to be an American today. I hope 5 years from now we begin to see great things from Iraq and their new government. Thank you Mr. Bush for giving these 50 million people their FREEDOM !
The US killed thousands of Iraqis for this "Freedom". Thank Bush for that also. If Iraq turns into paradise next week Bush deserves no credit. I support revolutions, not invasions. Bush had no right to kill these people in the name of freedom.
I'm sure you are a proud american Mid, I just hope one day you realize how much harm people like you do to your country's image.
PS. 50 million people....you are dumb.

Xyun,
Excellent way to cut what I said and make it look worse than it is.
I'm the ignorant one? Do I cut and paste and bash your character? Or do I question your philosophy? Bah. You think you are right and enlightened and I think I am.
I am willing to move on ideas based on facts, but you just continue to rip aparts specific words, phrases, misspellings and call names as your way of arguing.
You keep pitying me and you'll never see it's you who could use the improvement.

Of course. Not only is he responsible for everything that's happened during Bush2's presidency, but he also hopped in his evil liberal time machine and caused everything bad that happened during Bush1's presidency also.vn_Tanc wrote:Thanks Clinton for stuff that happened while Bush 1 was in charge?/thanks Clinton for not doing this 12 years ago.
Reason # 87 on why they hate us.
The unprecedented levels of hypocrisy demonstrated by the United States towards the region. Case in point, during that gassing incident the Bush admin kept citing as a travesty of humans rights abuse here is how Bush's pop handled it.
"In America, a resolution urging sanctions against Iraq was tabled by Senator Claiborne D. Pell and passed by both Houses of Congress. It was vetoed by President Bush. The White House even granted Baghdad a further loan of a billion dollars."
http://mondediplo.com/1998/03/04iraqkn
On top of that, a UN resolution to condemn the attack was vetoed by the US.
Now the US goes into the region and says "we want to free the wonderful people of Iraq from the oppression they have sufferred" it's a bit difficult for them to believe us.
Honestly I am inclined to believe that it did have some significance with the invasion, but it's going to take a long time to repair the damage that numerous adminstrations (both dem and rep) have done there.
Meanwhile we continue to support unpopular regimes in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia...
But just as we did in the 1980's by supporting Hussein to counter Iran, the greater interest of terrorism affects our support for these governments.
On a sidenote, I like this simplifcation of the political parties.
Democrats - Tell you how to spend your money, could care less what you do in your bedroom.
Republicans - Don't want your money, but are deeply concerned about what goes on in your bedroom.

Iraq has a chance for true change. If they exercise this opportunity perhaps, just maybe things will be better in the middle east in our lifetime.
Aaeamdar, you say that terrorists have killed 3-5000 Americans in your life time and that Christians are by far the more dangerous group. I would challenge this. The terrorists that have killed Americans have removed their most basic freedom, the right to live.
I dare say that I have not witnessed indiscriminant murder of innocents by Mainstream Christian North Americans in my lifetime. If the problem is your lifestyle vs Christian beliefs well my friend perhaps you should read that little document called the Constitution where freedom of religion and freedom of speech go hand in hand. They are not dangerous.
But because they believe that your lifestyle is wrong I can see how this could be something you would want to call life threatening?
Yes my friend there are cells of Christians meeting all across North America at this very moment plotting the downfall of all you hold dear, they are armed, willing to blow themselves up, and to kill any homo, thief, adulterer, idoloter (is this a word?), etc.
OMG IT IS THE CHRISTIAN TERRORIST GROUP RUN RUN!!!!

dont you think it is illogical to try to parallel extremist fundamentalist Islamic behavior with Mainstream Christian behavior?Atokal wrote:I dare say that I have not witnessed indiscriminant murder of innocents by Mainstream Christian North Americans in my lifetime.
Christian extremists are the valid comparison to Muslim extremist.
People like Timothy McVeigh, for example.
I'm not trying to suggest that our home grown terrorists (ie: Unabomber, Oklahoma City...) are worse than what happened on 9/11 at all. I just think your comparison is invalid Atokal.

Voro, Tim McVeigh was one crazy dude. To compare one pyscho with a group of thousands who plot and scheme death and destruction doesn't compute.Voronwë wrote:dont you think it is illogical to try to parallel extremist fundamentalist Islamic behavior with Mainstream Christian behavior?Atokal wrote:I dare say that I have not witnessed indiscriminant murder of innocents by Mainstream Christian North Americans in my lifetime.

All muslims are not bad. There are sects who use the words of their religion to brainwash followers to do evil in the name of their supposed God. All violence based of of imaginary God's are quite hilarious to me and yet very sad and dishaertening at the same time.
