Pick and click, explinations welcome.
I'd vote for education purposes. Both directly and indirectly, that affects all other sections of the poll. I also have family in the education system (teachers and students both) and can pretty much attest how shitty it is..

I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

Yes and it seems like at leats once a year I hear about some scandal in such and such school district that involves $$.Kelshara wrote:What she said.. although a lot of schools would do a heck of a lot better if they spent their money intelligently. A lot of really stupid decissions are made.

Bloody anarchist...Aaeamdar wrote:Guess I am the only one who wants his $5 back.

I would have to choose education as well though in truth I would choose to divide the money equally among education, environment, science and the arts. Education should and does address the other 3 issues.

I went with education. I'll go along with the philosophy, “Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime" It all starts with education.
It's a nice poll but spending more money on something doesn't mean it will improve unless the money spent is used the right way.
My second choice would be science!

I'd go with law enforcement, if they actually spent the money on enforcing the laws people are concerned about..
Blatant/dangerous speeding (I really don't care if some jackass wants to do 100MPH in the middle of nowhere, but 100MPH while weaving through traffic on the interstate is a problem)
Drugs: Provided you target those with a high impact. I recall the leading drug enforcement (from a scientific viewpoint) guy in England wondering what all the fuss was about Ecstacy when they had 13 deaths that year from it, v's 100/day from alcohol.
I'd be much happier if cops took off their riding boots and walked beats than sat in their cruisers raising revenue with 10MPH speeding fines.

I'd say education, IF it was specified that it had to go for things that would help the actual education in the schools...most of the fucking money we get here at my school goes to goddamn football. The football team always has new equipment, the best shit they can get, while the school itself can't fucking afford to have more than 1 computer in each room, and over half the rooms dont have working heating or air conditioning (I have one class that gets to around 90 degrees really early \ really late in the school year, and during the winter you can see your breath).

I chose Education. Having a son who is 9 1/2, I see the need for education help. He is in some remedial programs for reading and writing, yet I know there is so much more that can be done.
3 schools in my hometown are being shutdown this coming year (all elementary) because of the frivolous spending and the way the budget was written for the town. Class sizes for k-3 were 20 students per class , next year they will be back to 31-35 per class.
The issues in that particular district are tough. Livermore is part of Alameda county, yet it doesnt get the same amount of money per student as 2 of its neighboring towns. The other 2 being Pleasanton and Dublin get roughly 40% more er student, all because they are closer to Oakland (even though both cities are much more wealthy due to home prices etc ..)
We moved over the weekend to another town about 30 miles North, he starts school here in about an hour. I'll be very curious to check out the budget preoccess here, and see how he is treated in a new school. Another strange thing I saw , Buses , OMFG , I saw kids getting on the BUS to go to school. I havnt seen that in almost 20 years. Wish the lil Phugg jr luck in his first day at a new school, and a new town.

I can feel your pain Phugg. I was a pretty horrid student in elementary school because of a fucked up family life. Only advice I can give is to tutor him ever night. When I was with my dad, he would write out multiplication lists for me to practice with every night. Also find books that your kid likes and make him read instead of playign video games and watching tv. When I was 9, I really liked the black stallion books. Good Luck, childhood is a bitch and changing schools makes it even tougher. I went to nine different elementary schools. It sucks ass.
