Anyone on a wireless network, can you help me?

No holds barred discussion. Someone train you and steal your rare spawn? Let everyone know all about it! (Not for the faint of heart!)

Anyone on a wireless network, can you help me?

Post by Lalanae »

I'm writing something for work and I need one bit of info. Unfortunately my machine is not set upfor wireless and my engineers are slow as fuck to respond.

I'm trying to get from the Network Connections screen to a dialog box for Wireless Connection configuration. The dialog box has two major sections: Available Networks and Preferred Networks.

When you go to Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network Connections (using category view), is there a network category that says something like Wireless Connections (I need the exact name, caps and all)? Is the category heading itself clickable? If so, does it go to the dialog box described above?

1000 VVs to whoever can help me out. Thanks!

i dont think a seperate heading comes up for "Wireless Connections"

my main client at home has 2 potential ways to hook to the internet, one wireless. They are under the same heading on my Network Properties.

As for Available v. Preferred, if you dont see any available networks, then your wireless NIC is either: a. not working properly or b. there is no wireless network nearby :)

I'm not set up for wireless, that's why I need someone else to tell me what they see.

I know there is a bridge (one link) between the Network Connections window and the Wireless Connections dialog box. I walked through this with out Marketing Person but he left out that one step. Everything before and after I am clear on.

I'm fairly certain Voro is right and there isn't a wireless network area. Basically if its not showing up in available or preferred you also might be blocked out because your mac isn't entered in the table for the network. I dunno, can't you talk to the network admin and be like, word yo? (Thats the techie term for Hi, please help me get on the network)

You guys are totally missing my question.

I am not trying to connect to anything. I am WRITING procedures for connection. I just need to know how you get from Network Connections to the Wireless Connections dialog box.

It is either

a) clicking a direct link to the dialog box
b) right clicking something and selcting Properties or Configure or something.

I need to know: is it a or b? what does the link or thing I select say or represent (i.e. "Wireless Connections" or your network ID)

Maybe this will help clarify. These are the steps I have so far. I am missing step 2.

1. Select Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network Connections. The Network Connections window is displayed.

2. ??????? The ?Wireless Network? dialog box is displayed.

3. In the Wireless Network dialog box, do this and that (the instructions are not important at this point)

Right clicking "Wireless Connection" in the overall Network Connections window (90% certain), would be my answer, and selecting the property.

Lala, I can't here at work set up screenshots, but I move from WLAN to WLAN during the day. Typically what I do is right-click on the Wireless Network Connection icon in the 'Network Connections' window, and click on 'View Available Wireless Networks'.

This will display all available WLANs that are broadcasting their SSID.

Let me know if you need more help.

Thanks Vor, but I have to be 100% sure of the selection and the naming. It may be "Wireless Networks" or "Wireless Network Connections" etc.

He's lying, he left out the windex part. I know this, because Tyler knows this.

Thanks! That's it! I found some competitor documentation that said the same with accompanying screenshots.
