What are joo going to be for Halloween?
Halloween coming up in a month! It's one of my FAVORITE holidays. I was deprived as a child and wasn't allowed to go trick-or-treating for many years (until I was 10). It was 'evil' (religious upbringing kthnxpullthruweneedyourmoney).
I live in a small college town and we have great costume parties. Usually my costumes are pretty boring, but this year I wanted to do something special.
I am rather short.. so I went out and bought a kid's XL costume (the nylon with plastic mask one piece) of Jango Fett.. it's fluffin hilarious! My mom thinks I should try going around the neighborhood with some kids and see if anyone catches on that it's an adult in a kiddie costume.
What are you going to be!? Here's a great idea (not work safe):

I am going to rent a Ford Excursion, and wear LL Bean Clothes, and go as a Vegan, Liberal, Democrat who wants to save the world with other peoples paychecks.

is "regime change in Iraq" world saving going to be done strictly with Bush's campaign contributors (hefty) paychecks?Kylere wrote:I am going to rent a Ford Excursion, and wear LL Bean Clothes, and go as a Vegan, Liberal, Democrat who wants to save the world with other peoples paychecks.
before this thread derails into the typical Democrat v. Republican, Repbulican v. Democrat drivel, my point is that it is nonesense to look at one party as virtuous and the other as the opposite. the only substantial differences between the average member of either party is the rhetorical pablum they feed their constituents.

The Bush administration's "with us or against us" mentality, and using the 911 tragedy as a jumping point to invade a completely unrelated country in order to install a puppet regime and start oil flowing from Iraq again, this time under control of Bush sr and his crony's big texas oil interests?Aranuil wrote:I'll bite. What were you insinuating with your timely 9/11 reference?
Then explain what your remark was about. You wanted to throw something out there. More than just one person didn't <---come on down. understand it.
Searyx-level accusations and insults? Everything you post IS in fact his level. You just don't <-- 2? relize this.
So go back and explain what you said.Or is it a lot better for you just to make fun of someones "correct" english, and try and make yourself feel that much more special?
Although I don't agree with Bush. Well hell 99% of the things he does pisses me off. As for going in to Iraq, and ousting Saddam. At first if he would have complied with UN sanctions we wouldn't be sitting in this postion now.
It has been how many years, since we left there?8ish years? He wouldn't let the UN inspecters search certin areas for weapons/ bio weapons, then when we "forced him to" he kicked the UN inspecters out. I'm sorry but if you have NOTHING to hide, you don't tell people they cant search stuff that they CLEARLY have every right to.
He has kept UN inspecters out ever since. Now he agreed to allow them to go back. Hey look at that. He is following though on something. Now hes turned around and WILL not go along with any UN sanctions or inspections.
I'm sorry if you feel the US is one big bully tring to push around a lil country. Just for the Bush Jr to hook up Bush SR on oil. If anything we should have taken action aginist Iraq as soon as he kicked UN inspecters out in the first place. Not some odd years later.
I need a spell checker. Anything past 3 words,I'm sure I will fuck it up

It had little or nothing to do with 9/11 aran, but everything to do with american politics.Aranuil wrote:I'll bite. What were you insinuating with your timely 9/11 reference?
Scroll up two posts from the original post by kyoukan in this thread.
Kylere.
Voronwe.
Kyoukan.
I thought it was pretty obvious, and if I may add, very funny.
edit. errr, late reaction. And it's 5 posts, not two. but the three named above are the important ones.

I'll be blunt. As long as my family/friends and the interests of my country and our allies are safe, he can do anything he damn well pleases.kyoukan type-R wrote:The Bush administration's "with us or against us" mentality, and using the 911 tragedy as a jumping point to invade a completely unrelated country in order to install a puppet regime and start oil flowing from Iraq again, this time under control of Bush sr and his crony's big texas oil interests?Aranuil wrote:I'll bite. Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.
And that line of unthinking is about to kill a couple hundred thousand innocent Iraqi civilians.Aranuil wrote: I'll be blunt. As long as my family/friends and the interests of my country and our allies are safe, he can do anything he damn well pleases.
But yeah, in times like this we really should be thinking about the livelihood of those Texas billionaires and massive manufacturing corporations with defense department contracts.

I don't disagree, but do the ends justify the means? I think they do.
Also, lets not pretend it's all W's fault. Our goverment is fucked up on many levels, not just the executive branch.
I'll say this again, was Gore really a better alternative? I don't think so. I think things would likely be worse than they are now.

im more dubious about this war push because of the potential economic impact than whether or not i buy in to any conspiracy theories regarding energy barons.
please no posts about guns and butter
every economic index is in the fucking toilet. Nasdaq is at a 6 year low. Japan couldnt sell off all of the government bonds it was trying to issue, which people seem to think is a bad thing, and that is the 2nd biggest economy in the world.
so i would hope that we would be particularly mindful of what sort of an economic impact this sort of military operation would have.

two wrongs don't make a right.I don't disagree, but do the ends justify the means? I think they do.
Does Saddam blow miserable goat chunks? Yes.
But, we have no right to do what we are trying to do.
Yes our government is fucked up on many levels. I for one, would like to fix it, and not just let it run rampant until it's citizens, myself included, are screwed beyond all recovery.
The Gore/Bush argument is moot. Read voro's post, please. Neither were great choices. But again, just because "x is better than y" does not give x the right to do whatever it wishes, outside of right/wrong/and reason.
edit. Very true voro. But as an idealist I refuse to settle and say "oh, well it's ok we blow thousands of people the fuck up, because it's good for our economy." I understand that I have a difficult view. But still, I don't feel it's right.

I agree with everything you said, and I hope to God that you and others ARE able to change it. I'm just saying that the safety of our country and our allies should be our primary concern. Not that I really think Iraq is much of a threat...Truant wrote:two wrongs don't make a right.I don't disagree, but do the ends justify the means? I think they do.
