Three Albums
You have to choose three and only three, which three are they? You are allowed to change your mind if someone convinces you or you weren't thinking clearly when you first answered. No more than three though, or I'll delete your post, ban you from the board for 2 months, and shave your dog's fur off.

Tool-Lateralus
Marliyn Manson-Antichrist Superstar
Tool-Ænima
*edit* Can we use the next Tool album? I have enough faith in it that I would replace Lateralus with it.

You got it. I was going to go with the desert island thing, but it's too cliche. So I just said pick three.Tenuvil wrote:if you could only listen to three albums ever again which would they be? alternatively, if you could only bring three albums to a desert island which would they be?

Undertow was good, Ænima was better. I actually liked Opiate better than Aenima, but there weren't enough tracks on that to justify it as an "on a desert island" type of poll.Xyphir wrote:For all those that picked Tool, what did you think about Undertow?
Lateralus, in my opinion, was a little too experimental for my taste. I enjoyed the album, but I don't know that I've fully processed the direction they are taking their music. Call me cliquey or cliche, but that album just didn't click with me.

I really only arbitrarily picked Ænima over any of the others, I love them all. Opiate and Undertow for when I want something "harder", Ænima for any occasion and Lateralus is more for when I'm in a more relaxed mood or on drugs.
Then I have various bootlegs and covers that I listen to as the feeling strikes me. Tool is by far my favorite band, and a Tool concert is damn near a religious experience.

Ænima was the first Tool album I listened to. I'd heard "Sober" and maybe one or two other songs and decided to grab one of their albums. Ænima was the album I bought and I can't remember why. Maybe it was the interesting cover art. Anyways, I went home, listened to it twice, and I was hooked. Shortly thereafter I bought Opiate and Undertow and then Lateralus when it was released. I think I'd list Undertow as my 2nd favorite, though I really enjoy them all. How I'm feeling/what mood I'm in dictates which Tool album I'll listen to. Ænima seems to be the one that I listen to the most.
Other two albums, tough decisions...
Smashing Pumpkins - Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
A Perfect Circle - Mer De Noms
edit: changed my mind

U2 - Greatest hits 1980-1990
The The - 45 rpm
Radiohead - OK computer
But I would put them in Britney Spears, Jenifer Hanson and Liz Phair CD case so I have some "Reading Material" on the island.

When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon

Massive Attack : Blue Lines
The Shamen : Axis Mutatis/Arbor Bona Arbor Mala
Wire : Pink Flag
Blue Lines is an absolute masterpiece. Every single track is outstanding and it was the precursor to the 'acid jazz' movement. It influenced so many artists then and now.
Axis Mutatis holds a lot of sentimental value to me. Listening to it never fails to bring a smile to my face and put me in a good mood. The Shaman never attained much mainstream popularity in North America but they are my favorite 'band' from the late 80s, early 90s.
Eventhough I was a little young to pick it up when it was released, I still find it hard to believe I'm still listening to Pink Flag on a near weeky basis after 22 years. Even harder to believe Wire is still making innovative music.... Colin Newman has gotta be comin up on his 60th birthday soon.

Van Dyk's Politics of Dancing is also one of my favorites.

I love side one - could take or leave side two. Whoops, I used the term side - guess I went and dated myself again.Arundel Pajo wrote:Talking Heads - "Remain in Light"

This is really really hard - I love so many different kinds of music. Gotta stick with the old classics, though, if it can only be three:
The Police - "Zenyata Mondata"
The Talking Heads - "Fear of Music"
The Clash - "London Calling"

It's okay, sir. I have that one on vinyl, too. And I agree that side one is by far the better of the two.Ogbar wrote:I love side one - could take or leave side two. Whoops, I used the term side - guess I went and dated myself again.Arundel Pajo wrote:Talking Heads - "Remain in Light"![]()

I actually almost listed this one, also - their best record by far. That is an awesome album. Though it's part of their later, more electronic sound, I also like "Ideal Copy" a whole lot.miir wrote:Wire : Pink Flag

Ideal Copy is a fantastic record... I think I wore out the grooves on that one.Arundel Pajo wrote:I actually almost listed this one, also - their best record by far. That is an awesome album. Their only weak record (IMO) was Manscape. Aside from Torch It and A Craftsman Touch it was a pretty lousy album. After Pink Flag and Ideal Copy, my favorite Wire albums are A Bell is a Cup... and It's Begining to and Back Again.
As for their solo stuff, Colin Newman : Bastard and He Said (Graham Lewis) : Take Care are standouts.

There's no way I could limit it to just 3 (I'd have trouble limiting it to a hundred or more). But just off the top of my head, these come to mind (ask me again in 2 minutes and I'll have an entirely different answer) ... or at the very least, here's 3 albums that I've been playing a lot recently:
Derek and the Dominoes - The Layla Sessions
Crush - Here
The Tragically Hip - Up To Here

First off it's all about MP3's and 20gig Nomad portable players!Sylvus wrote:You got it. I was going to go with the desert island thing, but it's too cliche. Andreas Vollenweider - Caverna Magica
Rush - Moving Pictures
Led Zeppelin Boxed set...all 4 CDs are in the same case! that count? (Zeppelin IV if only one album)
Note: I'd get sick of any 3 albums after awhile. If I had time to think about it, I'd get three albums with singles from various artists as varied as possible.
