Evil - Neutral- Good

Post by Dups. »

In recent years games have been letting you decide which allignment you choose to follow judging from your actions. When a game allows you to do this. Which allignment do you choose? and why?

Any of you have an interesting story of where certain things happened in a game and you caught yourself saying "Damn, I'm glad I am an evil character or vice versa"

The first game I played that actually allowed me to choose if I was going to be evil or not was Everquest.

I decided to give evil a try. Dark Elf wizard. Seeing how I was always "the good guy" in other video games. I find it was cool because a lot of people are still playing a good character because they are used to it. It was neat being able to go into dark, evil places. I could always have my "good" in game friends purchase something I needed from a good town if I needed it.

Anyhow, since this experience I find myself wanting to try out being the evil guy often enough.

Neutral / Good mainly.
Akaran of Mistmoore, formerly Akaran of Veeshan
I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

I lean towards the chaotic evil. Though I will do a good deed, providing it's in my best interest.

I'm currently playing NWN-SoU and had the choice to either help the Bedines (sp?) or make a deal with Kel Garas and get a nifty item. I chose to make the deal, stab the Bedine leader in the back, and then defile their alter. It was wonderful!

Also I decided to pretend to be some god named Ao and have a couple of the worshipers give me items. It's so much fun!

Ao is not just a god - he's the overseer of the gods. He played a large part in the Avatar trilogy that came along with the "storyline" conversion of 1st Ed. AD&D to 2nd Edition (like killing off all of the assassins, which were taken out as a class choice in 2nd Ed.)

I pretty much am what I am...

I have tried to play evil characters but I suck at being evil or even neutral...I find I almost always slip into chaotic good regardless of my initial intent...I basically enjoy helping people...:)

I'm always good. I start up evil, end up good. I almost always get suckered, even when they're lying. I just can't suffer things like leaving the widow behind when she has a kid and her husband just got eaten. I always cough up the maximum amount of cash, almost always accept no recompense for my deeds, either.

I can't bring myself to be evil.

I find the dialog options and gameplay to be far more interesting in games where you have the option to be evil. I tend to favor the classic "Lawful Evil" alignment in games. The best game for this was KOTR, btw where I found myself actually personally laughing and somewhat mortified at the degree of cruelty you could sink to in the game if you chose that path (plus the game is much easier to beat as a dark jedi). Most games don't allow much in the way of flexibility in that regard. The best games are the ones that put hard choices in front of the Player, evil or good. The only games that I can recall that were really good about this, aside from KOTR, were the Fallout games which had excellent dialog.
War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .

Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.
--RICHARD M. NIXON, "REAL PEACE" (1983)

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."

I am usually chaotic good or chaotic neutral. I do enjoy being totally evil sometimes though. I am not a law abiding citizen, but I am good at heart.

Like Jice said though, if the game actually has an interesting path for good and bad, evil is always fun. For Kotor I played through both ways, evil was pretty damn fun in that game.

I enjoy playing the Evil guy, Back in the AD&D days I usually played a chaotic neutral, but when the issue of Dragon Magazine came out with the Anti-Paladin, I was in my glory.... That was my character from then on.
