Cool game. From the makers of the original Baldurs Gate. It's better then Baldur's Gate II: Dark Alliance which I downloaded and tried a few days ago.
I was owning orcs last night with my new Gatorsmasher! The inventory system looks like Dungeon Seige. There's plenty of Everquest verbage in the game and even augs you can place on your items. Cheap gate scrolls allow you to port back to the store often so you don't have a long travel time to unload your loot.
If you actually buy the game you can play with up to 4 players together online. If you don't buy the game, expect a monster 7GB or so download off the newsgroups. It's a DVD9 double capacity DVD.
The female toons are hotties. As with real EQ, most of the helmets suck so there's circlets you can get that have no graphic so the pigtails can fly around during combat. Erudite's have huge fake hooters. That's about it for the important info.
Anyway, if you like that type of game, it's the best out there atm and is a little more entertaining than most with the Everquest locations.

I really want to hurt myself for thinking that was an expansion for EQPS2 and not preordering.

I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

It's better than D&D Heroes. I like it quite a bit, but it is fairly buggy. It's odd to see a console game with more than one or two glitches, but I guess they were really trying to capture the spirit of Everquest. I'm guessing I'll get to the end of the game and find out the class I picked is worthless as well.
I like it more than Dark Alliance 2, but DA2 has more interesting classes like monk and necromancer.
Snowblind Studios are fucking technical geniuses however. The game looks amazing and if you have a nice sound system hooked up to your TV, you won't find a better sounding game on any console. It's so crystal clear and noisy that I cranked it right up and my next door neighbors came over to see if my house was being trashed by goblins. The voice acting is mostly good as well, but there are a few that make my teeth grind.
It's definitely worth the 50 bucks if you have a PS2. There's like 5 classes and most are markedly different enough to play through them all. There's also 3 difficulty levels where you import your character from the last difficulty level and can keep levelling them up. It also has online multiplayer if you have the PS2 broadband adapter. I don't have one but I've heard it's pretty stable.

Got this game the other day and played it last night.. Gotta say, if you liked either of the Baldur's Gate games for the PS2, you'll like this one. It is definitely harder than they are in terms of mobs killing you but it makes for more thought involving fighting at times.
Nice easy way to get an EQ fix without having to worry about safe camp spots, corpse recoveries, etc.
My only complaint thus far is the camera being a bit too top-down. It gives you a very limited view of what's ahead of you and sometimes you'll find yourself walking right into a huge crowd of monsters that you couldn't see. Other than that though, so far it's great.

I played a warrior my first go around. My setup was specializing in blunt weapons. I used all my EXP Points on increasing my damage with blunt weapons and increasing my damage duel wielding. I also stuck with Fast weapons and used the extra damage augs.
I ended up with two weapons that were doing 200hps each with the bonus from my ability points. I loaded up on health and mana potions and when any boss mob showed up I'd pound the mana potions while using one of the few spells I had that doubled my damage for a few seconds. I also only bought regen items. i had killer hp regeneration. I found no need for the resist items.
For almost any boss mob, the trick was to let the slow ass giant boss swing once then get behind it and go nuts with the double damage. Spamming the heal potions if needed.
I made it through almost the entire game not having to use a ranged weapon. The few mobs that had knock-back explosive arrows did require me to throw a few spears.
Fun game! I'm guessing warrior is the easiest as plowing through mobs melee style seems easier then firing off thunderbolts and hoping your mobs stay under them.
I ended up with 200K in money as I didnt have a need to spend money on anything but healing potions for the most part.

I'm finding things to be about the same when it comes to money. At level 8 I'm up to around 17k. The only thing I buy is health potions. Haven't used a gate scroll yet. Mostly sticking to high damage (slashing) weapons and started a Shadow Knight. The disease bolt is pretty spiffy.
Would be nice to be able to carry more stuff though.. but I guess since there's no need for money.. I've just been dropping anything that doesn't sell for at least a grand.
I like the way Kelethin looks in CoN better than EQ though. Haven't gotten past GFay yet, but looking forward to it. Definitely predict expansion packs for this in the future..

My GF and I play this game all the time. Our SK + Warrior setup is unbeatable. She does her crit spell with her warrior and my SK casts his disease shield and everything falls like rain. (disease shield also crits when under the effect of the warrior spell)
Skeletal compaion is completely worthless though.
Try the cheat to figure out the best spell paths for your legit characters. It makes you lvl 20, 999 skill points, and gives you 75000 pp to spend.

The biggest disappointment I had was that you can't play 2-players online. Coatie and I are playing offline, but we have some other friends that have the game, and we won't be able to both play online unless we get another PS2, another network adapter, and another copy of CoN
Otherwise it is pretty enjoyable, and I agree if you like the BG DA series, you'll find this game at least as good as that.

I was curious about that, thanks for the info.. That is kinda disappointing, but I wonder if there's any game you can play two player on the PS2 online..XunilTlatoani wrote:The biggest disappointment I had was that you can't play 2-players online.
Still an enjoyable game, but like was said, it detaches from EverQuest fairly quickly (location wise). I'm curious if Lords of EverQuest is the same or better since I just got that to try.
LoE is Warcraft III set in the EQ world. I personally didn't think it was that bad but I'm not a RTS player so I didn't play it long.Siji wrote:Still an enjoyable game, but like was said, it detaches from EverQuest fairly quickly (location wise). This game has officially been put in my "you fucking suck" pile.
Got to the end at Plane of Air and Plane of Hate saving souls.. gather some souls (who are the idiots of EQ as they seem to run right to the demons trying to bash their skulls in) and then jump into the portal back to Plane of Air to lead them there..
So far, so good; pretty much..
Unfortunately, by the time the half nekkid chic in Plane of Air tells me that I've got enough souls saved to go fight Innoruk.. I can't get back to the Plane of Hate to do so. The portal in Plane of Air isn't working (says to find another portal leading there) and the normal chat option of sending me back to the PoH from the girl isn't there either. Now I'm stuck in the Plane of Air and can't continue in the game.
Thx programming bug.
I've got saves but they're before that "find the seven nearly invisible curiosity items" quest that sucked. Bah.
Check please!

The curiosity part of the game sucked. I missed one and had to go through all of those damn dungeons a few times looking for it. I finally found the item in the city. Lame.Siji wrote: I've got saves but they're before that "find the seven nearly invisible curiosity items" quest that sucked. Bah.

I'll sell you my saved game at the start of Plane of Air for 10K PP!

I thought about doing that, but I don't have a SharkPort thingie with which to get the game save to my memory card.Winnow wrote:I'll sell you my saved game at the start of Plane of Air for 10K PP!
As for the curiosity quest, yeah, that one in the corner of the 'hidden' part of the city was the one I couldn't find either. Thanks GameFAQs for the tip on that one. BTW it seemed that 7 was the number of souls that needed saving for me.
