iPOD's *non replaceable* battery has a life of 18 months.
They played a recording of a conversation with Apple tech support naming the price to send it in and replace it at $250.

Then said guy went out and spraypainted my first line of this reply over every iPod poster he saw.

Apple has since changed the policy
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon

Makes me glad that my boss is cool enough to understand that when people buy a product and it fails under circumstances such as these, it's the manufacturers defect, and not the user's. Makes my life much easier and people love our product more for it.

$99 is still too much. That's worthy of a recall and quite possibly a class action lawsuit.

For the most part, laptop batteries are only warrantied for one year. It really all depends on how often it is used as to how long it will last. If you rely on the battery daily, you can bet you will only get good charges out of it for a year at the best. If you rarely use the battery, it could last you ~3 years or more.

*shrug* I've had my iPod since they first came out...it's one of the clunky 5 gig ones. Still works great - I have no complaints.
