The article can explain it better than I can.

Offering a 9 percent premium is not enough
I think that will be the end of it right there. Comcast has to convince a lot of Disney shareholders that their offer isn't a lowball attempt (in mergers/takeovers I have been involved with, admittedly only a handfull, I agree with the one analyst that mentioned 30%). People don't sell investments for a 9% return and even though a bunch of people are unhappy with Eisner, I have a hard time believing they will look at this offer seriously.

Wulf, they are looking at it seriously. Why, because they've been congregating the media all day today.

Disney is really having trouble especially since Pixar has motioned to pull out of their movie business (which is the only animated theater business Disney can seem to manage these days; Brother Bear anyone?) Hell, if it wasn't for Pirates kicking ass and taking names, this probably would have been leaked months ago.

If Disney Sells, it will sell for over 100 billion, not for 54.

It does show you what can happen to major companies when your CEO is in play. Everyone will take their shots.

Oh. Disney is not in trouble financially without Pixar. Not even close. Disney is the number one content provider in the world and they will replace Pixar and move on.

Their movie division might be struggling, but the company as a whole is one of the strongest giants out there and will always be so without cataclysmic change in not just the movie world, but also in consumer products and the world of theme parks.

Anyone here remeber the failed @Home ? This in my opinion is very similar (just on smaller scale)
TCI started and partially created @Home then the AT&T "merge" and they (AT&T) let @Home do what it wanted. People in @Home wanted the world of broadband to be all content driven. We all know how that ended up ... bankruptcy. The consumer (at least myself) really dont give a rats ass (pun intended) about content from our provider, at least internet ones) all we want is the connection to be stabe and fast.
With all the things in R/D with comcast the future looks very bright, I'm not sure about good it will be IF the Disney deal goes through. Some of the things on the way in are Video On Demand, Voice over IP, and very soon DVR's. All of this could be thrown into one box for the consumer. That is a LOT of things in one machine for people. Hell the ability alone to record video (Tivo like) is great , and Comcast will be the only one with a box to record HD (although it will take at least twice the space on the hard drive).
We will have to see how this pans out in the future. I know I wouldnt want a set of friggin Ears on my work van ~sigh~
Summary,

Content isnt everything, but it is a great deal of why people choose cable over dish.

ps , now if we could only get NFL Ticket away from Dish Network

I got my sattelite dish (DirecTV) because the content available on the dish was vastly superior to my local cable provider. I think what my local cable offers has improved since then. I haven't really looked into it though since I am happy with my dish for now and I get broadband internet through DSL.

WTF are you talking about? Cable sucks ass. I've had DirecTV for 7 years due to quality of picture and content and it's only gotten better each year.
