College Question
Just wondering, did any of you attend any of the following colleges:
University of Kentucky
University of Delaware
University of Indiana
University of Connecticut
Just wondering, I've been accepted to them all, just wondering if anyone of you can give some live experiences (not just watching basketball games) from campus life etc. I'm sick of reading all the crap on other websites, so I'm looking for some alumni if possible to post their feelings on these schools...
Thanks in advance.

Droz: What some advice?
Tom: Well, yeah.
Droz: Well, here's all you need to know: Classes, nothing before eleven. Beer, it's your best friend, you drink a lot. Women? You're a freshman, so it's pretty much out of the question. Will you have a car?
Tom: Uhh...no.
Droz: Someone on your floor will. Find them and make friends with them on the first day.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

According to this, Indiana-Bloomington is the best you can do on that list although Playboy doesn't think very highly of them:
----------
Playboy's Top 5 Party Schools are: 1. Arizona State University 2. California State University-Chico 3. Rollins University 4. Louisiana State University 5. West Virginia University, according to http://www.playboy.com
Topping the Princeton Review's list was Indiana University-Bloomington. IU officials are skeptical about their status as the nation's top party school, however. According to a USA Today report, the university said that they have toughened alcohol policies since the 1998 alcohol-related death of a student.
Although the Princeton Review credits IU as the top party school, the IU Hoosiers were nowhere to be found on Playboy's 2002 party school list, which was crowned by the Arizona State Sundevils.

Haha, ASU is a little far, I live in NJ, so i didn't want to go any farther west than Indiana. But my planned major is Computer Science, I have been having second thoughts, and Criminal Justice is my second choice.

Given my personal experience, I am shocked, yes shocked, that University of Texas at Austin is not on that list.Winnow wrote:Playboy's Top 5 Party Schools are: 1. Arizona State University 2. I am a senior at U of Delaware now.
The campus is beautiful. The university plunks a shitload of money (too much, some say) into upkeep. Newark is a tiny college town revolving around Main St. and there's a lot of partying.
There are a lot of interesting classes, esp. in the history department (my major). By and large, professors are accessible if you need any help. I can't comment on the CS dept or criminal justice, never taken any of those classes.
Dorms range from extremely nice to kinda blah. They're all different. East campus dorms have a great atmosphere. If the weather is nice, there are ALWAYS people outside and they have shit like bands and outdoor films there. If you go and live on campus, avoid the Pencader complex at all costs. It's literally falling apart and they're gonna be razing it in the next few years.

The real question is: what kind of guy are you? Are you a yuppy or a freak? Do you have the cizash or are you a poor peanut butter on crackers eating student?
Do you drink heavily? Do you do drugs? Do you live in a large city? Do you want a quality education or parties more?
I will say that if you own a J Crew catalog....Miami of Ohio. But the catalog is a requirement to get in. Always one of the top schools for education.....and back when I was there it was one of the top party schools. Not able to get to playboy to check and see if we ranked this year.
I can say that I have never met a UK graduate that was not a retard. Fuck UK.

A lot of Miami peeps are too concerned with the LA "See and be seen," attitude to really party. UF, with the new academic standards that Lombardi introduced after I got in
isn't even close to the party school it was a decade ago.

OMG DO NOT GO TO UCONN. Unless you play hoop. Or possibly football now that they went Division 1.Rivera Bladestrike wrote:Just wondering, did any of you attend any of the following colleges:

UConn is in the middle of cow country (Storrs) and the closest city is Willimantic, a bleak post-industrial ruin. Hartford absolutely sucks, the nightlife consists of maybe six decent clubs and the city pretty much shuts down after 6 PM.
UConn has been slowly sacrificing academics for athletics over the past 25 years. Many of their best faculty have left or retired leaving it basically a classic "jock mill" now.
There used to be lots of parties on campus especially in the "jungle" dorm area but those have declined over the past few years. I don't think the "jungle" even exists any longer. Springfest sucks now as well, due to way too many non students going to parties and raising hell/trashing apartments. Two years ago the State Police and National Guard were brought in after "students" (read: non students attending the on and off campus parties) started rioting during Springfest. Since then it hasn't been the same.
The campus is bleak and parking sucks. About 5 years ago the school restricted driving on most parts of campus grounds and never quite got around to building adequate parking facilities.
Disclaimer: I didn't attend UConn but many many friends and family over the past 20 years have and I've seen the things I refer to firsthand.
Re: College Question
I was finished with ASU long before this but the ASU student president was also involved in a Seymore Butts porn Video along with the rest of his fraternity. Parts of the movie were shot in the frat house which was located on campus. (Seymore Butts #17 if you're scouting out ASU!)Winnow wrote:

Good stuff although I can't stand fraternities!
haha I remember that...just like a year or 18 months ago, give or take.
I liked going to ASU. To walk through the campus is not to think party school, it is later that it all happens...some very good departments as well depending on what you are looking for. I know it isn't on the list, but it is a good school in spite (or because?) of the parties~

I'm not a yuppy or a freak, I'm athletic, I like to play rough and do sports and all, I play baseball at the HS, but I'm big into any full contact sports. I'm pretty lazy though when it comes to academics, I am intelligent and I have good common sense but as I said I'm lazy so my grades are just above average. I'm middle class, I like to have money on me at all times just in case I need it, I don't mind spending money at all if its good, usually I'm the guy that winds up paying for cheap bastard friends so I can just go out and do something. I don't do drugs, but I'm known for my drinking (I'm a tank). I live in the suburbs, I'd prefer to stay away from a big city, but I don't mind it. Frankly, I'd expect to get a decent education from any of the schools listed above, but yeah I definately want a social life and I'm a big party goer.Kilmoll the Sexy wrote:The real question is: what kind of guy are you? Sadly, I got rejected from Penn State though, so that really isn't happening.
As for Faedia, thanks for the information regarding life there, I went on a visit to Udel and I loved the campus, I thought it was beautiful and I loved how so many people were outside walking around and socializing. How are the fraternities, parties etc? I'm looking to possibily join a frat in my sophmore year, that is, if I like what I see in my freshman year.

Dude, sorry about the Penn State rejection. They don't always know good people.
You should apply again, but change your intended major to "Agriculteral Engineering". The intended major line plays a big role on acceptance and to what branches...BUT...of course you never have to actually go into that field. That's what I did cause I am a worryer...got in to main campus, switched to Architectural Engineering day 1 and never looked back. I would get calls once a week from the Ag E school, but I told them I changed my mind and they stopped calling. It aint no thing...so...re-apply!
And make up shit on the application...like the "Family members that went to PSU" part...get some names from Penn Staters and put them down as relatives....it all works...
Or, go to one of the schools you listed. You can't go wrong as long as the school is big enough...and a few you listed definitely are!

Indiana gave me a scholarship now, so thats a big plus, considering the schools all cost like 25 grand a year...

It's all about the in-state costs. Seriously though, it's not gonna matter what other people think about the place. It boils down to what you and only you think.
Speaking from experience, fall 2000 I started going to college at Case Western Reserve University, thought that it was the best place ever. Made some friends, had some actually decent classes. Then sophomore year struck, I had to declare my major. Had 10 students in my undergrad department, 15 professors, and about oh, 50 grad students. Freshman year the exposure I had to my intended major was minimal, when I got into the major, I found out just how much the students seemed to be ignored. The environment of the place wasn't bad for my friends, but it wasn't for me, I ended up transfering out to OSU midway through my junior year.
No matter what people say about the campus life, its important to find out for yourself. Try to go on visits to every school, try to get a chance to attend a class or 2 on the visit, and spend the night. Don't rely on others to make your decision, and don't be afraid to consider changing your mind either if you want to transfer out. Far better to be struggling someplace you like, then struggling somewhere that you hate.

I have a lot of friends at Indiana and they all seem to like it alright. Nice campus, decent people, ok party scene.
Kentucky . . . well, what can you say about Kentucky. Of the last eleven kids I know that went to Kentucky 9 dropped out after freshman year because of academic reasons. Not saying its the norm, but thats been the trend for kids attending UK from my highschool--just something to think about.

ps. UNC is teh own
