Going to be heading to another massive networked HALO all-nighter, we'll be playing 16-man, most likely sticking to blood gulch and sidewinder.
Right now my blood-gulch strat is to grab a ghost and circle enemy portal while a friend with a snipe covers me...aside from that im fairly useless in mass games on that map...sidewinder is normally just running portals with a shotgun/snipe and picking off guys making runs down the center or tunnel side, but this isn't very effective either...

I was wondering if any of you who play the game have any particularily nasty tricks/capture-routes for either map. IF so, please share. :P

The only real strats I ever used in playing networked Halo revolved around vehicles for the most part, espcially on those two maps.

For Blood Gulch the most effective plan my team ever came up with was to grab every vehicle at our base, tank, warthog, one (two?) ghosts and stash them in the far back corner of the base while sending ever other player to grab everyone of the other teams vehicles and place them in the same area. First off this gurantees an equal footing for both teams, however if you dont care for equality you can stick both tanks right in front of your base covering opposite fields of fire and pretty much keep a lockdown on anyone getting through.

A much simpler plan is the somewhat obvious tossing of three people in a warthog and charging the other teams base, the passenger jumps out and runs in to grab the flag while the other two circle the base trying to draw everyones attention. Than the guy with the flag can either hop back on or try and hightail it on foot. If your on the recieving end of something like this you can try to prevent it by driving a warthog into both lower entrances to your base and either wedge them in the doorways or on both sides of the flag to slow down someone trying to capture the flag. Its cheap but it can turn the tide if your reeling on defense.

For Sidewinder the most effective flag capture plan I came up with required a ghost and two people. First off have one guy hide nearby but outside the other teams base, the second guy jumps in a ghost and goes into the bottom of the central hill/base area and gets the overshield and invis. Than you just drive the ghost outside the other teams base and grab the flag and take the portals one by one back to beside your base. Meanwhile the first guy jumps on the ghost as soon as you grab the flag and starts driving all around the center of the map, because you cant tell if someone has a flag while on a ghost hopefully everyone on the other team tries to kill him and forgets about the porters. Generally this will only work for one or two captures before the other team catches on however =/

I usually prefer the other game types than FFA and CTF but with 16 players there are not quite as many options. I did play a 12 person FFA on Wizard I think it was, the small dark circular map with a second exposed level you can port too; it was pretty insane...

small circular is derrelict, and it was awesome, we had a 5point CTF game on sidewinder that lasted just over 5 hours....and the warthog didn't work on blood gulch, one of the guys on the other team is a tank god and they assigned 3 people just to protect him and his tank...so we couldn't even take it from him so we resorted to fast rocket runs on him....the best was 16man oddball on Hang 'em High, it was incredible...just massive death, i was prolly the 6-8th best player there and i racked up 117 kills in the 8 min game...anyone who likes FPSes needs to play networked HALO, it is an experience like nothing else...

Yeah, multiplayer Halo really changes the game a lot in my opinion. I used to play 8-12 player games every couple of weeks with a bunch of my friends and it was a ton of fun. Even some people that never enjoyed the single player aspect had fun when competing against other players.

Derelict was the one I was thinking of, that map is insane when you get 8+ people on it, constant gibfest. Same with Hang 'Em High really but one you can get a better tactical advantage by taking one of the two towers and trying to hold it or snipe from it.

I think the best Halo game I ever played was a CTF on Sidewinder that went for about 2 1/2 hours. The crazy part is that halfway through both sides had two captures each and than we both captured the other teams flag at the same time so it turned into a massive mouse hunt. Ended with me holding their flag and trying to sneak down to pick up an invis and overshield when one guy on foot and one on a ghost came down and found me; I managed to kill the guy on foot with a shotgun and than ducked under the ghost when he tried to run me over and tagged him in the back. Great part was the guy on the ghost had the flag so it turned out it ended the game.

By the way I dont know if you tried it on that Blood Gulch CTF game, but its possible to snipe the driver of a tank when they are inside, somewhat difficult but possible. Worth trying instead of suicide rocket launcher runs.

Halo is the most entertaining multiplayer FPS I've played to date. When is Halo2 due out for the PC?

if you stand still long enough to zoom the rifle in our 8v8 games you were dead 3 times over :( it was insane, 5 of the guys i play with can consistently get the 3-shot with the pistol on anyone within about 50-75ft of them (half way across derelict), i just need to get better at avoiding those 5 guys
