necros: which pet has better dps?

No holds barred discussion. Someone train you and steal your rare spawn? Let everyone know all about it! (Not for the faint of heart!)

necros: which pet has better dps?

Post by kyoukan »

I'm to lazy to parse damage logs myself, but which pet is better for pure damage, the 53 rogue or the 56 monk? I have both now and the 56 one is probably a few levels higher yes? does it have a higher average damage than the 56 one to compensate for the crappy special?

When Leeroie played his necro with my SK, he would put the rogue on backstab detail for when I was tanking. When he solod he used the monk. I would imagine the rog had more dps if you have a tank so it ccan bs.

If you can get the 53 pet to get the back consistantly then it is by far the higher dps. The monk one is better suited for a group if you have problems with placement. Believe it or not, the 49 one is still your best tank till you upgrade to spec.

edit: At least it was over a year ago when I put my necro on the shelf.

It's been a couple of years since I've fought using any of the lower pets, but I'm not aware of any major changes to them. As Morgrym said, it's situational. If you can consistently have your pet on the mob's back, then the 53 pet will outdamage the monk pet. 56 monk pet will have better DPS in general though. Keeping the rogue on a mob's back is easy if you're fear/aggro kiting. In a group, though, it's a pain to reposition your pet constantly, and you will sacrifice DPS by moving it around a lot.

Also, the 49 pet does make the best tank prior to Emmisarry of Thule (or Legacy of Zek if you choose to skip EoT like many people are doing these days).

At 59 you get Emissary of Thule, which can be hard to find and is still a little pricey for many people. Legacy of Zek is the 61 pet and as an ethereal parchment spell, it can be found for virtually nothing. People planning to blow through 59 and 60 ASAP often choose to skip EoT and tough out the 2 levels with lesser pets. Given how fast one can blow through 59 & 60 now, I can understand why some people are choosing to do this.

Personally, I'd get EoT if you're able to, but at the same time I wouldn't invest a ton of energy into doing so.

edit:

A friend just pointed out that I'm a little out of date on pricing.. EoT has fallen to under 1k pp (don't know about your server, but should be similar) within the last few months, so there's not much reason to skip it now.

I'd use 53 pet and scream at the tank if they're too retarded to give it the back.

the reason I asked is because I bought emissary of thule for 50 plat and I routinely see it for sale in bazaar for 50-100 plat.

spells are all fucked up in this game now. I wanted to buy demi-lich but I've never seen it for under 10,000 plat. I bought arch lich for 5 plat. That was pretty cheap, but I see it all the time for 100 plat. the developers should put older spells into an easier rotation when new expansions come out. there's a few spells that only drop off off juggernauts and reets that I need but no one ever really goes to sebilis anymore. I went last night with some friends and managed to get sedulous subversion but I don't want to drag them back just for another spell that I'll get an upgrade for next week. they did upgrade the spell drops on juggernauts (most drop two spells now), but shit, put them on vendors or something.

augmentation of death is the worst. who fucking goes to plane of growth anymore? obviously no one, because the only copy of that spell I've seen for sale is the same asshole every time who's selling it for 10k. Fuck that; I bought rune of death for 75 plat, but I won't be able to use it until I'm level 62 or 63 or whatever.

I think planes of power pretty much ruined this game. there's no real reason to go anywhere else other than planes for experience passed level 55 or whatever. All the cities are abandoned ghost towns and everyone just gets bound in plane of knowledge at level one and that's it. It's pretty moronic to have a bunch of level 1-20 newbis scampering around extra planar realities and ignoring cities. Faction is meaningless. I'm ranting.

From what I understand, one of the recent zone revamps made the words needed to research EoT much more common and drove down the price pretty fast. It's still a rare drop though (juggs/reets, dragons, etc.). I haven't paid any attention to the prices of most spells in so long that I didn't realize the change.

Demi lich is still nice to get even if it's a pain to find. It's also a rare-drop Kunark spell as opposed to arch lich which is a common Velious drop. From what I can tell, research hasn't driven down the price too much yet because words of awareness is still relatively uncommon. Grab it if you can, because even after arch lich it's still nice to have if you want / need to use a horse (can't in spectre form).

For all of the hard to find 60 & lower spells, don't forget to keep an eye out for the research components. It's often easier to scrounge up ingredients than to find the actual spell. If you haven't raised your own research, find someone that'll do the combines for you. Someone willing to help shouldn't be too hard to find. PoM, Veksar and some of the other new / newly revamped zones are a great source for research components (not to mention loot and exp).

I agree entirely, Kyou.

I tried to make a comeback a few months ago, but really, PoP seems to have fucked over everything I liked about the game.

Not that it's not a good game anymore, just not one that I have any interest in playing. I actually tried to get re-addicted and failed.
