Arnie still looks human.. not so sure about Ronnie.

I'd be interested to know what the comparative strenght would be w/ all that extra musculature too..

Ronnie is superstrong! If he didnt compete in bodybuilding im sure he could change career to powerlifting.

Arnold was no slouch either!

But it is interesting to see what path the bodybuilding-judges have taken as well as human progress.

Compare Arnolds and Ronnies stomach and legs for example.

They use OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS more GH now than before as well.

They use much more Growth Hormones these days and other supps as well, so you could say that Arnie looked cleaner! :)

Back in the day, the judges looked for the Y-form(wide back, big shoulders, thin waist),
now its the X-form(Back,Shoulders + Big legs).

Thats what people call him!

Freak of Nature, Ronnie is Out of this world!

Who will against the superfreak Ronnie?

Hopefully the judges will go for a more symmetrical look a la Frank Zane in the future, but it will never happen!

If we compare the Mr Olympias from the past up until now, you will notice that they weigh more and more(new technology, new trainingmethods, new supplements, new vitamin S) and grow bigger and bigger.

Compare the bodybuilding contests in the 60's with Reg Park and Steve Reeves with those we have now!

What will happen in 15-20 years? If the evolution will continue in the same spirit, we will have Hippos on the stage! :D

Who knows..

Frank Zane was great in his prime!

Frank Zane was a Bodybuilder from the Arnold-era.

He is IMO one of the best bodybuilders ever, a very healthy look compared to the mass monsters of today.

Muscularity and Symmetry at its finest IMO!

Not as big as the Freakazoids we have now! :)

Zane is also known for his trademark pose, the "Vacuum"-pose

Comparing this picture you can see how it went from the 70's(Zane) to present day(Rühl).

Ah yes, the Vacuum pose! Not many builders can do this one these days due to distended bellies by too much Growth Hormone use!

Arnold, imho, had arms and espicially biceps that will be competetive in any era. I never thought his back was bad either, just seemed small compared to Columbo's. Like you said, it's a bit apples and oranges to compare the X shape of today to the Y shape of yesterday, but the comparison just makes Arnolds leg look small. Of course, i don't think his quads were ever considered his strength.

And, just for the record, the best of the past era of bodybuilders wasn't Zane, it was Bertil Fox! Although, Zane probably had some of the best cuts and symmetry ever.

looks like if ronnie moved his leg wrong, he'd crush his nuts, whatever nuts he has left that is.

Kwon, got any pics of Tom Platz for additional comparison? He was one of the best bodybuilders of the late 70s and 80s. He had the best leg development of the "old school" guys.

I was always partial to Lee Haney, easy to say considering he won the Olympia title 8 times. Incredible muscle size without so much of the freakish qualities of the GH and S-Kings of today (yes I realize he prob did both).

Haney was great! Wide lats and still a thin waist, a hard combo to do these days it seems!

Those who want the mass these days get the gut / wide waist in a package-deal due to all the GH.

There are exceptions though, Dexter Jackson and Flex Wheeler!

Looks like Zane didn't sacrifice his dick for his muscles like the other guys did. I thought we lifted weights so we could impress the chicks and get laid. What good is all that muscle if you can't fuck?

Zane looks like he could have got his muscle by hard work, training, and diet (although I am not nieve enough to believe that). The other muscleheads (Platz and Ruhl) look like they raided the Costco distribution warehouse and consumed all the GH and vit-S they could. Morally I have no problem with them doing that, but its obvious that they had LOTS of chemical help to get there.

They are going to be 'roid-raged with the fact that their man-boobs will develop, their testicles will shrink and they will develop more feminine characteristics as they live on past competition or if they try to stop the body altering substances.

Damn Platz, I haven't seen a pic of him in years, his legs were freakin' huge for the late 80s early 90s.

Zane is well proportioned but as I may have said before Bob Paris was always the guy with perfect symmetry IMO.

I think I like Zane's proportions better, but damn Paris definatly has the symmatry down, especially in the abs.

The Judge's Call! As always... If the judges would give the no 1. spot to a smaller fella, many would aim for symmetry more than mass.

Ronster has gone beyond what's "humanly" possible these days! I wonder how much more mass he will add for this years Mr.Olympia!

And with all the technology we have this day and the progression of evolution in the scene...what will happen in 100 years? Will 1000lbs be the standardweight? :D
