It was a transporter mishap. Basically, Scotty beamed him up and there was some energy field in the beam path. The result was TWO Adexes. One was the "good" (sissy,fluffy) side of Adex and the other was the heartless "evil" Adex. I can't figure out which is which though

Adex hasn't expressed any outrage, concern, bemusement, or emotion of any sort at the appearance of his twin, so I am leaning toward agreeing with you...
