well that's not a very well constructed counterargument now is it? ;)

Here's a good counter-argument (which I don't agree with but...):

Tom Bombadil was critical to the story because he was a mechanism to show the depth and age of the world of middle-earth as well as the the place that the ring/hobbits/men/elves had within that world.

But like I said, I don't agree. Tom Bombadil was fine for the book, but his presence/character did not lend itself to the newer medium of film.

One thing I'm curious about. Where in the books does Arwen grant Frodo her 'grace'? I know where in the movie, but my recollection is that there were maybe 2-3 sentences involving her in the FotR book, and then a couple of paragraphs in the appendix. Am I forgetting something?
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

She doesn't as I recall...its explicated by someone in a narrative as I recall...so we don't see it so much as hear about it....I'll find the passage in a bit...It should be in ROTK...

Nerp she actually says it after the wedding...before Frodo leaves Minas Tirith...

Book VI Chapter VI

But the Queen Arwen said: 'A gift I will give you. For I am the daughter of Elrond. I shall not go with him now when he departs to the Havens; for mine is the choice of Luthien, and as she so I have chosen, both the sweet and the bitter. But in my stead you shall go, Ring-bearer, when the time comes, and if you then desire it. If your hurts grieve you still and the memory of your burden is heavy, then you may pass into the West, until all your wounds and weariness are healed. But wear this now in memory of Elfstone and Evenstar with whom your life has been woven!'

The Saracens/Al-Quaida controlling the Olliphants scene was the best along with any screentime for the Trolls!

WitchKing roxxored too but should have had more screentime.

Removing Tom Bombadil was a major mistake, and one that has thoroughly annoyed me (along with the Arwen role).

Yes the movies clearly sucked because of this terrible oversight :P

Honestly, I'd have given screen time to Bill the Pony before giving it to Bombafuck.

They should have removed the last 20 mins of sobbing and hugging hobbits and given the WitchKing his own 30 mins of screentime!

Where you'd see him crush Infantry from Gondor and Cavalry from Rohan! And punting some Hobbitses as well!

WitchKing is teh win!

What about teh white wizard?

I will Break him! (Ivan Drago-Style)

yeah, i kinda thought out my own ending for the movie, all starting with teh WT turning and slicing merry in half and then proceeding to kill eowyn and then gandalf in some kickass way i haven't totally thought out, then the crazy crap that shot up from minas morgul connects with minas tirith, covers it and then everyone good left atrophies and is slaughtered....or something to that extent, maybe the WT could control the armies of the dead since he was one of the human kings angmar...

I was quite impressed when Eowyn pWNED the witchking's mount. But yea, I would have liked to see him bust out that morningstar on some infantry. It was dirrrrrty.

I still wish Rosie Cotton didn't remind me of a hobbit milf or something :(
she looks way too old

rosie was just as fucking creepy as sam was, good match...i hope they both get slaughtered by a random balrog....oh, and adding gothmog to the battle at minas tirith would have been total pwn too...too bad he got killed back in the 3rd or 4th age....psshh, throw enough balrogs at anything and evil will win =P

No shit, that would be great. Witchking of Angmar is one of the ultimates. They need to do an epic of the Silmarillion to show how so much Tolkien Lore is about the fall of the Elves

It was a nice deathsequence for teh WitchKing though, but i would have wanted to see him use that morning-star decimating the Gondor/Rohan forces to 30 % before seeing his death!

I could have accepted his death-scene if let's say Witchking had to maul through some thousand troops first, destroying them in different manners before he reached Eowyn.

Perhaps he has more screen-time in Extended!

Ill get that one for sure!

i could probably even have settled to see him "break" gandalf....i mean seriously....what more did gandalf do in that battle except save some assling's ass? teh white guy was expendable at that point IMO :D

PS. we need an evil LOTR character appreciation thread or something, that or list your favorite top 3 evil LOTR chars...or even both :o

Yeah I have Glamdring too. Honestly you could seriously fuck someone up with either, though the Witch King Claidhmore is a bit unwieldy for indoor use :)

A mate of mine got Anduril for xmas from his wife. Only 5000 made and all ready sold out worldwide. Bastard ><

Salis wrote:Finally got to see it, and I think it was spectacular. I'm glad they did (more than) justice to the finale of Ride of the Rohirrim, it's my favourite part of the book and in the movie the image of all those riders is just inspiring! I also thought the chanting orc army was stunning. And Grond making an appearance! And Minas Morgul. I could go on for a while ;)

Only part I did kind of miss was the part where Aragorn unfurls Arwens banner from the Corsair fleet, and using the halls of the dead as the tie in. Knights of Dol Amroth didn't get to make an appearance I guess!
That was not Grond... Grond was a mace and not a flail.. and would probably be much bigger since big daddy Morgoth used to wield it.

Asheran and I had the chance to see it on imax, and omg. it was awesome. Even though it was on the 35mm film it still looked really great on that imax screen and the 12000w sound system just added that much more excitement to it :D
If buttered toast always lands buttered side down, and cats always land on their feet, what would happen if you taped a piece of buttered toast to the back of a cat, butter side up and gingerly tossed the cat out of the window?

He didnt say Grond was the flail. He is right about Grond being in the movie, its the huge battering ram with flaming eyes/nose/mouth.
