I need the PERFECT Example of each of these types of music, if you can think of something good PLEASE! post it

Its for my psychology report

Ive come up with:

rock : The hives - die alright
rap : p diddy(yea p diddy) - Victory
and the rest i come up with a big blankzorz =/

First of all, this belongs in the music forum.

Second, I'll try to help with a few:

Rock: Black Dog - Led Zeppelin.

Do not use the fucking Hives. To paraphrase from the movie PCU, "Believe it or not Clatis there was in fact music before 1998."

Rap:
Get Em Up - Ice Cube

My rap knowledge is limited, but that's what I'd go with.

Techno... here are a few I'd recommend:
Aria - DJ Tiësto
Sandstorm - Darude
Keep Hope Alive - The Crystal Method (music teachers love this song)
Walhalla - DJ Tiësto
Nothing But You - Paul Van Dyk

Too many to list, but those are great songs.

For classical, I'd go probably go with Bach, but that's just me. Country I have no idea but you're probably better off going with something older than something new (Friends in Low Places by Garth Brooks is pretty decent), and Gospel, I have no idea.

Country = dueling banjos - charlie daniels, don't take the girl - tim mcgraw, high cotton - alabama, desperado - clint black, the river - garth brooks.

Country covers a lot of ground so I am not too sure what you are looking for but those are some that stand out in my mind. Huge country fan.

I am not in any way a country fan but there is one song that will always make me happy when I am getting drunk with friends and that is David Allen Cole's "You never even call me by my name". It even says that he fixed it to make the perfect country song.

I like Thrill Kill Kult a lot, but I'm not sure I'd call them Techno per se. They're kind of in a class by themselves with probably KMFDM. Some people would call them industrial. /shrug

I can think of three great choices of song that say "rock and roll":

Elton John - 'Saturday Night's All Right for Fighting'
Meat Loaf - 'Paradise by the Dashboard Lights'
Bruce Springsteen - 'Rosalita'

For country - can't go wrong with Tammy Wynette, 'Stand by Your Man'

Dont know rap that well, but was thinking 'Fight the Power' as well.

Classical - anything by Beethoven works. (BTW, Bach was from the Baroque era)

Gospell, Techo - I couldnt say, really

No blues or jazz, but you have techno? /shrug

There are no perfect songs for each genre.

Rock? That covers such a wide range you can't possibly represent it with a single song. If you want to do each genre justice, you'll have to put together a supermix for each type the likes human ears have never heard before. Either that or break it down by decade.

You could choose something like the Beatles for the 60's as they are agruably the most popular band ever in rock but they'll sound nothing like Nirvana of the 80's or Led Zepelin of the 70's.

Can't be done with one song.

You can't. Music is a diverse artform, and sub-genres abound most prolifically - the ones you listed are woefully imprecise. The best you can hope for is an approximation or a somewhat representative example, something that shows typical traits.

Rock - Are you thinking early Rock'N'Roll? Rock-a-billy? Late 60s Beat or Acid Rock? Early 70s "hard" rock, or metal? I'd go with Elvis (That's alright, Mama) or early Beatles (Twist and Shout or She Loves You) for examples as to how it all began and grew big, Zeppelin if you want to look at how it evolved.

Rap - Sugar Hill Gang is where it "started" or at least came in off the streets with Rapper's Delight, check out Kool Herc or Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. Afrika Bambaataa is also a good place to start.

Country - Look at the greats (Tammy Wynette for one) or look for good songs such as George Jones' "She Thinks I Still Care".

Classical - heh, not even going to touch this. Saying "classical" is like asking us to come up with the perfect example of rhythmic music without speciyfing it further.

Gospel - Mahalia Jackson is your friend.

Techno - Again, limited. "Techno" covers a hell of a lot of ground...details, man!

Yeah...Amazing Grace isn't really Gospel...Its a religious song but predates what is called Gospel by quite a few centuries...Though there are definitely Gospel recordings of Amazing Grace...Gospel is more about the interpretation than the structure or content isn't it...

Are you guys just pulling out your favorite bands when your talking about the techno one, or taking songs that youi read from the backside of "The best of" album covers...

If you want to go back to the old roots of techno/synth.. get something by kraftwerk.. ( although they are pretty synthy ) or the old techno anthem "Celebration generation" by westbam.. the title and the tune is a perfect example about what the culture the music and the people are about.

Classical - I like a song called Kanon by Vivaldi....pretty sure thats the name of the song.

Jazz - I think the song is called Take Five by Dave Brubeck.

They kinda set the stage for both genre's. I chose delicate terror for the sound, but yah any of their stuff could go either way. I saw them back over a year ago in SF (DNA Lounge), one of the best shows I have ever seen. Buzz is unreal... simply unreal.

I don't really know too much about various types of music but if you're trying to write a report, it's best to keep things as recognizable as possible. For classical that would be something by Mozart, his "hooks" are so pervasive, it's hard to mistaken them for anyone else. For rock I would suggest Hayley's ACDC selection or any number of Rolling Stones' songs( Satisfaction is a good start).

I couldn't tell you about any of the other genre's specifically but I imagine you could find something worthwhile from either Clint Black, Hank WIlliams or Wille Nelson in country.

Country is very tough (just like most other genres) as there are really 2 different types of country (became famous with Blues Brothers when they walk into the country bar and they say - we have both types "Country and Western"

I'd classify the Jonny Cash's of the world in the "western" category, where as most of the new george strait's, garth brooks, brooks & dunn and others of the world are more "country".

For the original founding of country music, go with the wester - any of the Jonny Cash songs mentioned above (or most willie nelson for that matter) will work.

For the current most popular version of country -

Garth Brooks - I could name a ton, but "The River", "Thunder Rolls", and "Friends in low places" come to mind first.

Ton of other artists, but Garth has been the most influential over the past 10 years - so I lean towards him (although he is no where near my favorite country artist - I don't believe you were going for "favorites" here).
