2003 - Was it a good year

Post by Tyek »

This was the weirdest year of my life. I don't know that it was good or bad, just weird.

I was laid off from work, along with many others, despite being in the highest sales territory. I went to work somewhere I hated, then a company I used to work for hired me at a substantial increase.

We were evacuated for 2 days during the california fires, my parents ended up living with us for 2 weeks after being evacuated from the same fires. They say having tile roofs and stucco houses saved us from losing ours and a shift in the wind spared my parents house, but took out some 200+ houses close to theirs.

My sis in laws neighbor's house was destroyed when a plane crashed into it.

I was audited by the IRS and got back an additional 1000 dollars the crappy tax guy my brother had recommended missed.

This weekend I pulled the dumbshit of the week move. We were going to my parents cabin in the mountains and decided to try driving up Waterman Canyon to see where the fire that almost cost us our house started. We drove through the canyon at 1:30 and at about 1:45 the canyon flooded, taking out a campsite, several houses and some of the cars that were driving along the road. 7 people are dead and 7 missing.

http://apnews1.iwon.com//article/200312 ... e&SEC=news

So that was my year in a weird nutshell. I hope you all had agreat year and thanks for keeping me entertained.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon

I'd say good, you got $1000 back, higher salary, and your houses were spared.

My 2003 has been extrodinarily bad.

My wife has an affiar and has a kid out of it, of which generates about $2,000 in medical bills that I am responsible for. She still writes checks like it comes out of the faucet, even though the balance before hand was red, causing me even more problems.

She wants a divorce (frankly, so do I) yet she isn't getting off of her ass to move out and still wants to live off of the money she's leeching from me.

I've been more of a father to the kid than she even is a mother, much less the sperm doner -- which she calls the father over me.

I've had health problems all year long due to the excess stess this has had on me.

She almost had one place lined up in a low income housing area thinking that she has no income, that's low .. she didn't put those two brain cells together to realize that they'd be judging it based on my income.

I can't wait for this new year to start after she moves out and lets me start to live my own fricking life again.

2003 was hands down the worse year of my life. My attitude? It was probably the only bad year in my life though and "bad" aside, there were a couple of highpoints I'll always remember. Everyone has a crappy year once, maybe twice. Now that it is over I am quickly getting back to the annoyingly happy me and dragging my family along whether they like it or not! :)

2 big highlights and 1 big lowlight I guess.
Highlight 1: Baby Girl on January 5th 2003
Highlight 2: Closing on a new house tomorrow.
Lowlight: Victim of downsizing in April and forced to be an IT contract worker to make ends meet until I can nail down a real job.

Hey, at least there are still 3 more days of 2003 and there could still be more highlights.

2003 was nothing if not eventful for me.

I got laid off from my multimedia job in 2002, and 2003 saw me do even better as an independent contractor. Freelance work left me with more money, and more free time.

I have used the free time to go back and augment my useless psych degree with pre-requisite classes to apply to medical school. I have been studying hard and will take the MCAT in April.

2003 saw me get engaged to the most wonderful woman ever. She's beautiful, compassionate, smart, has good taste in music and movies...everything I could hope for.

2003 saw me expanding my horizons...I learned how to rebuild my Vespa engine all by myself. I learned all sorts of biology and organic chemistry. I learned how to incorporate XML and a database into Flash.

All in all, a pretty good year, I suppose.

Highlights:
Meeting the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with.
Meeting a ton of fucked up nutcases in Vegas and Atlanta.

Low points:
Who cares? The highlights more than make up for them.

High points:

- Finally meeting some of the crazy people with whom I played EQ (and watching Drolgin get his fingernails painted).
- Switching from contract back to staff.
- Going back to school to finish my BS.
- Finding out that my close friends really are there when all hell breaks loose and life loses its sparkle.
- Meeting someone special, wherever it goes.

Low points:

Rehashing them won't make 'em any different. Suffice to say, 2003 was probably the most difficult year I've ever experienced. Looking back, it was painful for more than just myself, but also for many people I care about. In the end, all we can do is our best, play the cards we're dealt, and keep running toward that imaginary line of December 31st.

This year, I met the man I want to spend the rest of my life with. The year has been pretty difficult for me, but overall the happiness of the year has outweighed the hardships.

Pretty lousy overall:

Got downsized and am still looking

had to pull out of a home purchase because of it

Father had to have 4 bypasses, valve implanted, and pacemaker put in.

Mother just started to undergo chemo because she didn't get the hysterectomy done soon enough

in-laws begin to really show their true colors and cause undue stress to the wife and I

In 2004:

get back into manhattan doing somthing I like for a change

get a better house than the one we backed out of

my father will recover fully

Mother will have beaten her cancer

my wife will ignore her jackass in-laws so we can do what's best for the two of us and not them

It's a good year for me, getting pregnant caught me a little offguard but I should've really expected it if the history repeats itself cliche is true. There's 8 years difference between my brother and me and there will be 7.5 year difference between my kids.
Looking forward to 2004.

Low points:

2) Doing pretty well professionally even though (2) above is largely because of it.
3) Finding and successfully wooing a woman so fantastic I have to pinch myself every single day :)

2003 will be remembered as a good one for me. I finally got free of an abusive, demeaning relationship and am finally able to live the life I want, which is something I wanted for so long.

2004 looks to be promising, I'm finally reentering school and will be working towards my b.a. in business admn/econ, really love that I'm able to finally finish something I started so long ago.

Anyways, cheers and happy new years to all :)

The Good: Let's see, I moved home to the Keys, and I cannot say how nice it is to be back. I got a job with the school board, which also kicks ass. I found a really nice apartment, my neice has already been accepted to two colleges, and we're THIS close to getting Grandma to leave the frozen hinterlands of PA to join us here in paradise.

The Bad: My younger nephew is getting better than me at most video games. He fucking schools me regularly in SSX3.

2003 gets a big "KICK ASS!" in my book.

2004 is off to a rocky start. My head still hurts, and it's 10 PM. I think I need a new liver.

2003 was the worst year of my life...and it still wasn't that bad! It's all attitude or maybe I've just had a good life.
Peter Gibbons: So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life.
Dr. Swanson: What about today? Is today the worst day of your life?
Peter Gibbons: Yeah.
Dr. Swanson: Wow, that's messed up!
The snafu that made 2003 the worst year of my life is over so 2004 is looking good : )

Am I allowed to say that Teh Return of teh King was the highlight of my 2003?

Lame year.. Good was there, but the bad outweighed it quite a bit.
