Nvidia TV Out

Back when EQ announced it was moving to the new character models, I upgraded to the best video card on the block = the uber Geforce 3 (pre-Ti). Yes, OK, you can stop laughing.

I never used the vaunted TV-out until today, however. As you have no doubt guessed, it's not working. Perhaps you have experience with the same thing and can offer me some advice.

I am using an adapter that came with the card to change the TV-out from the Nvidia to S-video, which I've plugged into my Sony Wega. I'm using the Nview software that's part of the most recent Nvidia driver package. When I attempt to switch to the TV (which is set to Video 1) the screen flashes and then it looks like a scrambled cable signal, except the glimpses don't look anything like my desktop. I've tried it with different resolutions and color settings to no avail.

I want to play DVDs on my computer and watch them on this TV. I'm too cheap to buy another DVD player.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I am by no means an expert but I I have been playing with the VIVO features on my ti 4600 lately. There is a special driver I had to install to get it to work right. It was a WDM driver that came on the original driver disk. Once that installed then my system found all sorts of new hardware devices that were related to my video card. XP wouldn't install those pieces automatically though.

Don't they throw free dvd players now at you when you walk in to best buy and that?

My guess would be to try switching your desktop to 640x480x16@60hz and then try the tv out. Now I'm not saying it should have an impact, buti t's something worth trying.

Have you emailed nvidia asking them if they know of any issues like that? Also have you tried uninstalling and re-installing your drivers?

Have you tried checking all of your other video sources on your TV? Perhaps you aren't plugged into the Video 1 input.

They actually had one with a Video OUT? I thought I only remembered things like S-Video out and Video IN, as in watching TV on your computer. I might have missed that card though. I remember seeing it when I was looking to replace one of my WinTV cards in order to get the one with AM/FM radio and the remote.

The Gainward ti 4600 can input and output video. I am still having trouble with the sound though. I have an old junkie vcr with the yellow/white output plugs and the video plays very nicely on the computer. If I could get the sound to work as well then I would be set.
