Freemasonry

Post by Voronwë »

i overheard 2 people in the cube next to me talking about freemasonry (they are both members of different lodges) and it peaked my curiosity.

i mean seriously, in reality what the fuck is the point of that orginazation other than to get together in a men's only room to smoke and drink?

Freemason's like to sit around and reflect upon their whiteness while they pretend they actually do anything important.

It's like fight club only the members aren't such whiny pussies.

Freemasons weild a tremendous amount of power in the USA, especially in the south. The order itself is very similar to the old Rosecrution order (which was just an evolution of the Templar Order). On the back of your one dollar bills is a masonic symbol. If you really want to hear me drone on about the particulars I will, but simply put it was a guilded order (masons) that followed their own brand of religion, very white, male dominated, mystic catholic based religion. I could (and have) write a few hundred pages on Freemasons, but I will spare you all the boring details.

Well if they where just freemasons general members they not a lot to bother with.
If they start to talk about A:.A:. or a new dawn rising, suddenly have strange tatoos or get a huge intrest in the Teutonic Knights change cube.

Freemasons have alwys been one of the more important NGPOs ( Non Govermental Pressure Organization) in US and their importance in US domestic politics should not be underestimated.

Freemasonry in the United States is a fraternal, philanthropic order based upon the tenants of fellowship and service. It has both social and charitable functions and should not be viewed solely as one or the other.

If you are interested in Masonry quite simply ask a Mason. They will be glad to talk to you and answer your questions.

Wow. Tinfoil hats, anyone?

Nah, freemasonry is nothing sinister. Nor is it particularly influential anymore.

I'm not a mason myself, and have no real interest in being such, but I have been around lots of them, and been in some of the secret lodges, and whatnot. It always amuses me when people ascribe anything sinsiter to such an innocuous organization. My grandfather was Past Master at the Ft. Worth lodge in the 60's....he's still around and regularly confers degrees.

The only premise of freemasonry is to be sort of a social network to help people work through their issues, find some solidarity, and be try to be better people for it - sort of like a big, old support group. They use imagery from the Old Testament and stories of King Solomon as metaphors in their work. The name "mason" itself is a metaphor, as they seek to "build a better man."

Masons can be any religion, and they all respect each other's religious differences. The only religious stipulation is that you must believe in a higher power. Other than that, there is no religious discrimination at all - they really try to keep that a private matter for their members. Masons have been Catholic, Protestant, Mormon (the Mormon church actually even borrows a lot from masonry), Buddhist. They really don't care as long as you acknowledge a supreme being. Aleister Crowley was even a mason, though this was when he was a practicing Catholic - before he became the "most evil man that ever lived."

It is also a bit of a...well...not a falsity exactly, but more of a selective interpretation to say that women are not allowed in freemasonry. The masonic lodge itself as most people know it is all male, but there is a sister lodge called Eastern Star that is all female. Think of it like a fraternity and their sister sorority. They are equivalent, and do many functions together.

In the old days, before TV, internet, phone, radio and the like, the lodge was very powerful and wielded a lot of influence. This is because it served as a very important social base in society at the time. It was a place to meet people, to exchange news and gossip, etc. Nothing really sinister went on, just...well...normal things that we take for granted these days. The proliferation of news in various media formats and the changing social structure of our society have really taken a negative toll of masonry. It's dying with a quickness, because it is no longer really needed as a networking place.

The only real skeleton in masonry's closet is the racial issue. The lodge has a reputation for only allowing caucasians into their ranks. This is an antiquated rule that is pretty much just a reflection of the time in which such rules were drafted. Many lodge members dislike such rules, and there is a good bit of active lobbying to change them. Several branches of masonry now allow people of any color to join. Should have been done long ago, but still...

My father and grandfather were both Masons, both 32nd degree. My grandfather was also a Shriner so he had the Harley and the Fezz etc...

I've been somewhat interested since my father died a few year ago and contacted a lodge to speak with them. The only thing I have noticed is that it seems no one, at least in the largers cities - even in the south, is under the age of 50...

Who knows, someday I might join just to learn more what it's about, but I'm not sure.

Marb

PS - I think the Masons have long lost any relationship with the Rosey Cross or Knight's Templar but I could be wrong...

Sort of.

As I understand it, after you achieve a certain degree, you are giventhe choice to pursue the Scottish Rite or the York Rite. One of those - I think it's the York Rite - allows you to progress on to join the Knights Templar after a certain level of degree.

However, Knights Templar these days is just another higher-level branch of the lodge. They've lost any and all connection to the Knights Templar of old.

I think most of those organizations ( Mason, Shriner, Moose, Elk etc etc ) are all more or less a social club where people get together to drink and have fun. Shriners and Moose have extensive childrens charity organizations, not sure about Elks and Masons. The Moose childrtens hospital in Florida is HUGE and free. Love Shriners parades.

Mostly these were strong influential organizations in the past, but anyone born post 60's would most likely not be a participant and Time is slowly killing these groups.

Over the Christmas break about 10 years ago, my theatre teacher and I took an extra cash gig to restore some old scrims and update the lighting at the huge Masonic Temple in Little Rock.

Spooky, freaky and tight.

We were watched, continually, on anything we did. We were working on their stage and had guys, in shifts, sit in the corner of the balcony and watch us work. Pretty sure they were jerking it, but have no proof.

We were escorted from the front door the stage by what I can only describe as the old guys with the soundest hips. If any static were to happen these guys could handle it without shattering theirs.

The equipment at the site was 70-80 years old. It was priceless. Finelle covers made of copper that would cast intricately shadowed scenes.
Hand painted murals on scrims from the early 1900's. Assloads of items so antiquated we did not know their function .. and they would not divulge (ass beads? Dildos?).

Well, we were escorted out - Paid in cash - visually frisked and thanked in a tone that meant 'don't come back 'lesser-than-us' human.

Part of me wants to join if only for the obvious Festival of Dionysus these old guys must be having.

The Order of the Eastern Star is not all female, but it is a branch that DOES allow females.

Masonry membership can be a fraternal "gift" (I was offered to be brought in by my grandfather at one point), and membership to the Order of the Eastern Star can be done in the same way. You don't have to "prove" that you are a good person to join. A Mason can also get you in to the Order of the Eastern Star as they ARE related.

Exclusion not inclusion is the mason motto as they practice it

Masons are associated with the Illuminati or so the legend goes. Many, many secrets in this organization.

Just read a book called Illuminati, interesting read tells a little of the history of these two organizations and how they became affiliated.
