Timeline
After fighting for a parking spot today I managed to actually get into the movie.
Now, I have a degree in history so this movie will appeal to me more than it would most. I really enjoyed the movie overall and I think the concept was really quite cool. I didn't really notice any flaws in their time accounting but I have only watched it once. The acting could have been better but I am not overly picky about that so much(remember I liked Battlefield Earth).
The film did a bit of jumping around and the character developement didn't really get a chance to grow on you. I would have liked more background on the characters but it seemed they had a lot to do in this movie so they just pushed forward. The movie was close to 2 hours and I would have loved it to be longer but as the title of the movie states, there was a timeline they were following.
The props for the movie were really awesome. The trebuchet's were very cool.
Would I want to own this in my DVD library? Yes.
Would I recommend it? Only to those who enjoy history mixed with scifi.
Would I want to read the book? Hell yes.
I grade the movie a "B-".

Just got back from this. Paul Walker is a horrible actor.
The story was pretty decent. I'll probably pick up the book so I can see what was supposed to happen. The movie felt like they cut a lot out (understandable). It's not a bad two hour time waster, and there's a subplot in the movie that's pretty good.
Except for Paul Walker, and his love interest in the movie, the acting's largely pretty good. Overall I'd give it a C-.

Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.
You can't go wrong with a Michael Crichton book.
Bubba, if you like the time stuff, try Crichton's novel, "Sphere" It wasn't a very good movie but, like most of Crighton's movies, the book is much better.
Michael Crighton's books:
Fiction
Timeline - 1999
Airframe - 1996
The Lost World - 1995
Disclosure - 1993
Rising Sun - 1992
Jurassic Park - 1990
Sphere - 1987
Congo - 1980
Eaters of the Dead - 1976 (movie: 13th Warrior)
The Great Train Robbery - 1975
The Terminal Man - 1972
The Andromeda Strain - 1969
Screenplay
Twister (written with Anne-Marie Martin) - 1996
Westworld - 1974

I remember when I was reading Sphere what an amazing movie it could be; because, really, the whole book is first person and makes for easy main character development.
But, they changed that ruining the entire movie.
I read Timeline so I am anxious to see the movie. But, just watching the commercials on TV I can see that they changed a fair bit of the background to the story, at least in how the charcters fit in with each other. But, Crighton really seems to research his books and throws a lot of information at the reader so everything kind of makes sense....That is hard to do in a 2 hour movie.

That is "creative license". It is why we can all understand the aliens on Star Trek and such. They should have at least mentioned something about how hard it was to understand but didn't.murr durr wrote:a review I read was sort of disappointed in the fact that people in ancient France spoke modern French instead of a more time appropriate language...
Now the 13th Warrior handled the languages really cool.
Creative License! I like that term. Underused word for screw ups.Bubba Grizz wrote:That is "creative license". Refresh my memory. Which part did the esteemed Mr. Campbell play in Congo?Canelek wrote:If you want to make a good movie....put Bruce Campbell in a leading spot.
With that said, he isn't in this movie, but the trailer looked sorta interesting.
Oh wait, Bruce was in Congo, my mistake.
Just don't blame Mr. Campbell for Congo, he has to pay the bills also.

Bruce Campbell .... Charles Travis, R.B.'s Son
I really don't remember it too well...
I will probably rent Timeline when it is available on DVD. I rarely go to the theatre anyway..

The story of Butler's character 'Garrick' (?) Should have been the focus of the movie. Just awesome. Paul Walker was abysmally bad, and did no actual acting whatsoever. The chick who was his love interest was equally bad. I kept hoping he'd press his marker and his head would explode. ><
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.
Read the book bubba, thats where the character backgrounds are
Imho all the movies except jurassic park have been crap. Though Westworld used to give me nightmares as a kid, Yul Brenner the bald robotic cowboy was sceery!
This movie wasn't that bad. But it wasn't that good either. The acting by just about all of them I thought was pretty bad. And character development was almost nonexistant. I didn't feel bad for most of the ones who died because I didn't know anything about them.
The fireballs were real though! Although it made me wonder why most of the people just stood there and watched it hit them. You'd think they'd like... move and stuff.
