I know many of you are heading to WoW and are not giving EQII a second thought. I'm probably heading to EQII.
Regardless, attached is the theme to EQII performed by an 84 piece orchestra. If this amount of attention is being paid to the music, I'd hope the content would be equally as rich.
Flame if you like, I'm just saying the theme sounds great.
Enjoy.

It reminds me of the nervousness I had in my stomach the first time I started walking around in Norrath.. the coolness of seeing and meeting other people doing the same thing..
It's sad that the innocence is gone and my brain knows that it'll just be another sucky time sink where you get to deal with jerks and code bugs..
Nice music though.

Did you play EQ at all for the past four years??! EQ was some incomptence and taking too long to release unfinished crap (especially after Verant left the scene). Ask the big kids about the PoTime cockblocking or the Vex Thal never-ending key quest, SOE's record for deliverying finished products on time is very bad.kyoukan wrote:why cant you play both. EQ2 will probably be out 3 and a half years before WoW given blizzard's awful track record for being lazy and incompetent and taking too fucking long to release unfinished crap.
WoW will be out like eleventy billion years before EQ2 beta begins, in my opinion. They seem to be putting a huge amount of love and nuturing into WoW and I suspect it will show in the next few months when beta goes out and then when release occurs. Although to be honest, the dark horse that is FFXI seems to have a LOT going for it, so I wouldn't be surprised if the other two big name releases don't live up to the hype that is being built up now.
Nothing will replace the "newness" that the original EQ offered to this community. It wasn't truly groundbreaking technology, but the size and longevity of the player base has been something special despite the poor quality of the game.

that's what I was going to say. at least sony's unfinished crap isn't always 3 years behind schedule and takes 18 months to patch.Karae wrote:Bullshit. Sony always releases their unfinished crap on time.
I'm sure WoW will be a good game but I get so fucking tired of this whole omg blizzard can do no wrong worlds of warcraft will be the saviour of mmorpgs attitude. the only game blizzard has ever released that remotely resembles an online rpg has been diablo. that game was extremely simplistic, took them like 2 years too long to develop, and was and continues to this day to be a completely broken and totally unplayable fucking mess where fully half the skills and 3 of the classes are entirely worthless, is absolutely rife with bugs and exploits and blizzard appears to be wholly incompetent about fixing it.

Well yeah.. but Diablo had all the data in the client's hands. It was like playing battleship w/ a cheating bastard ~ "D4!" One of the few things I agree with kyoukan on. Blizzard lovers crack me up. The box could contain petrified dogshit and even say that on the outside of the box but if it's labeled Blizzard, it's got to be good and worth the 5 years in development! WoW is being hyped to the moon.kyoukan wrote:Karae wrote:

that gives me even less faith than before. a game designed by a bunch of spoiled fat kids with egos surpassing their social skills demanding to get their own way. I'm sure the sissy fights that erupt in the studio are humorous as hell to watch though.Stragi wrote:You realize a huge portion of the WoW Dev. team is coming right out of EQ, most if not all from uber guilds?

The theme does indeed sound great - thanks for the link, Seebs.
Right now, I can't imagine playing EQ 2, but I say never say never, so who knows. WoW does zero for me, so I know I wont be playing that.
Personally, I will be playing City of Heroes ... should it ever come out.

Bingo. Fuck if I'm going to try to start another one of these style games.Hrmmm a lot of folks are going neither direction...I know I have 0 desire to start another MMORPG......
I played a little FFIX this weekend and was reminded why I vowed never to start another MMORPG. I'm sure they'll all be quality games, but 3 years into EQ is plenty for me.
The thought of pouring another 3 years into a game like that just to be a year and a half behind the forerunners of the game is more than I care to commit to.

Vaporware! City of Heroes looked so promising back in the day...it's close to being on the level of Duke Nuke'em Forever vaporware status.Ogbar wrote:

WoW is pretty cartoony. If I want cartoons I'll watch hentai, er anime...whichever one has the tentacles!
Most likely it will be EQ2, if anything, for a long lasting game switch. I reserve the right to jump on the WoW bandwagon though. I have carefully left loopholes in my Blizzard bashing. Will there be tentacle monsters in WoW?
Given the reference, I would question what you would want those tentacle monsters to _do_ with those tentacles in order to capture your attention.Winnow wrote:WoW is pretty cartoony. If I want cartoons I'll watch hentai, er anime...whichever one has the tentacles!

If it's just plain old tentacle monsters you want, I saw some tunnel worms and malboros in FFIX that were pretty "tentaclly."
Skogen wrote:I personally love the cartoony look of the WoW models. Trying to go for a super-realistic look is the wrong direction IMHO. Like someone else said, the EQII models look like scarey dolls. No thanks. Give me the artsy look!
One day in the "not so distant" future, EQII's graphics will look dated and old fashioned in much the same way that the original EQ graphics look old and outdated now.
From a technological standpoint, the WoW graphics will fall by the wayside much sooner than the EQ2 graphics.
I suspect that what will make up for that will be the artistic style of WoW's graphics. When both look dated, the WoW graphics will be more palatable due to their 'style'.
Does this mean that I will refuse to play EQII? Does this mean that Blizzard is superfly and SOE is ghey??!
No and no. Those were just limited pro's and con's that I can see concerning two unreleased games by two games houses that have never built a new MMORPG before. (The people who have the experience to say that they have built a new MMORPG work at places like Sigil, and God only knows what they are doing.

It is true that the Blizzard cock sucking has gone way too far, and the game will never live up to the hype. I suspect that the game will actually be fun, playable, and enjoyable, despite its inability to live up to the fanboi hype.
I suspect that those asshats at SOE will probably make a good game too. After living through 4 years of EQ, you will excuse me if I am somewhat reluctant to jump back in to their (cess)pool. Having said that, I will probably do it anyway, and then join the masses complaining about it afterwards

Ill give em both a try. Hell i may even put on some tights and try City of Heroes as well. After that free month though, Ill choose one. Its all about that free month! Seemed to work out for me and DAoC. At the end of that free month I wasnt impressed so I went back to EQ. Was a wise decision.

So you're wearing tights just for fun?Aranuil wrote:City of Heroes to my knowledge has neither a release date, or any type of beta testing going on. Until such time, the game is vapor.
