2 Towers

Post by Bubba Grizz »

I am surprised this isn't posted yet. I went and bought the extended version today. Seems a lot of people wanted this dvd set as Best Buy was almost out after only being open for an hour. Well, at least the pallet they had when I got there was almost empty.

It has been a long time since I saw it so I wasn't overly sure of all the parts added. Some were obvious but others weren't. All in all it is a very cool set.

It was mentioned in the DVD release thread sorta. Did you get the normal 4-disc one or the box set one? I was going to go today and get the box but... I forgot.

I opted for the less expensive version. The box set had a nice lil statue of Gollum but I didn't see it as being as nice as the book ends from the fellowship box set. So $25 instead of $60. Though I did end up buying The Transporter cause it was cheap.

I will probably pick up the 4-disc set next week. I can do without the doll, if that is what the extra cash goes towards...

And The Transporter rocks!

The box set also comes with another DVD and a book. I haven't read or watched either so I can't attest to their quality.. but just posting for clarification that it's not just the figure of Gollum that you're paying extra for.

The "bookend" edition supposedly has something like the story of Smeagal on the 5th disk. Basically another movie.

Hope it's better than the bonus one for the first set. It was interesting, but it wasn't very long.

Did anyone else want to scream in agony when Eowyn sang?!

*gag spew hiss*

Probably didn't help that she was my most hated character in the books.

Her singing was ok. The extended version seems to include more of the songs and poetry that were in Tolkeins books, which is cool, gives it a richer feeling.

On a technical note, some of the compositing on Gollum was pretty bad watching it again. Specifically in the Dead Marshes. The highlights on Frodo and Sam are strong and crisp, whereas everything is all muted and smooth on Gollum. And don't try and tell me it's just how his skin is.. it's a bad lighting job in post!
