SCAM OR NOT page 2

on this page, pils reiterates his hesitations about this deal. He goes into great detail about what a wonderful car this has been to him. He tells the story of the time he actually gave a chick a ride in his sunfire and how that was his most glorious day. He emphasizes how much better his new neon is and how it will for sure get him laid. He decides not to send his sunfire overseas and rather sell it to a poor local girl who doesn't have much money but he just might get lucky.

In Europe, it would be a lot cooler( and I believe more expensive) to have something like a Mustang than a BMW
That's utterly absurd.
/shrug Thats just what I got from talking to a German exchange student here at my school, he just used a Mustang as an example, but it really could be any sort of American made car that would need to be exported I guess, or he was just fucking with me.

American cars aren't really considered all that.. can't even remember last time I saw a newer Mustang. I am sure there are some, along with some Camaros, TAs and Corvettes, but they are fairly expensive and only bought by "fanatics".

In general American cars are considere large and gas hogs.

I still see a lot of late '80 5.0 bodies floating around.

That's what I like about hondas, the used fuckers can sell. My last car and my mother's car were both sold the same way. We put the ad in the paper. Someone at the paper tips off the smugglers and call to buy it the night before the ad is supposed to run. If you can negotiate like a bastard and not get intimidated by the muscle they bring along (I'm not even kidding), you make out like a bandit. Then they ship it over to cuba for some dignitary and that's that. Doesn't matter if you have 80k or 160k miles on them, they fly out the door in the same fashion. If they're dicks, sign the title exchange and price it, if not, leave the price blank so they don't have to pay the extra taxes.

Just put it in the paper anyway and forget the internet sales shit. All of this insecurity isn't worth the extra $200 you might squeeze out of the deal.

While in Italy I had a 90 Transam, and the Italians all acted as if its lame slow ass was an exotic foreign sports car, which to them I guess it was, even though Pontiacs, and hell all GM products suck the big one. If it were not for having to pay the import duties to do so, I could have turned it over to an Italian for 3 times what I paid for it, but with the import fees being more than the value of the car, well, you get the idea.

Skogen it looked liek the steering wheel was on the left side, like int he states, but that car is from Poland? Wouldn't it be on the other side? If so would't you have to have it modified if you brought it over to the states?

As for Mustangs, true they aren't the highest quality, but I have 2 friends with them a '03 and a '96..the '03 has never had a problem and it gets lots of use and driven hard, the '96 has had few problems for it's age.

Xyun, yes the Sunfire was very good to me. make fun of it all you want but when you only need $150 worth of repairs over 8 years...that deserves to be mentioned. As for chicks in my car, that's why I bought a 4-door for my new car...because I got tired of pushing the seat forward to let them all out. Seriously...so you can STFU.

Scam update: The guy hasn't talked to me since I openly called him out on his scam.

Winnow, it's the FBI not the CIA, were in Cincy, OH...not NYC, DC, or LA...terrorist activity here is fairly minimal because us rednecks like to beat the shit out of anyone who looks or talks like they are from out of town. So they are probably sitting on thier asses anyway, I was only going to contact them if I felt I could set the guy up for a sting. You know, one less fuckhead on the streets isnt such a bad thing.

in Poland , like in most of Europe, they drive on the right side of the street, so no modifications would be needed.

Pilsburry wrote:I put my Sunfire up for $4,250.....it's blue book is like $2,300...it's old as fuck and it's dented etc...

Anyway today I closed on a sale to some guy, I told him the paint is fucked, I gave him close up shots of the dents... he agreed to $3,500.

Here is where it gets weird....

He is in england. He is sending me a cashiers check for $7,950, I keep $3,500 and turn the rest over to the shipping company....$4,450 in shipping.

OK, now if that isn't weird anough....

Later today...same day I agreed to sale...actually a couple hours later...

2 seperate people contact me, both from France....They are eager to pay asking price of $4,250 (but I already told the one dude he can have it, I'm a man of my word). They would of course have similar shippign charges and were also mentioning paying via cashiers cheque.

Is this a scam? I don't see why people are wanting to pay more in shipping than the car is worth on a car they are already paying more than blue book for....
Just don't do anything until the check clears and you have the money in your pocket.

It's most likely a scam, I'd be VERY suspicious of anyone willing to go to all that trouble and pay almost 4x blue book for a banged up shitfire. Take every precaution to protect yourself. And remember, just because the money appears to be in your account doesn't mean the check's cleared. I'd contact the bank and inform them of your suspicions. At the least you can get them to notify you when the check clears. It might also be productive to contact the Secret Service, Financial Crimes (they handle counterfitting) when you receive the check and have them look into it.

But let's face it, NOBODY wants your car so much as to pay to have it shipped to Europe...or even 15 miles from your home.

edit: I just noticed that second link has a number for the SS - (202) 406-5572.

*sigh* The whole point of this scam is that a cheque never "clears". The bank will release the funds after 3-5 days; because they have to. But, when the cheque bounces in 30-60 days, they'll reverse the deposit immediately.
