Greatest Rivalry in NCAA Football

Vote Here

It'll be interesting to see how the country votes. I also like the way Page 2 does their polls in brackets so you can see how the teams advance. You know my vote is going for Michigan vs. Ohio State.

I think the FSU-Florida rivalry is bigger than Miami/FSU... although I've only lived here a few years so I could be wrong!

I voted OU-Texas ... anyone who has driven through Dallas on the weekend of the Red River Shootout with a Longhorn sticker on their vehicle can understand why!

As big as Michigan vs. OSU always is, this year is even bigger. It's the 100th meeting of the two schools, with the winner taking the Big 10 championship. If OSU wins, they'll likely be going to the National Championship game, and if Michigan wins we'll still have a (admittedly outside) chance at making it to that game.

Go Blue!

On a side note, it's too bad Notre Dame won last weekend. Had they lost, Michigan would have moved into #1 in all time win percentage, to go with our #1 all time wins. Oh well, guess we'll just have to beat OSU and win our bowl game to move ahead of them. =)

I would actually put OSU/UM in the greatest rivalry ever. Even topping Duke/UNC in basketball or Bears/Packers. Maybe because I grew up in Columbus. :?

Miami / FSU is bigger than UF / FSU because the game is more important typically in determining the national champion. In the last 20 years Miami has 5 titles, FSU has 3, and Florida only has 1.

Florida people are the most prominant in the state, so they will try to act like FSU/UF is a bigger game. They of course dont play up the rivalry of Miami/UF because they try to avoid playing Miami which kind of makes it hard to have a rivalry. The FSU people i'm sure probably think of Miami as their big game every year.

Who cares what the UF people think about anything!!

i think Auburn / Alabama might be one of the biggest rivalries.

Had to go with OSU vs Michigan for the obvious reasons (I grew up in Columbus and went to Ohio State).

Of the games to get national recognition on TV, they are not one any of them.

Seriously though, look at the coaches. In Bo Schembechler's book (great book btw), he says the only game that mattered in the entire season was the OSU game. When asked this year about the BCS situation, Tressel said he didn't care about the BCS at all, and was just focused on Michigan.

This rivalry means so much because of how good the teams always are. Look at it this year, last game of the year and the number 4 and 5 teams are going head to head. Conference championship on the line and possibly the national title.

OSU gets rid of coaches with winning records if they can't beat Michigan.

I went to UT for 2 years.. believe me, OSU vs UM is even above that.. the entire two states seem to get involved in it. And damn.. wear a UM hat anywhere in Ohio this weekend WILL get you mugged. I wanted to do it last year just for the hell of it but my better half basicly told me "FUCK NO!"

EDIT: Found this on espn.com
This is the 100th meeting between the schools. Michigan holds a 56-37-6 lead in the series, voted the greatest rivalry of the 20th century in a fan poll conducted by ESPN.com.

I'd say that's not quite accurate, even when I attended OSU we wouldn't assault people merely for supporting their team ( although less sober types may fling cigarette butts/beer maybe, but...) .

That being said, I wouldn't parade down Chitenden Ave or 15th (Greek district) in Maize and Blue yelling "OHIO STATE SUCKS!!"... that's just inviting trouble as we've had riots there the last few years from drunken Mobs (The LA/Rodney King kind, not the EQ kind).

My best friend and I stayed at some piece of shit hotel about a mile down from the Horseshoe last year, and had to walk down that street that is parallel to the river there, I forget the name. We were like the only people fully decked out in Maize and Blue, and everyone was talking shit to us. Women, old people, little kids. It was a great time. =) My response to everything (as I was pretty shitcanned at the time) was "GO BLUUUUUUUUE!"

I still think that "Ann Arbor is a whore!" is like the dumbest insult I've ever heard. Please try to work on something more creative, or something that at least makes sense.

The UF/FSU game means much more, both for title implications and recruiting. UF and FSU have knocked each other out of title contention numerous times in the last decade, and those late season losses hurt a lot more than one that happens earlier.

I wish UF and UM would work out a way to play every year, but with the ACC working on expanding to 12 teams and a title game, it's gonna be pretty hard.

Unless 18,000 people show up out of the woodwork and only vote for Army/Navy, then OSU/UM win yet again.

Michigan's favored by 6.5 right now, you won't go to hell. ;)

Jesus, I'm so psyched for this game. The 100th matchup for UofM and OSU. In the last 50 meetings, both teams are 24-24-2. Each of the coaches has a national championship under his belt and with a 19-3 combined record it's the best record of any rivalry game this year.

I just hope Zook's defense is strong enough to prevent me from having to listen to THE GAYEST fight song in all of college football too often. I'm prepared for the 10,000 times their fucking shit band is going to play the whorechant, but I can't take too many woos.

Auburn/Alabama... families don't speak or sit in the same room... and the losers leave the house rather quickly
