This movie is awesome! It's got such a great feel, and its NOTHING like Pirates of The Carribean. Go see it, great acting, great effects, great suspense and drama. +Pippin is in it!!!(billy boyd from LoTR)

Small story on an epic scale. Surprisingly, it was very good.
But, if you like to have rich character development, don't go see it. This movie has next to none.
I must say, I loved the ending though. Nothing like an ending that doesn't completely wrap up the story so that if the world ended tomorrow you'd be satisfied that you saw all there was to it and at the same time not totally leading into a sequel

Although I felt the movie was well acted and well produced with perfectly authentic sets and sounds, I did not like the movie.
I fully agree there was no character development, and I'd add that there is nothing in this movie the least bit compelling.

Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

Damn, for a split second there I was going to get all defensive about the movie but in almost the same instant I realized that each person is entitled to their own opinion. No reason for me to rant because I wouldn't want someone to do the same to me. No right, no wrong, just a matter of opinion.Aranuil wrote:Although I felt the movie was well acted and well produced with perfectly authentic sets and sounds, I did not like the movie.

I was pretty unimpressed after seeing this movie. There was some character development but it was very settle and in the entire 2 and a half hour movie there was maybe 20 minutes total of naval combat, and it wasn’t even that well done. There was more in the movie about surgery and the doctor’s very discreat “rebellion” with the captain’s orders then anything else. Well directed in a since but it was honestly pretty damn boring.

I did not like this movie much
it's good in a way I can see how many would like it
and there is a huge sequel set up
but what really stuck out for me was just one horrifying medical procedure after another done under primative conditions with no morphine - I'm sure that is very true to life etc - and maybe one or two...and maybe some implied...but ugh I just wasn't up for that - and no I'm not some squeemish person I watch autopsy stuff all the time -for some reason those scenes really got to me

Bump!
I saw this last night and I really enjoyed it. Makes you wonder if ship captains in that time really were crafty or if they just flanked and marched their ships like soldiers did in that era.
I really enjoyed the ending as the cat and mouse would continue. I certainly didn't see it as an opening for a sequel as their was no face to the other ship's captain. My wife was really pissed at it though.
