USA a country of choice

Post by Taly »

Will we still be the Country of choice and still be America if we
continue to make the changes forced on us by the people from other
countries that came to live in America because it is the Country of
Choice???????? Think about it........

All I have to say is, when will they do something about MY RIGHTS? I
celebrate Christmas, but because it isn't celebrated by everyone, we
can no longer say Merry Christmas. Now it has to be Season's
Greetings. It's not Christmas vacation, it's Winter Break. Isn't it
amazing how this winter break ALWAYS occurs over the Christmas
holiday?? We've gone so far the other way, bent over backwards to not
offend anyone, that I am now being offended. But it seems that no one
has a problem with that.

This says it all!

After hearing that the state of Florida changed its opinion and let a
Muslim woman have her picture on her driver's license with her face
covered this is an editorial written by an American citizen, published
in a Tampa newspaper. He did quite a job; didn't he? Read on, please!

IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT. I am tired of this nation
worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their
culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced
a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust
from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct"
crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was
offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge
against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our
population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants.
However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to
our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This
idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to
dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we
have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own
lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of
struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have
sought freedom.

We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese,
Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part
of our society, learn the language!

"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian,
right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian
men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this
is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on
the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you
consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is
part of our culture.

If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you
should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We
are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really
don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR
COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every!
citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every
opportunity to do so. But once you are done complaining, whining, and
griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of
life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great
American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.

I disagree. Government should be completely neutral about religion. While it's true that Christians founded the country, the same Christians wanted Government and Religion to have nothing to do with eachother. This is also well documented. That doesn't mean people in general shouldn't have the right to put a Nativity Scene on their lawns...Just the government shouldn't do it.

Otherwise yes I agree with you. But, you can say Merry Christmas all you want. It's just that someone might take offence. Well, I say if they do, screw em. ;) You were just trying to show a little goddamned holiday cheer. ;)

America should never support any one culture over an other. Whether you do or not, people should leave you alone for it.

yeah...right

Bring us your poor, your tired, your huddled masses yearning to breethe free - as long as they GO TO THE SAME DAMN CHURCH I DO, DURNIT!

That article is one of the most hypocritical things I've seen in a long damn time.

Has political correctness gone too far? Yeah, maybe to some extent it has. But freedom of religion is far more important than protecting christianity (whatever the hell that means).

"If God offends you"? Oh booh-frigging-hoo.

I'm curious how this post qualifies as either current, or an event. There's nothing new about the christian party line, and there's no event either.

Ah the revision of history continues.

Damn those Christians. Have we twisted things enough so we can call them "evil" yet?

Short sighted, judgmental, uncaring, holier-than-thou bastards.

America was founded by deists dammit, no wait they were agnostics, well they *really* were atheists.

There's no right and wrong, it's all gray, so why not "redefine" the truth to suit our personal wants?

There's no accountability, I dismiss the idea of Hell and God and judgment and all that crap. It's just a shackle that keeps me from fucking my sister. It's not wrong; I'm just following what my feelings tell me to. It's how I was born. Why should I deny my genetics?

Who are you to judge? Quit forcing your morality on me. Your laws have no bearing. Our founding father's understood that because they were staunch atheists trying to come free from under all that Christian morality crap.

If I can't control it, I reject it! Don't shackle me! I will not control my desires. What I'm hurting society? Like I give a damn. You can't prove it! All that matters is me. I am God.

Being critical of things your government is doing does not = hating the country. The most important part of out constitution is that US citizens(thats immigrants too btw) have the rights to speak what they believe and the right to get things changed when they feel there is something wrong with their country's ways. I love my country enough to question what it does, to help it become a better place for everyone, thats truely loving your country.

Blindly agreeing with every action your country makes is not patriotic. Questioning things that are unjust and making it a better place for its citizens and for the world as a whole is true patriotism.

Ethics are one's personal choice, and that has nothing to do with the discussion at hand. You may say I am unethical, but what would someone else entirely say about you?

Not endorsing a Religion is not the same as a doctrine of getting rid of ethics entirely. Christian ethics are not the only kind of ethics. =P Nonetheless our system does support some of the basic Christian ethics, but I'd say those are akin to most religions. Stealing and Murdering are bad. But beyond the very basics, it is, and should always be a personal issue. The government has nothing to do with it.

Kyou is talking about Taly not about Christians. Your Founding Fathers went to great lengths to separate church and state and the only revisionism going on is the lie that the US was founded as a Great Christian Republic.

Doubt that's Taly's personal feelings, but that's one of those wonderful "chain" emails that has gone around lately. Maybe it touched a part of her somewhere, but all of the bitchin' at her for "writing" it is stupid. Posting it here was a wee bit silly as Kyou said though. It's a chain mail that someone sent you...sent you...sent YOU. You don't HAVE to share it with 15 other people like the message might tell you.

Seriously, what the hell was all of that crap? I'm particularly curious as to why you feel that anyone said this country wasn't founded by christians since you feel we "revised" history.

Nah,

It was a word experiment. There's an attitude I see in our culture today that I can't quite put into words.

So, I assumed the attitude from an emotional level and just let the words flow out.

Call it an raw experiment in unfiltered expression.

I wonder what is the most efficient language out there?

Which language has the most consistant rules and fewest exceptions.

Which language is easiest to learn?

Hell, if we're all into unifying language I question if english is the best choice.

the whole concept that we have to protect English is absurd.

Seriously try to get a job that is substantially better than mowing peoples' lawns without speaking English. I have never seen a television show on a major network that wasnt in English (i even lived in Miami for 4 years). oh nos at K-Mart most people spoke Spanish. I played in a baseball league and the games were conducted in Spanish...oh nos, how did i ever survive?!? Amazingly it is actually fun and interesting to learn about other cultures.

but the bottom line is the reason people speak English in all corners of the World is because it is economically advantageous to do business with the West, and more specifically the United States. You will not find corporations in Malaysia writing their prospectus in Spanish to attract investers.

For fucks sake you see pictures of these rebels in Africa and they have machine guns in their hands and fucking Nike t-shirts and NY Yankees baseball caps on. They don't wear Chesperito t-shirts. English will be the language the entire world speaks going forward. The internet alone may be the biggest force behind that. Lucky for us, Cantonese doesnt fit on a keyboard very well :p

just as an aside to your question Adex, i think Spanish is easier to learn than English, and in my opinion is a very streamlined language. Subject pronouns are not required in the sentence, and all the letters only have one sound (dipthongs excepted), which is one of the confusing things about english, is that some words aren't spoken at all the way they appear to be written etc.

The government is supposed to be neutral toward religion, so their is justification for it to try not to promote a specific religion. As a private individual you are free to say Merry Christmas if you like.

Our culture borrows from the various immigrants that have come here throughout its history. Any particular reason why we should try to declare the current mix is "the" american culture protected from all influence? Not that you could, even if you stopped all immigration.

We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese,
Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part
of our society, learn the language!

Knowing english is a good thing for immigrants, not from trying to preserve a national language or cultural identity though but just because it is the language that most of the business gets done here (particularly the higher paying jobs). There is a lot more opportunity if you know english.

Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

The Constitution, the document that is the basis of our nation specifically states that citizens have the right to exercise whatever religious preference they so desire. As Jefferson pointed out ...

The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg. – Thomas Jefferson (1781)

By the way, "In God we Trust" didn't show up on our money until 1864. It wasn't adopted as a national motto until 1956. Given the constitution's clear indication that government is not supposed to interfere in religion, I am not fond of it as a national motto.

The author of the piece might also want to look to the motto of the great seal of the United States, which does actually date back to the shortly after the founding of the country (1782). "E. Pluribus Unum" out of many, one.
If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you
should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We
are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really
don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR

I love this country. But that doesn't mean I think its perfect, or above criticism. Look at the second part of the first amendent again "... or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.". Once again pretty clearly stating that the ability to criticize is a fundamental right of citizens of this country.
No nation was ever ruined by trade.

I checked on that DL issue, and I believe that it's still in the courts. Charlie Crist (FL Attourney General) is on it like a hobo on a ham sammich and looks prepared to take it to the wall if the ACLU (who is providing Veil Woman's lawyer).

What if she wins, and they let her keep her covered face on her picture. Imagine the signal this could send to any potential terrorist as a great way to circumvent identification to aid whatever plan/activity they might have going.

Yeah, that's one of the few cases where I think the ACLU is out of line. Driving is a privledge, not a right.

I want to wear a hat, some glasses, a fake mustache, a fake highly visible scar, and some contacts that make my eyes brown for my liscense picture.

While they're at it, I'll ask them to change the name to Ralph Bensonmum and my age to 46.

Your Founding Fathers went to great lengths to separate church and state and the only revisionism going on is the lie that the US was founded as a Great Christian Republic.
Tanc please don't talk to toker as if he is an American. Although I realize that there are millions upon millions of moronic Americans out there, you are insulting each and every one of them when you talk to this wannabe backseat cheerleader as if there's a drop of american blood in his body.

Don't worry Forthe. Last time I checked, Britain was far more a part of America than Canada. :P

"America" being the conglomeration of the two continents, North and South, QED Canada and the USA are both part of "America".

However, Canada is not a part of the United States of America. A small point to be sure!

I do and always have disagreed with driving being a privlege. I pay for a car. I pay taxes for that car. I pay for a license. I pay for a registration. I pay for the taxes of those. I pay for insurance. I pay for gas. I pay taxes for gas. I pay taxes for the roads. I pay taxes for the police. I pay taxes for everything else related to driving and owning a vehicle.

I don't have a choice as to whether to do any of those. Sure a few go away if I don't have a car, but even then I'm still paying for the roads, the police, etc. If I can't drive, I shouldn't have to pay for anything related to it. But since I do, I have the right to drive.

And yes, if I fuck up and abuse my driving ability I can lose the freedom to do that. Just like if someone fucks up with a gun, they lose the freedom to do that. Or if someone fucks up with their children, they lose them.

When it becomes a privledge instead of a right to have children, then we'll talk about driving being a right or privledge.
