Zaeleth is right and you assholes need to step off.

ALL that has been said is that IF the server is intrusive to the point of being irritating, they get less of a tip.

Not a damn thing wrong with that.

Zae I'm exactly the damn same. I'm usually more than satisfied with prompt polite service, ONE inquiry as so the satisfaction of the food and no other intrusions unless I make eye contact. And frankly, 90% of the time that's all I get. Everybody happy, nice fat tip.
But I've also been places where some "wacky" airhead seemed compelled to do a one-person standup routine throughout the entire meal. Fuck. Off!

Like a lot of people I've also worked tables here and there at some point in my life so I know if what I speak. Krims is correct about silent justice :) It's a personal policy of mine NEVER to piss off people who prepare or handle my food out of my line of sight :)

i saw some clips of this miniseries, and they looked pretty bad, hehe. i'm no Reagan fan, but i can see why people may have had some pretty legitimate complaints about it.

that being said, i also wouldnt be surprised if Ronny did make some decisions in his pajamas not knowing what the fuck he was talking about =).

of course VIacom trying to get some business done in DC this week had NOTHING to do with this decision either :p

Zae's original post...
Also, can *anybody* tell me why the FUCK I would want a waiter to come up and talk to me when I'm in the middle of a conversation with my date/spouse/friend/self, I have food on the table and my drink is not empty. Why, Why, WHY?!

I know they just want a tip, but trust me, if they kept their eyes open and their tiny brains engaged they'd get much better tips for not butting into my conversations like a spoilt child that has a question for it's mother.

Tancred, thats not really all Zae said...Though I agree it can be annoying, his remarks were offensive as hell and Zae comes off as a arrogant and bitchy person with that first quote. The most offensive part of what he said is that we are only being nice to get bigger tips. That is sometimes true, but let me give an example of another reason waiters come check on you too many times, and this happens A LOT, especially with inexperienced waiters:

Here's what often happens and seems like they are being too nice(I was a waiter for 6months, its friggin hell, btw). They are waiting several tables, not just you and sometimes forget if theyve even talked to you, so they accidently come up to you extra times during your dining experience. This happens especially in a fast-paced restaurants, like a chain food restaurant, where not only do you have several tables to wait on, those tables are cycling out new families every 10mins.

Really, if it annoys you its as simply as politely telling a waiter that they are being a bit intrusive, but thank them for their kindness. If they don't recognize that they are doing something wrong, then they will just keep doing it. Trust me, as long as its not offensive and mean criticism, waiters will appreciate it.

I agree that it is annoying, but there was some unnecessary and offensive remarks in there too. That is why people are jumping on Zae.

Servers/waiters have some of the toughest jobs around. Every diner has a different expectation when it comes to service. You could treat two diners the same, and get a reduced tip from one from being too attentive, and get a reduced tip from the other for not being attentive enough.

It seems like every other girl I dated in college was a server, and whether they worked at a high-end restaurant or at Pizza Hut, they inevitably came home at the end of their night at wit's end and in need of consolation. Which I happily provided. ;)

(Nice derail, btw!)
