What keeps you playing EQ?

Post by Pahreyia »

Some friends of mine recently made the jump to FFIX. While I am not thuroughly impressed with the game, and the thought of another $50 game and monthly charge don't get me teribly excited, it looks like most all of my friends are going to make the change, or make the change permanent. So I'm facing being the last one of my group of friends that actually still plays EQ, and I wonder to myself why I'm doing it anymore.

I wanted to ask the players here what it is that keeps them playing EQ. Where do you derive your pleasure and motivation to log in?

I'm still having fun. As long as that continues to be the case, I'll keep playing.

Something to do for an hour or two in the evening rather than watch TV. Good for first thing in the morning on weekends when no one else is up yet also. Most of my friends are either in raiding guilds or have quit playing, EQ is an extremely casual game for me now.

None of the current or upcoming games other than WoW look very interesting.

The random guild invites I get every week or so are usually entertaining as well :)

The people.

My guild who are almost all pure <3 on crackers.

The friends outside the guild who make me laugh.

Even the idiots, for the hilarity they choose to share with us at times.

Mostly it's one person who makes it worth it :)

I havent quit, but I dont play either.

I needed to get away for a long while. I figure Ill be back in EQ in 3 months time, but the game itself. Everything about it just drove me nuts. Literally everything bugged me. The people, the play, the drive for loot, the drive for AA, LFG, Soloing, Grouping, raiding, the d00dz, the RP'ers, the interface, the way I run, my Warder actuallly pissed me off... etc... etc...

I love the game, but cant stand it either... its like a woman. Cant live with em and cant kill em.

1. Getting to see Voro die. Beginning with Crushbone, I have been slowly indoctrinated and conditioned into believing that this is the sekret to winning EQ.

2. Friends, or those other relics who have been playing since the world was new and the game was still fun to play.

3. Habit.

p.s. recent marriage has broken me of the habit, and my new wife's hatred for the time sink that is EQ has left me zero play time. This is a good thing and may render my post in this thread totally inappropriate.

Only reason I play anymore is for the couple of friends that still play that I enjoy spending my time with. I'm actually finding that I am having more fun being guildless and having no obligations or responsibilities to anyone but myself, and that wether I am having fun or not is 100% dependant upon myself and no one else.

So many reasons.. I had to seriously think abotu this one. Came up with 3 that should sum it up.

The reasons I still play EQ are as follows (in no particular order):

1. Marriage to a woman that thinks that fucking "Trading Spaces" is a fun-filled Saturday night.

2. Marriage to a woman that thinks listening to her daily diatribe about all the "funny stories her classroom had today" is even remotely of interest to me.

3. Marriage to a woman, that for the life of me can't cook a decent meal, and it gives me an excuse to heat "Weiner-Mac" downstairs as an alternative to some cooking show recipe she just saw on the Home Channel.

oh... forgot the most important one:

3a.) I can drink everynight alone downstairs, and not feel like an alcoholic since there's at least a few hundred people online at the same time doing the same thing for the same reasons :)

Life was too good at the time of proposal, Aslanna. Noone should be too happy=)

And of course I'm kidding. I love her more than life, just isn't as funny that way.

Reason "3a" is horribly true though
