I watched this on the news. The gunman shot at the guy like 6 times and only hit him twice. What kind of moron can't hit a guy from three feet away? I guess those lawyers are slippery!

Lack of training
From what I've read on it, and training I've been to you're actually pretty safe when most people are pointing a gun at you. Trained people in stressful situations miss a fair percentage of the time, even at close range.
Especially with a revolver, just trying to pull the trigger fast moves the gun enough to make you miss if you don't know what you're doing.

It would be more helpful to look down the barrel at the little piece sticking up and using it to point to what you want to hit, not that 2 hands is a bad idea tho.
At that close of a range, using two hands and keeping the gun level with elbows bent and close to the sides is the preferred method. Commonly called the "third eye".
