Asherons call 2

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D it's freaking amazing for beta. Some lag but it gives something for EQ2 to somewhat possibly think of maybe attaining.

If you like dumbed down, overpopulated games and are easily wowed by eye candy, AC2 might be the game for you! Three races, zero classes, and a skill tree even less complex than Diablo's. Radar and built in maps that track your location. The even game auto-follows whatever you attack, hit ATK and AFK.

AC2 clearly panders to the low intelligence gaming community. I think my dog could play this game.

Karae, he DID post seven smile faces at the very start of his post. You have to wonder exactly where this is coming from.

Does that mean how many strokes it takes? Or how many times you actually did it? And over the course of what period of time?

I played AC 1 for around a year and a half and really enjoyed it. I ended up quitting due to lack of raid content and that because of no real classes everyone started making the exact same character skill wise(the game was not based around grouping, so everyone had a character that could do a bit of all the skills, life magic, war magic, enchantments, and melee and everyone just solod and their chars were all basically the exact same =/)...

Other than monthly events(tho the changing world really kicked ass) there was nothing you couldnt do with a small group of people. The PvP was more fun than EQ imo, and i really liked the environment tho the player graphics were lacking.

I had a bunch of RL friends who played it, which i dont with EQ which may have added to the enjoyment. I miss it sometimes, the monthly changes to the world and free additions made it feel like you were really involved in the world around u...

Ive played EQ for over 3 years tho and think its a much better game all around. And untill VI stops producing content for EQ ill be playing it =)
I dont think ill play another MMORPG after EQ but who knows AC 2 looks promising(so does WoW imo), but its really a LOT different style than EQ, so if youve played EQ a long time its hard to start into AC...

This is not, and has never been a board that caters to the AC crowd. AC in any form, is a game I'll never fucking play. Please take all AC related bullshit elsewhere. KTHXBYE.

This was not directed at Keverian, because he basically said AC sucked.

In time, I'm sure this board will be used to discuss games like Earth and Beyond, SW:G, City of Heroes, et cetera.

Just because AC is such a pile of shit doesnt mean we cant discuss it here. I mean, we listened to your ramblings about AO on the VNboards, didnt we? :P

I mean yeah I guess that the game must be gay if you do not have to position yourself exactly right to attack a mob. Do you think it really takes any freaking skill at all to place yourself exactly where you need to be to melee a mob?? I think most can manipulate the run keys to get themselves in an attack position-- Or that everyone starts out the same and chooses what they want to be, which skills they want to have? The special attacks are great, the graphics are amazing--It is going to be one hell of a game. The map saves you the time of going to eqmaps-or whichever sites you prefer to negotiate the pointless vast expanses of EQ. If you negotiate EQ without a 3rd party map-good for you. Again its nothing to brag about.

AC2 will kill Eq.

and it's basically almost nothing like AC. The world is somewhat the same, but the playing experience is more immersive since shit actually looks real. Mobs have arrows that stick in them, they get bloody etc.

AC2 will kill Eq.
Well lets see...
AC was supposed to be EQ's death knell...
So was DAoC...
So was Diablo 2...
So was AO (is it out? I have heard precious little about it... but I haven't been interested enough to really care)

Sony/V.I. keeps coming out with more expansions, and while some of the older gaming community (such as some denizens of this board) may be getting tired and moving on to other games, no one has yet "knocked out" the champ. I'm not saying that I am V.I. fan, but with the Might of Sony (i.e. marketing know-how and muscle... the CS may suck but there is no denying these boys and girls can sell their product) behind them, they are a formidable force in the gaming world and its gonna take more than a little hype from a Beta of the sequel one of the "also-ran" crowd to convince me that the next thing is here.

Sure there are problems with EQ but the bottom line is it doesn't suck as bad as its competition has, AND it has a shitload of inertia on its side. The next champion will come, and it may not be far off, but it wil have to be something versatile/diverse to attract a wide user base, and its going to have to be free of many of the flaws that the other games have shown.

I honestly think (and in part this is because of the "name recognition" thing and in part because they HAVE shown with some expansions/AA skills/ new UI that they are willing to borrow ideas from other products) that SWG will be the game to "dethrone" EQ as number one. It'll be interesting to see who can come up with some worthy competition.

AC2 definitely looks like 90% eye candy, 10% challenge. Sometimes VI goes a bit overboard on the time involved to accomplish things, but you do get a sense of satisfaction when you make that next level, get that item, etc.

That auto-follow crap will make PvP just plain silly. Keeping out of your opponant's los is half the battle in some cases.

The only game I truly see dethroning EQ is EQ2, and only because they will not be expanding EQ from that point on. Hell, far as I know, PoP is the last expansion. I just don't see myself, or any other long-time players hanging around if there's no new content.

I could be wrong.

I agree though, the main reason most people won't leave EQ is the fact that they cannot bear to part with something they wasted perhaps 2-3 years of their life on. Leaving EQ would render all of their collective sacrifices useless and all in all a total waste of time--especially those that see themselves as little more than their characters-those that eat sleep and shit EQ.

At least on AC you can be a casual player and actually accomplish something that didn't take waiting for such and such mob to spawn. Well, I have never played AC but had a boss that lived by it much the same way people are fanatical about playing EQ.

From what I understand, SWG is going to be mainly skill based and not class based. Which makes more sense to me.

Damn, I knew I had a point when I started this post...oh well fuck it. AC2 looks great and will do well on it's own. At least they allow the ALT TAB.
