Specifically, I'm trying to determine the feasibility of a contest thread in the future, but it will largely depend on the number of digital cameras in the crowd. If not enough people have/have access to them, then the contest isn't fair/realistic.

Funny you asked this, I just bought a Sony DSC-P72 a few hours ago from Best buy.
$299 3.2 megapixels, 3x optical zoom, 16m memory stick (I've got some points to spend on a credit card so I can get 128m memory stick free, I just have to order it now)

We've been meaning to but we still haven't gotten around to getting a digital yet. Maybe before we go on a vacation, so sometime in 2005 is the target

I've had an Olympus C-2500L digital for several years. While only 2.5 MP, it was one of the first high-end amateur SLRs. Been quite happy with the performance and maybe in two years when I'm not a starving college student anymore I can afford an upgrade!

Kodak DC290.. not quite as spiffy as the ones being released now, but good enough that I've had no reason to get a newer one.
Love it..

I have a
Canon PowerShot S230 with 256 mb flash card. I hadn't ever owned a camera before, and bought this on a whim about six months ago. It's great, I usually just toss it in my pocket before I go out to do something, and now I'm a regular shutterbug.
I wish the optical zoom were a little better on it, but I can't really expect a whole lot better on a camera that is smaller than a pack of smokes. You can also take short video clips with audio with it, I'd definitely recommend this camera if anyone is looking for a digital.
