Lords of Everquest

Post by Rivera Bladestrike »

Anyone look at this game? I saw the site and signed up for beta... Looks pretty good graphically and I really like the whole level system, I've always wanted to make veterans with a real-time strategy game. I remember I used to take Terran Marines in Starcraft and run them into death runs, whatever came out alive with 5 or more kills I used to heal and save

Anyway, looked interesting, has anyone heard about it or gotten into beta?

What can this game be compared to? Is this just Sony attempting to jump into Blizzard's venue because Blizzard is jumping into Sony's? Is this an online game or something you can play like Age of Empires or Warcraft with the option of playing online?

Actually it looks cool and they have some good ideas in there.

What i wonder is if its smooth gameplay.

If it is then it will probably be a good game! :)

It looks like a warcraft 3 / AoE realtime strategy game... But I like the idea of the leveling up a lot... adds depth.

How are they going to incorporate Camping in a RTS? Does this mean there are going to be marathon games of 20 hours in order for your unit to get a piece of gear so that you can attack the bad guys?

In Warcraft 3 you have Creeps. Maybe they'll put in quests by killing Creeps for items and taking those items to other creeps ^.^ And they'll all have Ph's and be on 19 minute spawn timers. So you don't always get your epic or quest item (Like me camping this f'ing cleric epic piece in sol a and 17 ph's later still no Lord Grimblox. Boy, that would kill the game for me)

I love RTS games and I love EQ, but somehow this game misses the mark completely for me. I can't really put my finger on it, but I have absolutely no interest in playing this game. It's the same thing with EQ 2. I'm not even curious.

I played the game a few times at GenCon in the SOE area. It's pretty cool. I'd liken it to Warcraft 3 with an EQ "skin". On one mission I was cranking out Iksar Monks and DE Rogues - kind of cool. If memory serves there was even a DING! when the Lord (equivilent to a WC3 Hero) levels up.

Applied for the Beta - hope I get in so I can try out some multiplayer (the real strength and staying power of any RTS) as well as take some more time to look at other aspects of gameplay and content.

I just installed this and played the tutorial.

I liked this game better when it was called Warcraft 3.

I was gonna post this very same thread about a month(?) ago when the demo came out. I installed it, played it for about 10 minutes (through the tutorial), and uninstalled it. I already own Warcraft 3 and didn't even play it much so I already know there's nothing in LoEQ that'll really hold my interest (even if it is based on EQ). Levelling characters? Level schmevel. Can you fucking 2-box power-level your character? Can you get steamrolled by Pravus Tomb? No? I guess there might be some good points to it after all....

I didn't post about it because I figured someone might have already :P

I need to check and see what phase of beta it is in and if there is an NDA. If there isn't I'll post more thoughts. =D

Oh okay, I thought they were further along than that. I'll keep my mouth shut then for now and see what they do with it.

I just want single player implemented. I don't see that happening for quite a long time though.

I got the beta acceptance letter yesterday but haven't done anything yet. 100K PP for my beta infoz!

Keep this on the low down...the down low...no doubt!

I'll take a look this weekend but to be honest, I made it about halfway through the Warcraft 3 tutorial and that was it so I'm not sure this will fair well with me!

Lords of Everquest is still a shitty Warcraft3 clone, which was a shitty clone of a fun game.

call me crazy...but how could you call warcraft 3 a clone of warcraft 2...

it's the next game in a series, so of course it has the same general gameplay, races, story, etc...just more developed and executed on a bigger scale

I mean if that's the case...then warcraft 2 is a clone of warcraft

Warcraft 2 is in many ways a clone of Warcraft. Clone isn't really the way I'd describe it. I'd say, 'evolutionary within the genre'... just my humble opinion.

At any rate, the reason it was a quote is because I didn't say it, I just happen to completely agree with it. I have no interest in a WC2 or WC3 clone, especially not if it's based on Everquest and try as I might, I just couldn't enjoy WC3.

The use of a quotation was to differentiate between Aruinil's original comments and those he was borrowing from an external source; I would consider this to be a good habit of his.

Calling WC3, a WC2 clone is a poor choice of words. As this game is the next in the series it can't really be a clone unless the team for WC3 was conciously trying to reverse engineer the WC2 code line and doing a piss poor job (because they didn't manage to dupe it closely) ;)

It would be more accurate to say the game didn't not evolve the genre in as substantial or meaningful way the earlier incarnations of the series.

*shrug* I am happy to have a game that is by and large familiar to an older game that I enjoyed, but with a few new extras and some pretty shiny new graphics. It allows me to have a "new" experience with a game that I enjoyed in the past. By keeping the game experience largely intact Blizzard didn't screw up anything that wasn't broken!

I have nothing of interest to say about Lords of Everquest and no interest in learning anything about it. :)

Of course I agree with it. The quote is from a prominent gaming website. I quoted it to simply reflect that I didn't say it myself.

The overwhelming reponse during Fan Faire was positive. I have to say that I am now looking forward to playing this at home.

Btw, I think WC3 is much more StarCraft than WarCraft 2. Having said that, LoE definately has a different overall feel than WC3, but the graphics are so similar that it's a bit distracting.

LoE definately stands on it's own 2 feet.

TA was great, but it had too many clone units on each side. It was still a great step forward for the genre.

StarCraft was not a clone of TA :P

I don't really think that is true. Starcraft came years after WC2 and made some pretty big steps in that genre. Some of which even WC3 never used. The one thing I would change about WC3 is to up the limit on food and being able to create bigger platoons instead of 12.

Been in beta for a couple of weeks, actually enjoying it... but I've always like RTS games. Played a BUNCH of games against the comp but always seen to find the morons when I'm playing against/with others. Anyone else in Beta and if so what ID are you using so I can look you up or if you want to msg me I'm Marbus.

Cheers!

First impression: Warcraft 3 with viable hero classes.

I see a lot of potential with this game. Specifically in the special abilities of each of the heros. In an attempt to be as specifically vague as possible, I really see this game becoming the next huge Starcraft-like game, inasmuch as the expectation to see 50,000 or more players on at a time is completely reasonable.

I enjoy that my time spent in EQ has given me a bit of a hands up, in that I pretty much know what the effects do and how to form my "raid parties" to be as effective as possible. I suppose that with enough practice, this game will come down to your ability to truly strategize, rather than just zerg force your way into having the biggest zergling rush or zealot defense.

While I see some difficulties in the game, specifically, only being able to control 12 people at a time, there is more than enough potential with this game to get beyond that.

I just got in the beta last night.

Since I was never really a fan of any Blizzard(Sp?) online games thanks to the idiots who infest Diablo online, I was skeptical about this apparent WC3 clone.

But this game is actually, really fun.

Anyways, I was wondering if this game would have a single player story line too?
