Sound issue

I've had this problem with my sound for awhile. It's hard to explain, but let me try. I'll use in NWN as an example. If I rotate around my character while, say, an NPC is giving some speech, from one angle the sound will almost completely cut out, it's very muffled. It's not limited to just NWN tho. The windows startup noise, part of it practically cuts out. I run my sounds through my stereo, so it could be a bad connection there, but just wondering if anyone has any other ideas.
