Who has seen this show in the past? Was this just a matter of time before this happened or just a freak thing?A white tiger mauled superstar illusionist Roy Horn during a Friday night performance of Siegfried & Roy at The Mirage, severely injuring the Strip performer.
Horn, who turned 59 on Friday, got out of surgery shortly after 11:30 p.m. He was in critical condition at University Medical Center after suffering severe blood loss from a bite wound to the left side of his neck.
Happy Birthday, Roy

Too often it seems it is the peaceful and innocent who are slaughtered. In this a lesson may be found that it may not be prudential to be either too peaceful or too innocent. One does not survive with wolves by becoming a sheep.

My sister lived with a tiger trainer for about 5 years. I got the impression no matter how they're raised you still have to treat them with total respect because they can switch into feral behaviouor mode very easily if provoked.
He'd had a couple of scares with his tigress even though he'd raised her from a baby. Feeding time and whenever they're exposed to unfamiliar situations are the riskiest I think.
I'd imagine the cat involved in this incident had probably done the same routine over and over so I don't know what might have caused this. But I bet he knew there was a problem. It's just unfortunate that by the time you can see the signs of an angry tiger it's too late to do much about it.

Doubtful..."reality tv" in the US isn't limited to things like The Bachelor, Survivor, etc. "Shock" tv as some have called it would have probably numbed most of the crowd. Some might have even thought it was part of the show.
I always just thought it was a matter of time before it happened. I don't care if you breast-fed them yourself, a Tiger is a Tiger.

I told that exact same line to my wife after I heard what happened.
Too bad this fucker didn't suffer the same thing:

on Yahoo news it said that they told the audience it was the tiger's first show although in reality it wasn't, god knows why they would tell people that, to bring more ooh's and ahh's and applause I guess?
in other news when I was about 9-10 I saw an accident like that in a circus, lion "slapped" his trainer upside the head, guy bloody with face and neck torn open landed in hospital. Animals like people can have moods, unfortunately sometimes people don't respect those bad moods and leave the animal alone for the day

Well when someone gets on your nerves, you can push their shoulder in a nonchalant way and tell them to leave you alone. A tiger's equivelant shoulder push would not phase another tiger, but can be fatal to fragile humans. That's why it's silly to try and raise them. They can get pissed and have mood swings just like you or I, but they don't really have anything stopping them from giving the aggressor a small slap, so to speak, when they are offended or ticked off. The slap for us is fatal, and probably leaves the tiger saying "wtf, his arm came off, oh well, nap time".

Go rent Faces of Death. This guy raised a tiger from birth. Was playing with and petting it, then sat on the ground to do a live interview to the camera. Tiger Rests its chin on the guys shoulder, then decides he wants to bite it, then his arm came off at the shoulder, but not before the skin stretched about 3 feet before finally ripping off. Then the tiger just layed down casually.
One reason why is because the guy put himself in a "being submissive" position. Once you go down to eye to eye, or lower it shows you are no longer the "Main Man" of the family.Once that happens, and if its a male, 9 times out of 10, itll try to assurt itself as the dom. of the two. And chances are youre gonna get fucked up.
