Rush Limbaugh resigns

Post by Kilmoll the Sexy »

He was definitely entertaining on the ESPN show and raised their viewing audience by something like 26%. What I find appalling is the absolute hypocrisy from the NFL and the media where a benign statement such as he made can cause the uproar that it did....in the same league where you have a team named after a derogatory term for American Indians. Why is racism only racism if it has to do with African Americans? I swear to Christ that if I had the cash for good lawyers right now, I would sue the Washington franchise to have that name changed just on principle.

I believe ESPN's parent company is Disney...so...statements like those will always get you on the plank, so to speak.

I feel bad for Limbaugh, he wanted very badly to be a part of the sports media. He's been trying to get an announcer job for years.

Now that he gets his foot in the door, he blows his chance.

A shame.

He makes his living being a loudmouth ignoramous and, essentially, a total shill for the republicans. I'm more surprised that it took this long.

What's funny is that he has always thought he was holier than thou. I love it that he is being investigated for illegally obtaining Oxycontin, which is practically heroin if chewed.

yeah, i havent watched one episode with this shitbag this year.

ABC knew this was going to happen when they hired him, and honestly it is what they wanted. They just didnt want the controversy to be about race. but they did want him to say outrageous things.

like many things, Limbaugh tries to pass off other peoples' ideas as his own. Len Pascquerilli (sp) had written this same criticism about McNabb about 2 weeks earlier in a natinoally syndicated column.

i dont think that the comment he made warrented him being fired, and i dont think Disney fired him. But he simply is not a fit for that show.

Rush Limbaugh is never going to fit in a television show that is intended for a broad viewing audience.

There is a sports talk station here in Atlanta (a city that is 55% black in the city limits) that has a show hosted by 2 brothers who are 'brothers' from 12-3pm. Anyway, their take on it was interesting. They were like "i'm not really outraged, but its 2003. But considering who this guy is, nobody should be surprised."

It was not a racist statement. It's no different than boxing fans and commentators calling a white guy a great white hope, or great white hype. White guys pulling for a white champ because it's so rare. White guys pulling for a good black QB cause it's so rare. He was calling Mcnabb a great black hype instead of a great white hype that the world seems to have no problem with people saying. But what does that cracker know about football anyway.

Say what you awnt about Limbaugh, but the reason that he is so popular is that he is smart as hell. He is more prepared and does more reseaarch than anyone on TV or radio. He is not blindly republican like some other radio hosts and will blast the republican party when they do something stupid. He is satunchly conservative which usually coincides with Republican thought, but he has never been a still of the republican party. His radio show in entertaining and logical. He does not sit up there and simply yell about the left wing, he backs everything he says up with a pile of proof and when he offers opinion, he makes it very clear that it is exactly that, opinion.

The statement he made was not that bad, but you just can't do it. He should have known that this would blow up and while I do not think the comment was especially out of line, he should have known this was going to happen.

I wrote him off after I finished his Best Selling book back in the early 90s. Sure he had a few good points but always "fell off the right side" as I like to say.

He basically said in so many words that McNabb wasn't a very good quarterback, but he is getting all sorts of media attention because he is black. That is a racist statement. It's also false since he seems to be a pretty fucking good quarterback.

Even if it wasn't a racist statement I wouldn't be put off if he was fired, because we all know he's a racist anyway. Firing Rush Limbaugh for being a racist windbag is like firing Darth Vader for being mean to someone. Even if he didn't say anything racist I would still fire him for being a racist.

I think it's funny when these conservative mouthpieces get a job outside their element (complaining about affirmative action and blaming everything on Clinton) and always last like two weeks before opening their fucking pie holes and blurting something racist/sexist/homophobic and getting fired. They can't even exist outside their boxes of unrealities they've built up around themselves and have no idea how the world actually works.

I really have no problems with the statement he made except to that it was totally untrue. McNabb is one of the best quarterbacks in the league. The dude broke his ankle and finished the game last year, amongst other things like leading his team to the playoffs for however many years.

I watch that NFL show every week. I liked it much better last year when they had sterling sharpe instead of michael irvin. I thought Rush has made some good points on the show but sometimes he says the most ludicrous stuff and you can't help but think this guy doesn't know shit about pro football. There was definitely a lot of tension between him and the other announcers. 3 of those guys played in the NFL for a number of years and he would talk to them like he knew more about the game than they did. Got under my skin.

No he hit it dead on saying he wasnt AS good as a quaterback as the media was showing him out to be. The past 2 years, his teams main highlight was the defense. But he got all the credit.

What he said was no where near racist. As for this one..

in the same league where you have a team named after a derogatory term for American Indians.
Cry a river k?
The Washington franchise originally was located in Boston and was called the Braves until it was purchased by George Preston Marshall in 1932. He changed the name to the Boston Redskins in honor of the team's head coach, William "Lone Star" Dietz, who was an American Indian. The team moved to Washington in 1937 and was renamed the Washington Redskins
Holy shit. You mean some people dont have such a thin skin and dont cry about something that isnt ment in a bad way? To each his own. Some people dont see anything wrong, including thoese of the Indian decent, some do. Hell when my fathers family came over from France, and raped the Indian women, Im a off product of it, and I dont find it in bad taste.

Hasn't it always been the case that QBs get way more credit then they deserve when their team is winning and way more of the blame when they are losing? I mean hell there are hall of fame QBs who are there because of their running back and defense, yet McNabb is singled out by Limbaugh because he's black.

Jake Plummer has been hyped since he came into the league, and hasn't done nearly as well as McNabb. Oh and how about Brian Griese?

It is rare that the best QB's really get hyped these days.

Gannon has never gotten the credit he deserved for the last 3 years.

Garcia has been a hell of a player.

Steve McNair is 4 times the QB McNabb is in my opinion, tough as nails, can run and throw.

Even Drew Bledsoe has had a couple stellar years

I would think that if it were false, he would have put out a strong statement at this point in standard Rush fashion. Only thing he has said so far is "I don't know of any investigation". Not too convincing to me. he had a guest speaker on his show yesterday, I really wanted to hear what he had to say about his housekeepers allegations. Will tune in today.

Coming out of college no, but after one or two good season he was ranked amoung the top QBs in the league. Hell I remember playing FF and seeing Griese get picked over Manning and Warner a few years ago. Right now the situation down in Miami is a little messed up because of his dad, but from everything I've read they are pretty much pushing him to surplant Fielder at the starting QB spot.

I guess if I had never seen football or understood it at all then yes it would sum up the situation quite nicely. Unfortunately I do watch football and have followed it (H.S. football, College and Pros) since I was around 6 or 7 years old. So I tend to understand that while stats are nice and entertaining that football goes beyond that.

First let’s look at the running back both QBs have played with. McNabb has had Duece Staley for his career, a running back who has average 3.9 yards per carry for his career and who is now in a running back by committee situation. Johnson had Robert Smith in Minnesota and Stephen Davis in Washington, both of whom I would take in a heart beat over Staley. Now you may argue that he has crap running backs in Tampa and I would agree, however, he also has Jeff Gurdon who in my opinion is an offensive genius. He has taken average QBs and turned them into stars for his whole career. Don't believe me look at what he did in all the places he was at. link

Now look at the quality of receivers each has had. McNabb has had James Thrash and Todd Pinkston for his career. Now compare that with Chris Carter and Randy Moss in Minnesota, Bryant Westbrook in Washington and Keyshan Johnson in Tampa Bay. Thrash and Pinkston have had a combined 0 seasons with over 1000 yards receiving, Westbrook alone, who was the worst of the bunch that played with Johnson, had more than that.

Now as to the point that the columnist decided to twist around that McNabb gets sacked more than Johnson. Yes part of it is that McNabb runs more than Johnson. Another part is that for as long as I can remember, Philadelphia has had a really bad offensive line, I watch the NFC East a lot because that's where the Cowboys play so I've gotten to see my share of Eagles and Redskin games and I can guarantee you that Johnson played with much better offensive lines than McNabb.

The difference between McNabb and Johnson is that McNabb makes the players around him better because of his talent, Johnson is made better by the talent around him.
