Gun enthusiasts? (of all kinds)

Post by Searyx »

Paintball? BB? Pellet? 22? 45? Shotgun? Hunting?

How many of you enjoy a good gun?

I'm a bb gun guy myself. Low maintenance, no cirtificates needed, and a nice feeling of power as you blow apart Coke cans :)

Oh yeah. If you want to brag about what you own with links and stuff, go right ahead.

I dig guns :) I really miss hunting though...living in LA totally sucks. CA is so lame with gun laws and it is way too expensive.. oh well, I need to get my ass out to TX or something for some quality hunting :) Here are the guns that I own:

Smith & Wesson Model 1000 20-guage semi-auto shotgun
Smith & Wesson Model 1006 10mm semi-auto pistola

*EDIT*

Pistols are generally more accepted in most areas and are able to be carried if you have a concealed carry permit.
My pistol of preferance is a Compact Glock 22 9mm.
Mainly because its a powerful 9mm and is lightweight and glock always makes good hardware. =)

My father has three shotguns (2 Remingtons 12guage, 1 Winchester 20guage) one rifle (not sure what brand) and some handguns (he never showed them to me). He took me to gun shows and shooting ranges when I was 11 and went hunting once. It was a bit boring back then and shooting a firearm with no ear protection was no fun either :D

One time my father's rifle scope was badly aligned that when I aimed for the center of the paper target I was actually hitting the lower-right section  But one of the instructors gave me praise for my shooting pattern. That's something I can live with...

I don't think I could list them all here, but the ones most near and dear to me are my Springfield .45 1911, the 870 12 ga Remington magnum, and my S&W .357 Combat Masterpiece in stainless.

Couldn't say I have a true favorite and any weapon would be better than others in certain situations. If I had to pick only one to keep with me if something tragic was going on, it would be the .357. You do not want to be on the wrong end of that weapon.

I bought an unregistered snub nose .357 smith & wesson 2 weekends ago at the dallas gun show. Have 2 winchester shotguns as well...12 and 20 guage. I like shotguns to play with in the country. 357 is for home protection or entertainment on drinking binges.

Well ok- I have an air rifle, air pistol and a selection of low power bb guns, a crossbow, and theoretically a marlin-glendfield model 60 .22 (if the bloody storage company could ever find the wretched thing).

If I were to go shopping I'd think about a full-auto bb gun (you see them at fairgrounds sometimes, and its just fun spraying bb's at 1500 rpm, even if they do only go about 100 feet! :P ), a .445 revolver with hotloads (Yes, they do exist. Someone obviously saw Dirty Harry and wanted to go one better.), and an USAS with a 50 round drum magazine (Full autofire shotgun). And yes, I spent way too much time playing cyberpunk when I was younger, for the last two... :P Vega and Lucas "Shotgun" Mcguire say hi... :)

Personally I'm partial to shotguns and sub-machine guns.

Gatlings guns are my personal fav.. I'd like to refer to them as the ultimate home defense weapon.

I was an expert marksman when I was in the service. In fact, everyone from Wisconsin in our training group got marksman. I was told that if I hadn't already had a job doing what I was doing they would have had me up on a roof someplace. Ironicly I was on my way to the Gulf to do just that before they called off the war.

I don't like weapons. Personally, I like targets. Whatever I have handy to hit a target, a shoe, bottle cap, pencil or what have you, will do just fine. I am not a deer hunter either. I have gone out with paint guns to mark deer with orange paint when I was younger. Now I just do all my shooting on the computer. Too much history has to be resolved before I pick up another weapon and aim it at another person. Some of you will know what I mean.

I can see how some might not understand the american (and often canadians too) facination with guns. I guess you need to go breeze through a few boxes of shells to understand. In other words they're quite fun. I don't kill any animals, but no skeet is safe around us--beer bottles count as skeet.

Before I joined the military, I really didnt think too much about guns. After hanging out with da boys, and getting to play with some weapons. Its pretty intresting.

One I really enjoy the most is the M-14. Smaller and feels more powerful than the M-16. First shot one up on my cousin's ranch, was really impressed. Can I count AT-4's in this? Nothing like shooting a 20,000 dollar missle at a set up tank and seeing it explode.

I'm a huge outdoorsman and hunter - have been since i was 12, (good 13 years ago now). Following is what i have so far (voted rifles, just because that's what i prefer for any big game hunting).

.356 Winchester Model 94 (some of the most beautiful wood i've ever seen in a gun stock)
30-30 Marlin (Winchester immitation)
Mossberg 500 20 Gauge Pump Shotgun
Little mini 22 pump (first gun).

Only own one gun, will never get rid of it, and will never purchase another. I personally don't see OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS, if any need for one, but mine was a handed down family gift.

My grandfather gave it my father on his 16th, and my father gave it to me on mine.

It's a Marlin 22 bolt action w/ scope.

Though they both do, I don't hunt, doubt I ever will. I do enjoy taking it out to my grandfather's ranch, lining up some targets and shooting them however. I guess it's just because I'm a meticulous bastard, and I like trying to better my aim.

We have a marlin bolt action .22 that stays out at our family ranch...frightening how accurate it is. No scope on the gun, but the factory sights work with almost pinpoint precision.

K some imput, looking for constructive arguments, not flames, i wanna talk about this some :) ...

Only gun i have in my house is a pistol from the revolutionary war period thats been past down for ages. It doesnt work but its a neat thing to have. I would never want a working gun in my home unless we were being invaded by canada or something  Things like antique guns that u cant buy ammo for or that are disabled are cool collectables, i just would never want something meant to kill someone in my home, especially when i have kids around.

Dont understand the point of having automatic(semi too) for personal use. Its not for hunting and not for personal protection its just an added danger around....As for hunting, it seems altogether silly to me nowadays. Noone(ok some tiny percentage of americans) lives off shit they hunt these days, its farm raised meat that we eat, seems a little fooked up that its ok to go kill a living creature for the fun of it. Though it has its been a past time for centuries, and up till one point hunting was how most people survived, i think it should be much more strict or be illegal...

The most valid(imo) pro-gun argument is that if we cracked down on guns and made it illegal, people will still have em, and more likely the people with them are going to be 'bad' people :P. I believe, like a drug war a gun war would be no different, it really doesnt help much but rather makes the conditions in which the guns are used more dangerous, etc...

People who like guns. Why do like them so much? What is your reason for owning one, etc? Other than 'the right to bear arms' in the constitution why do you think they are ok to have?

Although I don't own any guns I have been to many shooting ranges.

My personal favorite is the 50 cal. Desert Eagle. Shit this thing is insane. Anyone else ever fired one. It makes a Magnum look like Searyx's BB gun.

Glocks are a nice light weight easy to handle gun. I also liked the Beretta.

I would never own a gun but I do enjoy going to the range and firing off a few rounds.

Oh I have also fired an RPG and an 80 cal machine gun in China. These guys have the right idea they get rid of old ordinance by letting people come onto their military bases and paying to shoot the old shit off.

Did it once, not too expensive. Wouldn't do it again. After I did it I thought ya how safe is this shit anyway?

I have never shot the DE 50 cal. It is not on the CA list so I cannot legally purchase on in the state. The DE .44, .357 are on the list however. I picked one up and realized how gigantic the frame is. You need LARGE hands to wield this hunk of metal. My S&W 10mm is more than enough firepower for me and it has a fairly large frame(NOTE: 10mm is basically a .40 CAL on crack or a .41 Magnum.)

I am thinking of buying a S&W .45 polymer just for shits and giggles.

Go with a Plastic glock 9 all the way :) those things are dangerously cool. I have fired a few guns, my father has a 9 mm beretta and a 380. I also had the privelage to shoot my friends ak-47(which has the pin filed down) at osama bin laden targets at a shooting range. As far as what I own, only paintball guns, but god damn can you have fun with those. Ultimate for home defense.. not sure of the name, but the new machine guns the millitary is developing that are big square ( tank mounted, or ground planted guns i believe) things that have anywhere from like 50 to a couple hundred different barrells that bullets simultaneously come out of.. I saw a show on those things.. and I want one.

You people really shouldnt classify it as obsessions with guns, cause its not an obsession. People hunt, go shooting or just like having some measure of personal safety.
I myself, i hate hunting, I can't do it. I tried when I was younger and just couldn't pull the trigger and kill "bambi". But, I do like to shoot guns, I'm not a bad marksmen and I like to just like to shoot.
But refering to anyone that carries guns as a hick or redneck or using the hillbilly stereotype really does a disservice to many people as well as insults them. Hell I'm 25 and I live in Tennessee and I have 2 pistols, SHIT I must be a redneck.....the answer to that is negative...because I collect swords does that mean i'm a sword-wielding wildman dungeons and dragons pyschotic basement living freak (no hehe)? Or if i collect anime does that mean Im Japanese or have a fetish for large breasted small waisted, large eyed - super hyper active quasi-teen girls? (well maybe....ahem anyway)? hrm....stereotypes are so confusing =(.
anyway....
As far as owning a fully automatic, for gun-collectors those are usually a must have cause well, everyone wants to be Rambo.
But anyway hi, guns are cool...

For every story of how some redneck accisentally shot his sister's husband's pecker off while cleaning his gun, there are 2 cases of someone using a firearm to protect themselves. Quite often, it is mereley the presence of the weapon that will prevent a crime from happening and no need to actually fire it.

You see, criminals are weak little pissants and generally will only prey on someone weaker than they are. When you even the odds up or put them in your favor, they take to getting the hell out. Maybe someday somethign bad will happen to one of your family members that would have been prevented had you or they been armed legally. Then maybe you will understand this.

As for the DE .50, I am not a huge fan of the DE. I have shot pretty much all of the guns made by them and am not really thrilled with them. They are mostly for the little gangster wanna-bes who think they are cool. Your first problem if you would ever use a gun like that would be the fact that you would be nearly deafened after the first shot that you fired in any practical use. Second, if you fired it at night you would only get to fire it once, as you would be blinded by the muzzle flash on that weapon.

In all seriousness, you are much better off with a smaller weapon for home defense. I would suggest something along the lines of a .32 , .38, .40 ,or possibly .45 loaded with Glaser safety slugs. These are basically a plastic shell filled with shot. If you miss, it hits a wall and all the energy dissipates into the wall and does not continue through to hit an innocent. 9mm are the suck for home protection. The bullet fropm a 9mm travles at too high a speed and will generally go straight through without exapnding. In a nutshell, they have zero stoppping power. This is why most police forces are abandoning them in favor of the .40 S&W.

Owned a .357 Desert Eagle, real sweet weapon but heavy as hell and in Germany where I bought it I couldnt get ammo strong enough to kick the slide back to chamber another round... kept getting the shell casing stuckin the ejection port. Also had a S&W .44 with the 8" barrel, Yes it was because of dirty Harry and I was 19 at the time (had a 21 year old army buddy buy it for me :P ) That was also a fun weapon to go shooting with, for Skeet i has a Stevens Savage 16 Guage double barrell Shotgun. Any one here ever shoot Sporting Clays?

Once is all you would need with this gun! Besides you would blind your target too.

I do agree it is deafening and the muzzle flash is about 18 inches. I like the gun for the end result not the ease of use or anything else for that matter. I guess the biggest drawback asides from the points Kilmoll mentioned is the kick this gun gives. You fire once and it takes you much longer to get back on target if you can even see it.

Well... you HAD to have known I was gonna comment on this...

In South Dakota it's kinda fucked up because out here where you HAVE NO NEED for a concealed weapon, you can have one. In DC where you practically need body armor, you must go unarmed or break the law.

In SD we have a "Shall Issue" concealed pistol permit law which simply means that ANYONE that applies WILL be issued a permit provided they PASS the background check. $12.00 for 8 years HAHAHAHAHA.

Currently I own just a few firearms. The most I have ever owned at ONE time is 12. When I discovered the simple joy of placing as many bullets as possible into the smallest area possible, I became "an avid target shooter". I started buying, selling, trading handguns on almost a weekly basis - just to try something different.

VALUABLE LESSON ---------> Gun owners pay more than pawn shops. GOOD deals to be had at a gun range! You can buy/sell guns on the side and make some L33T LEWT ! That is how I acquired my collection... one at a time.

I have learned that revolvers suck ass. Semi auto's are for me.

First? Russian Makarov (9mm mak) and I still have it.
Most favorite? Para Ordinance P16.40 or P12.45

I also have about 8,000 rounds of 7.62 X 39 STEEL CORE ammo that was legally sold before the ATF realized what they had allowed loose in the USA. BOY did they scramble to stop sales of that shit.... I got mine before they "officially" halted sales hehehehe and NO it ain't for sale.

I don't have anything against guns. I grew up in a hunting family. Working around a farm, a gun of some type is pretty much mandatory for butchering, varmit control, etc.

But I can't shoot one worth a damn. Never have been able to. When my brother, father and I used to squirrel hunt together, I got the shotgun. My job was to knock the squirrel out of the tree by blowing limbs to bits. They got the kill shots with .22's.

So I stick to bows. I had a great time with an ex chief of police. He was amused that I couldn't hit crap with a pistol. So I challenged him to a round of stills, his Beretta vs. my longbow. He bought lunch that day.

So I carve a lil wood, pull on a string or two and enjoy the peace and quiet. Guns I leave to those who have some idea how to make em perform.
