Heil-Smith had been on the phone at the time with her friend, Debby Nelson. The phone was knocked out of her hand during the attack. But instead of yelling for help, Heil-Smith was yelling, "It's only a bear" to avoid scaring her friend."

I didn't want her to think it was a man with a gun or anything," Heil-Smith joked.

"She's pretty tough," Scott Smith said of his wife. "It was one mother against another. I wasn't here when it happened, but I could see the results when I got home."

After the bear left with its cub, Heil-Smith found the phone and dialed 911. When paramedics arrived, they found her cleaning blood off the floor.

Wow, that's impressive. I'd like to say that I would have acted similarly but there's a fairly good chance I would have wet myself and then passed out from shock.

I could not help but think her husband is going to get ragged on, "How did she learn to handle a bear?" comments etc.

Not to mention she looks a little chubby, but not bad for a chick that fought a bear heh

She doesn't really look all that chubby.. she has a round face yeah, but rest looks normal.

she is chubby, you can tell by the width of her shoulders and how large the back of her arms are with no definition..

Who fucking cares if she's chubby or not? She's 37, married with kid(s), and fended off a bear that attacked her in her garage. Kudos to her.

Heh, reminds me of the time last year when a small black bear came into my backyard and tried to attack my mom. I left the Ssra raid and came out swinging my hockey stick and held a garbage can lid as a shield. Tw whacks in the head and it ran off.

The only casualties were that my mom had a scratched leg and I was a bit agitated(sp?).

Never said she was nasty, just chubby, she is obviously carrying an extra 25-45lbs.

Perhaps I am a little obsessed with weight, now that I discovered that people who are fat are that way because they are pathetic motherfuckers who are overconsuming in a world where people starve.
