Magician David Blaine Update...Anti-Americanism?

Post by Krimson Klaw »

http://www.channel4.com/entertainment/t ... index.html

He is suspended over a river from a crane in a glass/plastic box. His plan is to last 44 days with no food. What do you think of David, do you think he can do it, and do you think it's legit?

I have seen a few of his shows on tv and have been blown away, I came away thinking the guy was possessed by a demon or something his tricks were so good. Then fox aired a show that debunked every last one of his magic tricks, and I felt like I had just found my dad eating the Christmas cookies that I left out for santa. He's good.

Has anyone seen any live coverage of this stunt? He must have water, does he have any sort of supplements or vitamins or anything? And how big is the box, is it small like a coffin or is there room for him to move around?

Doesn't really seem like "magic" to me, but it would certainly test one's physical and mental endurance and wouldn't be an easy task.

Yea it's live, I provided the link so you could see the live feed. He has water too. He is a magician, but also does stunts of Endurance, this is not his first. Once he stood on like a 100 foot pole for 35 hours.

Ook.
Some shitty pictures of Farkers trying to illuminiate Blaine with laser pointers..

http://www.lindsey.jp/david/

...some guy arrested for trying to foul up Blaine's box... (with info from Blaine)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainmen ... 112430.stm

Basically, he's fucking nuts allready. Going into the box just confirms it.

If I remember correctly, he has a water line and a sewage line both running up to the box.. It looked to be about 8x5 or something in size.. I don't quite see what the point is, or what all the hooplah is about.

See my post on the Bacon thread about what we've been subjecting him to :)

Latest: flying a burger up there using a remote control helicopter lol.

Anyway I think it's bullshit and his self-serving publicity stunts are just old. If he went back to being an entertaining "street magician" I'd have more respect for him.

I also think it's funny that the Guinness Book of Records aren't interested as he's neither breaking records for fasting nor confinement in a small space. The vast majority of betting on this stunt in the UK expects him to fail, too.

Summary: Guy's an idiot and we should all ignore his stupid antics.

I think it is just silly. But the man is making money, and living large while dating plenty of hotties, so who I am to criticize.

He does some pretty cool shit, but this particular stunt is nothing more than an attention-getting activity.

I like his card tricks more than I like his endurance tests. I remember when conan o'brien "discovered" him doing tricks on the street in new york city. Some his stuff was totally insane and never really done before.

I'd rather work 40 hours a week for 6 months then spend 44 days in an 8x5 box without food.

He should have stuck to magic tricks, because that really doesn't seem interesting at all...

Anyone remember Blaine on South Park?

I can't speak for his other tricks, but this isn't a trick. It's putting himself in a box for 44 days. If he magically made a 6 foot sub appear in there with him, then I'd call it magic. Now it's just a hunger strike with no cause.

Update!
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dy ... ge=printer

There are even Web Sites devoted to concocting ways to annoy him, including shining laser lights in his eyes and tempting him with barbecue smells. One person was charged with criminal damage, accused of trying to cut off his water supply tube.
Anti-Americanism, this is getting good!
So far, Britons have taken great pleasure in tormenting Blaine. His cage has been whacked with golf balls fired from nearby Tower Bridge. Eggs were thrown, following by sausages and bacon. Women have shown him their breasts and men their bottoms.

I think the most amazing thing would be to go 44 days without rubbing one out. He would have to at least be waking up with raging morning wood. Luckily the british chicks are usualy so ugly they would squash most feelings of lust. Has anyone been able to see if there are large posters of the queen within his view?

That was one of my first thoughts as well. There's no better time to rub when out than when you're bored, and he must be bored as hell.

His levitation stunt is actually really easy for anyone to do heh.

Saw it on one of those spoiler shows, and if you really want to know how then let me know, but I warnyou, once you figure out how it's done you'll want to hit yourself for missing it.

I'll try to explain the levitiation trick. Basically stand with both feet together. You have to position yourself so that the audience is sort of at a 30% angle or so from you. All you do is completely lift the foot closest to the audience up while at the same time lift yourself on the front of your foot that is away from the audience. The front of your foot will be hidden by the foot and leg that you completely raised off the ground. When they show it on TV he actually does it twice. Once this way and the other using wires. He shows the audiences expression when he uses the wires as that has a much bigger effect because he gets a lot higher than when he does it without wires.

My favorite one has to be when he asks someone to pick a card and put it back in the deck. He then throws the entire deck at a window of a near by diner and the card the guy picked ends up stuck on the window....but on the OTHER side of the window :)

I saw the spoiler show you are all talking about and it showed virtually every single one of David's tricks. Interesting show. It was great seeing how simple his tricks really are. He uses quite a bit of "television magic" on his TV specials with clever editing. His card tricks, while great, are just tricks. It's hard to believe that some people put him on some sort of pedistal. He's simply doing what others have been doing for centuries.

They did not show how he made the card vanish from Emmet Smiths hand though. He placed a card in Emmets hand, told him to put his other hand over it. Then he waited a few seconds, then told him to remove his hand, and it was gone. How-in-the-hell-I-ax-ya.

During the summer I worked with this guy that was a 'magician'. His mentor was the exact same guy who taught David Blaine all his tricks. Every single one of his tricks are centuries old indeed. The reason he got so popular is because he is simply the first person to televise it.
